A friend of mine who has visited Houston years ago is still raving about the fries and burgers that he had at Tornado Burger. 7 years have passed and I finally got a chance to try Tornado Burger this past Sunday-how exciting! The restaurant is actually en route to my home from work but I just never felt like making a U-turn. Garlic Parmesan Fries was delicious, greasy but indeed delicious. It was a little scary when I found the last few pieces of fries drowned in oil on the bottom of the Styrofoam cup. Onion strings were alright; I'm a fan of onion strings and I sure have had better, crispier onion strings elsewhere. The hubby and I shared a 3-patty cheese burger and a Philly cheesesteak. We absolutely went overboard with triple meat and triple cheese. Phew, what a burger! The meat patties were juicy and flavorful but next time I would go for a double rather than a triple cheese burger. The philly cheesesteak was really good- moist and tender. Love it! One of the top 5 burgers in HTX, and a must-try for anyone that loves burgers and fries. We drive all the way from near downtown for these delicious delights. Plus you know, as very liberal and progressive people, it's important to see how the other half... I mean quarter... live, and how they eat. Git 'er done. So if they got bought up by a fast food chain, they'd be Tornado Merger. And if they were based in Pakistan, they'd be Tornado Urdu. And if they were located in Minnesota, they'd be Tornado Brrrrrrrrrr-ger. And if they were a kid in a high school Chemistry class, they'd be Tornado Bunsen Burner. And if they drink their sodas too fast, they'll be Tornado Burper. And if they haggle over their prices, they'll be Tornado Barter. Houston actually has some really good burgers, most of them located within the city limits, but there are exceptions to that rule. One of the very best (and best value) burger shops in Texas is down here in Sugar Land, on a road that most people don't venture onto unless you live around here, unassuming on the roadside with a messed up parking lot, serving some of the best burgers and tastiest fries in the entire state. We stopped into shoot the breeze and ended up in a Tornado. It was so good, it knocked the wind out of me. I got so full eating burger after burger I had to "gale" force the last few bites down. This place just stormed onto my top 5 burger list for Houston along with the likes of Lankford Grocery, Angie's, Tookie's, and so on. Even if my car gets towed away someday, I'll just cyclone down here and get a burger. Get it, cycle on. Never mind. Certainly our fave place for all American food in the Houston burbs, certainly one of the very best (and best value) things you can eat in the Sugar Land area. Yes of course it's a bit Republican (Texas can be that way) and service is no-nonsense, plenty of right wing propaganda on the walls, but that's Texas (half of it anyway), and we don't come here to practice politics, we come here for delicious food. We can't ignore a quarter of the country just because they pretend they're the majority, they have all the money (some of them, not most), because they are extremely nationalistic and so on. So my advice is to hurry-cane down to this place and let those burgers and fries and condiments rain down upon you so that you too can hail this place as one of the very best. And if they can't believe it's not butter, they'll be I Can't Believe It's Not Tornado Butter. And if they jump off a cliff on an elastic rope, they'll be Tornado Bungee. And if they ride on the dodgems at the fair, they'll be Tornado Bumper Car. And if they think Tinder is too crude (i.e. the girls are out of their league), they'll be Tornado Bumble. Decided to try them out as we were craving burgers and the reviews were really good. The place is in an olde restaurant building. Reminded me of an old Wendy's. You walk in and there's a counter were orders are placed. Hubs decided on #2, a double patty cheeseburger with fries and drink. He opted for one spicy patty and one regular. I went with a #1, cheeseburger, spicy with cheese fries and drink. And another regular patty cheeseburger. Spicy patty has onions and jalapeños mixed in the meat. The French fries portion are pretty generous. They are hand cut and delicious. Was a little disappointed as I did not realize that the cheese on French fries was the nacho type cheese. In my mind they were going to be sprinkled with similar cheddar cheese goodness as Beck's Prime. The burgers were fresh with fresh veggies. Smaller than expected though. The spicy patty is not overly spicy, however, it does carry a little delicious punch. The regular patty was okay. If we go back, the spicy will be my choice. I asked for mustard when I picked up our order at the counter and was told that it was .50 cents. I must have had a look on my face because the nice man stepped away and brought me 4 packets and didn't charge me. I only needed one packer. The food, at least the burger meals are very affordable. Don't let the ambiance fool you. Extremely laid back and that old-diner feel with friendly cashier at the front. You can see them cut potatoes to make their delicious fries - perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Philly cheesesteak is AMAZING. They have levels of spice and I'm so glad because this girl loves some spice! It was just the right amount where your mouth isn't on fire and you're running-to-the-bathroom-spice. Just enough to give it a kick. I love that it's shredded meat. Now now, I know some people love slices and others like shredded. I am one of those people who prefer the shredded pieces for Philly cheesesteak. Also, for $11 and how much food you get, it cannot be beat! It is out of my way but I am for sure to get it whenever I'm craving or in the area. I know my brother would have enjoyed their food as well. Tip: you order at the register, you go get your drinks and wait for them to call your name to pick up your food. Probably the best burger I've had all year. I'm actually a little mad about it. It was a simple smashburger with double patties and additional toppings thrown on. Two 3oz patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and mustard on a bun. Dassit. It had no business being that good. The fries were fantastic and undoubtedly hand cut and fresh. They give a buttload of fries which is cool because they're good even without ketchup. Kiddo got the loaded fries with parm garlic, cheese, mushrooms, and bacon. Loved it until nearly done and discovering nearly a half cup of oil in the bottom of the container. That's the only negative for me. They park everybody to get them out of the drive thru line but ask for your car make and color to bring your food out to you. It wasn't a long wait at all so that wasn't a problem for me. So went for an early dinner late lunch here on a Saturday. This place is a bit small and it was busy. They have a drive thru and when we pulled up the drive thru was very busy. They have a small parking lot and that was also busy. So the process here is you walk in place your order at the counter and pay. The signs on the way state that they start your order when you place your order. You find a place to sit and wait till they call out your number then you walk up and get your food. The place is small and it does get crowded. Now on to the food. The food was very tasty. The burger was nice and tasty and full of flavor. We also got fries and onion strings. The prices are fair and decent for the amount of food that you get. The problem I had was that the place is loud as it is small. Counter-service was efficient, but lacking personality. The restaurant itself was clean, and functional. Almost like the inside of an old tire repair shop. I had the double cheeseburger meal (including fries and small drink) which came to about $11. All in all, a decent price for a hearty burger and huge amount of hand cut fries. I just wasn't impressed however. The burger meat wasn't well-done and was slightly pink on the inside (a no-no in my book for any burger shop) and the toppings were pretty standard (onion, tomatoes, mayonnaise, mustard). I tend to like a dry burger and to then put toppings and sauce on myself, but I wanted to review the burger as it was made. Also, the patties seemed under-seasoned. Bland. The fries were good, but a little soggy--odd since I picked up my order immediately when my number was called (and the presumably hot-out-of-the oil fries). They should have been a lot more crisp. All in all, this is a decent place to eat, and a no-brainer if the option is between an $11 meal at Burger King or the same-priced meal here. Cheap, fast, and delicious! My son and I both got a regular cheeseburger (he got a double) combo. They were absolutely perfect. Not greasy and seasoned well without being too salty. The fries are the home style type, not the frozen kind from a bag. They were cooked perfectly, not overdone or soggy, and again not greasy. I got the onion straws and let me tell you, I was not prepared for how big an order it was! It was served in a VERY large cup and by myself I barely even scratched the surface. I cannot complain when $20 fills us both up with food as tasty as this. Just a note, they serve Pepsi products which my son was very happy with since Mug root beer is his fave. The service wasn't really all that welcoming I would say but that's alright, the food definitely makes up. Our son got the fully loaded double cheese burger wit' a few extras like bacon, grilled onions, etc., he had a burger bun blowout, an engineer would say he exceeded the weight capacity....he adapted and overcame the obstacle by using the original knife and fork combo....yup, his fingers and he didn't get any on the backseat. Along with Best Burger, this is one of the best places to grab a burger in Stafford. Considering the wealth of fast food options, a recently opened In N Out, a longtime highly successful Fuddruckers, and other local stops, that's really saying something. The burgers are thick, juicy, and delicious. The Philly Cheese Steaks are large and well stuffed. The frozen drinks are strong and served in surprisingly large containers. Their drive thru is pretty efficient, so even if there's a line you get in and out pretty quickly. The only two knocks on this place are that they don't take call-ahead orders, and their sides are kind of forgettable, but overall, they're a great place to grab a burger. read more

Service was terrible; got my to go order wrong. After paying I looked at my receipt and noticed that I was charged for pickles instead of bacon for my cheeseburger. Went back to the counter and paid extra to have it corrected. I got home and realized the order was missing French fries which I had paid for. Called the restaurant to complain and they couldn't identify my order from the order number on my receipt. After this frustration, I drove back to the restaurant and presented my receipt and they finally gave me my fries. I asked for some kind of compensation for the 30 mile drive to account for their error. Nothing was done, not even extra fries! The excuse was that the manager was not available. Very bad business practice. They have lost this customer over an error that could have been easily resolved by being sensitive to their customer and acknowledging their error..
