If you have an extra 3 Euros in your pocket in Bologna and want to push your fear of heights to the absolute extreme, then pop a couple of advil and get read to walk up 500+ narrow wooden stairs (and back down,) because the Torre degli Asinelli is what you've been waiting for.
You may walk around the tower a couple of times looking for the entrance in vain, but I promise you that it's there. You'll walk in maybe 10 steps, pay your 3 Euro, and then begin your long journey to the top. The stairs are wooden and well worn. After 5 or so flights, there's a platform. That's how it goes for about 5 platforms until you get to the top. Oh, and the stairs are barely wide enough for two people. And the traffic is both ways. And you can see down through the stairs at all times. Again, if you're scared of heights, this shit will get to you.
However, 500 stairs later, and you are greeted with the best views in Bologna. However, it will probably take you longer to get down than it did to get back up. And navigating past people is a little harder on the way down, especially when you get by a large group. Use with care, and YOLO your hardest. read more
