Don't tell the other meats this, but pork is my favorite, so I love bbq & have consumed plenty of it. Edley's & Martin's are 2 of the standards for bbq in Nashville. I'd make a return trip to Top Hog before I would either of the other places. Admittedly, that has more to do with my low opinion of them rather than any high esteem I have for TH, but you can take that for what it's worth. The food was good. On it's own meriting no better than 3 stars, but the portions were generous, the prices very reasonable, the staff very friendly & the place was flat hopping! So for the overall experience (as essential to me as the food) I gave it 4. Folks, these reviews aren't joking about this place being packed. We arrived before 6 on a Thursday night & it was SRO. My 10 y.o. moaned at the realization there'd be a wait (I make a point to have reservations wherever we as often as possible) but I used the opportunity to teach her if a restaurant is consistently packed that bodes well for the diner. One other important point. CASH or CHECK ONLY. Yes that is still a reality in places, especially rural TN. Of course, I use plastic for EVERYTHING & never carry cash, so was quite stunned when I went to pay & learned this reality. This is my favorite place for a greasy burger, and I mean that in a good way. Big, juicy, and cooked to perfection, this is where I come when I don't want fast food or something that tastes like it came from a chain restaurant. I've also tried the barbecue and it was excellent. Service isn't fast, and that's ok as that's not why I eat there. Staff is always friendly and attentive. One thing to keep in mind is they only take cash or check, no credit cards (that's how it's been when I go, I'm sure that will change at some point). read more

You are in the South, you gotta get BBQ. We had 2 tour busses filled with folks working the Luke Bryan Farm Tour. We were on a time constraint, so we turned to Yelp. Found a place not far from where we had to stop. Called in advance and talked to Ronda - she didn't know what to make of the call when we said we wanted to order enough ribs, chicken, pork and sides to feed 22 people, Well when we pulled up on a Wednesday night at almost 9pm, the place was packed, with more folks coming in to pick up food. The smell was exactly what a bbq pit should smell like. The team was so attentive, making sure that the right food was ready for the right bus. They loaded us up with sauce and utensils since we were taking to eat on the bus. The ribs literally fell off the bone tender, the pork was juicy and well prepared, and the chicken was smoky and moist. The sides - mac and cheese; beans; slaw; fries; and more were perfect. Although we thought we ordered a lot more than we needed - the food was so good that both busses ate every morsel. Another great choice thanks to my fellow Yelpers. We even met a guy in there who said the food was so good, he recommends to everyone, and if we didn't like it he would pay for our meal. Tempting but far too good to take him up on it. Definitely a good place to eat in Gallatin. We always are full when we leave here. Their chicken tenders never disappoint us a bit. Our dogs also love for us to bring them some of our leftovers. We've been eating here for years but I've never written a review. I like to try a place for a while to give a true objective opinion. Not true! But if that were the case then I'd have to say that Top Hog is consistently good. Don't go in thinking that this is a pretty, trendy burger cafe. It's not! It's a place where construction workers, bankers and senior adults eat good food. You get called "sweetie" and "darling" and "Hun". You drink sweet tea (that could rot your teeth) in big ole mason jars and you may just have to take a seat with people you may or may not know if you're in a hurry. There's no waiting area and it's crowded. Always crowded! But...if you're willing to overlook some imperfections you won't be disappointed. They have a small selection but have perfected it all. I have to say that some things aren't the best when compared to other places but I think all of Gallatin agrees that you can't find a better basic burger/cheeseburger or catfish. Don't worry about the location. You don't need a police escort as some would lead you to believe. It's safe and attracts a great mix of our community. They've managed to remain through many economic turns and that proves he's doing something right. Just an add-on..the guy helps his community. They're great people. Go support them. This has been one of my go to restaurants for a long time. But now they have totally lost my Friday afternoon trip for catfish, hamburgers or bbq. We arrived at 1:45 Friday afternoon and it was still about half full. And we were hungry. Ordered a hamburger and bbq sandwich both with onion rings. After waiting a long time, which has never happened, our food finally arrived. The burger was busted. Overcooked to the point that the meat was disintegrating and lukewarm at best. The first ring had a little heat but the rest, for both of us was, about room temp. And the the q. Squishy with a totally weird taste. We were in the restaurant for over an hour. How can that be? Our server after finishing came and ask us about the meal. We told her we were completely dissatisfied. Her response we could have fixed it. And, where were you? And they took our money.
