Although I might be an outlier, this is worth sharing. My son is young and I have been looking to…read moreengage him in music immediately as activity centers began to open up. I wanted to secure private lessons and his school seemed perfect, offering 20 min privates. I was "yes'd" during the orientation process and explicitly said that I was not interested in anything zoom related or group. Simply targeting 20 min privates and happy to pay. My payment info was taken from me and we attended two group lessons after the main instructor conducted an evaluation on zoom (even though i was told this would be in person) and insisted that my son should be in group. Group was fine- we didn't get much out of this. Following Xmas break, i reviewed my banking statement and saw that i had 2 109 dollar charges in one month (we went to the school twice for 20 min group lessons). Solid mark up! I disputed the charges and had a conversation with the director of the school where she told me that i would not be charged until we re-review my son and find a private option that's not zoom. Since the school went to zoom lessons and because my son is young and won't get much from zoom sessions, we opted to wait out the "covid season." Just saw that I was charged 109 dollars again.. so that's $350 dollars for 2 20 min group music sessions. Lesson learned on my end.. pay as you go is the only option moving forward. I have since disputed all charges with my bank and will re-visit at home privates down the line. I am sure this is a wonderful school for kids who are older and engaged in music but my personal experience as a parent requesting a simple private and consistent unauthorized charges was not ideal .

We had tried Brookline Music School and another piano teacher recommended by Williams Piano Shop, but we were not happy with the approach. Montse came highly recommended by a friend as an excellent teacher, especially for beginners, children and adults. Montse teaches piano to my three children - aged 10, 8 and 4 - for almost one year. In addition to piano, Montse teaches them the European solfege methods for singing and pitch, syncopation etc. Within three months they were sightreading complicated chords. They play classical, but have now branched off into Hungarian folk songs and other fun areas. Most important, they look forward to the lessons and drive themselves to practice because she does a beautiful job of mapping music to their individual personalities and abilities. http://www.linkedin.com/in/montsepianolessons We can't recommend her highly enough." And if they don't stock something you need, they'll order it for you or point you in the right direction. Alan, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and helpful if I have questions or need advice. Whenever I have a problem with my kit or something breaks, I always go to Alan first (it's a good idea to call the store to see when he's working!) Often he'll find a way to fix it without having to purchase new parts. Definitely recommend this gem over bigger places like Guitar Center.

Ever since I heard the original Pirates of the Caribbean score, I wanted to learn how to play…read moreviolin. About 11 years later, I met Ariadna and finally began the journey. Ariadna made every session fun, which is one of the most important and less popular methods of teaching because it made me (and other students, I'm sure) want to practice at home more often. Ariadna is patient, encouraging, and extremely observational: She's able to explain the proper technique and form of holding a violin in a multitude of ways and her (optional) hands-on approach was key in teaching me to be able to RELAX my muscles. I wouldn't even know that I was tensing up, and Ariadna would tell me to relax from sometimes even half a room's length away. If I thought I was when I actually wasn't, she'd walk over and gently put her hands on my shoulders, and they would melt away from my ears without her even putting pressure on them. Ariadna's ability to notice the slightest bit of tension in her students' bodies is extremely helpful to minimize the risk of shoulder inflammation that can result from improper form. It's also helpful in teaching us to remember to let go of unnecessary tension, both in our bodies and in our minds. Ariadna makes every session comfortable, both in the sense of making sure my shoulders wouldn't tense up towards my ears (as they so often would) and also of providing a comfortable, safe space that enriches her students' learning capabilities. Ariadna brings calmness, understanding, and passion to everything that she does, and her genuine nature inspired me to practice more often than I otherwise would had if I had been paired with someone else. I highly recommend Ariadna as a musical teacher. Her interpersonal, musical, and encouragement skills are unparalleled. I haven't been the same person since we've met, in the most positive sense of the phrase.
