This is your standard hardware store (think Lowe's or Home Depot). They have probably just about anything you can think of for your home improvement needs. This review is going to focus mostly on their customer service. My husband and I are still learning German (we can absolutely get by in German but we are still not super comfortable speaking the language). We were trying to get assistance the other day and approached an employee who happened to speak perfect English, we explained what we needed, he said he would get someone to help us. 10 minutes later no one had come by. So we asked another employee, and she brushed us off "I don't speak English." My husband stopped her and said (in German) "I speak a little German, please speak slowly" and he explained what we wanted to buy. She got super mad and (in rapid German) yelled at him about how she didn't have to help him and stormed off. Another employee happened to be coming by, my husband asked in German for what we needed and we finally got it. We shouldn't have had to go through all of that to buy some stupid Christmas lights. I get if you're having a bad day, but don't take it out on someone who is being nice and just asking for help. read more

I absolutely love hardware stores and the Toom Baumarkt is about as good as it gets in Landstuhl. It's a huge store with pretty much everything one would need, including garden supplies and plants. The first summer I lived in Germany was fairly hot and all of the stores in the area were out of fans, Toom included. I attributed that situation to poor buying, although to run out of fans in the summer is like running out of (sidewalk) salt in the winter. Oh, wait, they did... Again, poor planning. The following summer and winter the appropriate supplies were at good levels again. They take credit cards and are good about returns. once, I needed to buy a piece of wood and have it cut into three precise sizes and they did the cutting for free! the wood only cost a few Euro.
