I absolutely love hardware stores and the Toom Baumarkt is about as good as it gets in Landstuhl. It's a huge store with pretty much everything one would need, including garden supplies and plants.
The first summer I lived in Germany was fairly hot and all of the stores in the area were out of fans, Toom included. I attributed that situation to poor buying, although to run out of fans in the summer is like running out of (sidewalk) salt in the winter. Oh, wait, they did... Again, poor planning. The following summer and winter the appropriate supplies were at good levels again.
They take credit cards and are good about returns.
once, I needed to buy a piece of wood and have it cut into three precise sizes and they did the cutting for free! the wood only cost a few Euro.
