I've been coming to Tonella's for years. Always enjoy the food and service. Tonight was the worst customer service experience that I've ever seen in my life. Our waitress was very sweet and took great care of us. However there was another employee that was beyond rude!! She wouldn't give us her name but had dark straight hair. We we're still waiting on a to go order at 9:05 their hours are open til 9:00. She basically came over to us and said she had a life and had things to do. Mind you the rest of the staff was still cleaning up. I went up to ask for our to go order and ask her for a box for our dinner I tried to be nice. She basically cussed me out and began to yell about her personal life. I know it's hard to find help these days..... someone like this shouldn't be in the customer service industry!!! read more

The best pizza we've been able to find in the area after moving here from Cincinnati, OH (which has much better pizza places). Their cheese pizza needs extra cheese, otherwise it's a little thin. The more main courses we try, the more items we like. So far we've been really pleased with the quality and service. read more

I was surprised how nice the atmosphere was in this pizzeria. It actually is a nice little Italian kitchen. I was told the pizza was great, so after living here several years, we decided to order their Supreme. I sat at the bar and watched them make the dough and cook the pizzas. It was far better than any fast food pizza in Columbia. The peppers and onions were fresh and the Italian sausage had an authentic flavor. The crust was perfect--not too thin and not too thick with the right amount of sauce. We will go back. read more

This was our first time trying Tonella's and let me tell you, it was delicious! We ordered the wings which were described as Baked Parmesan And Rosemary Wings With Gorgonzola Dipping Sauce. So good! Different from the same 'ol Buffalo or BBQ wings you get from other places. Very flavorful, not greasy and we will be ordering those again. I recently moved to the area, and all of my coworkers bragged that I had to try Tonellas. They were absolutely correct. This is a unique local restarting. Great atmosphere, the customer service was awesome, and the food was awesome too!! We actually didn't have pizza during our visit, we both ordered pasta dishes. I had the lasagna and it was great. So we finally went. We started with *Fried Mozzarella, the best you can get anywhere! A def must have. The cheese is not greasy and it is fresh, not frozen. The sauce for it is homemade! The wife had the special, Baked Ziti. It was ok, sausage and chicken. She got the Ceasar Salad with giant croutons and was really good. Of course I had large White Pizza and Margerita Pizza (half and half, I couldn't decide). White Pizza had more onions than usual and garlicky as I like it. Margerita Pizza was awesome. Right amount of fresh basil and tomato slices. I know my pizza, I'm a "yankee." This place is AWESOME! My kids' favorite place too. Great NY style pizza. Great salads and other entrees. Lasagna like Mama made. Sausage and mushroom calzone is to die for! On Friday nights it is crowded, but worth the wait. Did I mention the desserts! Crazy homemade chocolate bread pudding and an amazing fried Carmel pound cake! Simply stated an all around GREAT restaurant. P.S. Make sure you buy a loaf of freshly made bread too! Makes an amazing thick cut French toast for breakfast. I'm glad I bought some the first time. Absolute sleeper-- a 5-star restaurant charading as a pizza place. I had the bow tie pasta and shrimp special and the Tuscan salad. WOW, the best I have ever had. You have to try it to believe it. Light pasta, not filling. Perfect shrimp. Tuscan salad was original and very good and different. Now the down sides --- drinks in stryofoam cups are out of character. Need real glasses. The band on Thursday was loud and ended our meal abruptly since we couldn't talk any longer. We went very early it was quite at 6 PM. The rest rooms are very plush considering. I was really disappointed with this place. Maybe we went on a bad day or something but the food was not that great. I was really excited to try this place because of the high rating on yelp and even traveled 24 minutes to try it. We got pizza and garlic knots. The garlic knots were okay, not really good at all though. The pizza just wasn't good, it kinda just tasted like bad pizza. THE best NY style pizza for miles, hands down. They serve beer and wine, so bonus points. It's a very warm atmosphere and definitely upscale from your regular pizza joint but still accessibly to everyone. When we were there they were having a party of 70 and there were still available tables. The staff was very good! The menu is solid. The best NY style pizza outside of NY. The only problem is the owner. He walks around with a basket of bread, and instead of offering you the bread with the meal, he attempts to sell it. We lived in Irmo for about 2 years before we finally heard about Tonella's, and WOW! EXCELLENT NY style pizza. The Bruschetta is hands-down the best I've ever had. Gorgonzola Chips are exceptional, and if you like garlic, try the garlic rolls. Try the Margerhita (sp?) pizza! Very popular on weekends, so get their early. read more

It's just not good. Bad ingredients, bad pizza. A lot of money for bad pizza. My wife & I can throw together a pizza with ingredients from the grocery store for $10 & do way better than what we picked up and paid $35 for. I would've been better off going to Little Caesar's and loading up on $5 hot N' readies. I opened the box and saw what I imagined to be Great Value pizza before they freeze it for shipment. Wow! This is the best pizza ever in South Carolina. We moved here from New Jersey and were so excited to find this wonderful restaurant with real hand-tossed thin-crust pizza. The only place we will go for pizza! Their other menu items are also awesome. My husband had one of the seafood specials and he was so impressed. Went to Tonella's last night for the first time and discovered a real jewel! Since it didn't have a web site or menu online I thought it was going to be a very small, order at the counter, take a seat type of place. I was surprised when we walked in and found that it was larger than what I'd expected. Friday night, 6:45 PM, and it was quite full. We had three other parties waiting inside the door but we were all seated within about 6-7 minutes. Nice atmosphere, Italian decor, and the service was great. Our waitress, Debby, immediately took our drink orders and brought out two Chiantis wines. I'd heard that the pizza was very good, and being ex-Chicago residents and always searching for good pizza in Columbia we were really wanting to try the pizza. My wife, being Polish, saw the Pierogi appetizer and remarked about how we don't see that on the menu often here. I ordered an appetizer so we could try it. We also ordered a side Tuscan Salad. The Pierogies were great. Three pierogies with brown butter and sautéed onions. Very fresh and tasty. We'll definitely try them again next time. The salad was very fresh and good also. It had crumbled Gorgonzola cheese, pine nuts, strawberries, tomatoes, fresh greens and a good balsamic vinegar dressing. We opted for the medium pizza with our normal toppings of pepperoni, mushrooms and onions. I usually get sausage on my half, since my wife doesn't care for sausage. Our waitress highly recommended getting sausage on the whole pizza ( saying it was the best pizza she's ever had - and you could pick off the sausage if you didn't like it). My wife took one bite and immediately remarked on how great the pizza was - even the sausage. It was super tender, thinly sliced sausage (not your ground beef/sausage). This was about the best pizza that I've ever had (that includes Chicago area as well. It's a New York style pizza. Great thin, crisp crust, done perfectly. The cheese has great pull and flavor. We boxed up half the pizza for lunch tomorrow and can't wait to go back. Their menu says their specialty is the Stromboli so I'd like to try that next. The folks at the next table to us live closure by and said the lasagna is very good also. It did look good. Highly recommend it. Kudos to Debby for the great service! Update as of Friday, June 15, 2018 - Went here looking to get our favorite pizza. We were seated quickly and the waitress took our order. Two side regular house salads and a pizza. One Chardonnay and an unsweetened tea. I asked the waitress if they had blue cheese dressing for the salad and she said they did, so I ordered it with blue cheese. It took a longer time than normal to get the salads and mine came with the standard dressing. She delivered them to the wrong table to begin with. I had to tell her that we ordered the salads (table was next to ours). Then I had to call her back to let her know they didn't put blue cheese dressing on the salad. She replaced it with a new salad. After waiting for about 30-45 minutes for the pizza (the people next to us were seated after us and were almost done with their pizza). My wife asked the waitress if something happened to our pizza. We saw her go back to one of the cooks and they were looking at our order and discussing something. She came back and said the pizza would be out in a minute. When she brought the pizza about 5 minutes later she said they had a problem with the pizza (apparently they cooked it too long and had to start another one). Needless to say, this was our worst experience at Tonella's....bad night for them. We also noticed for the first time that the mushrooms are not fresh, but canned. We'd never noticed that before. As good as the pizza is, I'd like to see it made with fresh mushrooms. Others in town do it. We'll still go back, as the food is great and usually the service has been great. read more

Stopped in late Saturday night to host some family that had been driving all day. There were 1 or 2 families enjoying the weekend as well. The staff was attentive (we were almost the only people in there). Ordered some gorgonzola chips (delish, don't miss out) and a pepperoni and sausage pizza. I love coming to Tanella's because of the great service and good food. The lunch specials are relatively inexpensive, the service is dynamite, the tea is always good and the servers have excellent table side manners. For years they've had great pizza and excellent take out, not too fast but it's always ready by the time I get here. The kitchen is always active, the guys back there are entertaining, and it's worth coming here. They close early, around 9 PM, so get there early. They also get crowded at night. Cold beer and lots of nice wines. Average atmosphere, and if you're from around here, you'll probably see someone you know. It's cool and dark, so lunchtime here is great. Not crowded and quiet. One TV, usually good music, not too loud, and great for after the lake. read more
