Pretty good. The friends we went with said it's gone down hill just a little since the original owner moved. It wasn't too crowded but start filling up around 6:30 or son on Saturday night. Still good pie but the crust lacked a little. My "home made" loster ravioli was OK but I couldn't taste any lobster, just the sauce. It didn't seem to be home made. Might go back in the future. If you like paying $25 for a single pizza with very few toppings, low quality cheese, and sauce that tastes like government canned sauce from the cold war era then this is the place for you. Also make sure you don't leave a negative review or the owner will curse you out and tell you how much of a worthless person you are for reviewing the place honestly. I really like Tonella's. Crust on the pizza is really well done, great flavor. Lots of variety. Pasta is really solid as well, don't pass that up. Eggplant is very good. Constructive criticism and general pickiness on my part --While a little pricey, pizza is authentic , always good and let's face it, you get what you pay for. I could go for a different type of sausage, I think the white pie would be better with big Italian crumbled sausage. I don't love the sliced kind. I have lived in Ballantine for a year now right around the corner from Tonella's. I've eaten there twice and we don't get the hype. The second time I had half veggie pizza when my sister visited from CA and it was a bunch of barely cooked veggies thrown on top of cheese. It was horrible. The hostess and server were very nice. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming, on par with most dining in this city. Overcooked calamari and okay pasta. Apparently wine is available, but was not on the menu or any separate menu. We did not have pizza other than my child's kid pizza which was small but at least inexpensive. I got the parmesan wings and a antipasto salad. The wings were way hotter than I expected. I'd give the heat a three on a scale from one to fire. The flavor was just OK, not worth over $1.50 per wing. The salad had very few choices for dressing. No Italian dressing, No Greek dressing. They recommended the raspberry vinaigrette. Seemed odd but there were no other choices that sounded appropriate and they said that's what the house normally serves with that salad. It was worse than bad. Very watery. It tasted like watered down kool aid. Very inappropriate for an antipasto salad. The salad itself was also bad. The lettuce was waterlogged, the tomatoes were turning translucent as was some of the lettuce and the peperoni was the hottest I've ever had. Way too spicy for a salad or even a pizza. Also, the prices on the internet are way lower than the actual prices. I expected $14.00 and the cost was over $21.00 I do not recommend this place. read more

After reading a few reviews and seeing the menu on this app we decided to give their pizza a try. We've made 3 trips to Italy and had pizza everywhere up the east coast, but I've never had a Margarita pizza with no sauce. It was basically a white pizza with small slices of tomatoes on it. The menu said nothing about no sauce. On top of that, apparently the Picts on the app are really old because their prices were much higher than what we saw. It's been a few months since I came here, but it's hard to forget how great of an experience I had. The service we received was absolutely perfect and the food lived up to my high expectations. I heard the pizza tasted like NY pizza from a fellow New Yorker friend of mine, so my expectations were immediately raised because I have high standards for NY style pizza, since I grew up eating it my whole life. First time customer . Did take out of large pizza, 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 veggie. They put zero spices on the pizza. I talked with them later and they said they never put use any spices. They use tomato sauce, cheese and topping. If you want some oregano you have to ask it. By the way they use canned mushrooms. It was the worst pizza I have ever had. read more

Our first experience with take out pizza was good. We went and sat in the restaurant tonight for a very quick dinner. It was our fault, we were rushed. We told our waitress our dilemma. And she was amazing. Sweet lady with short blonde hair. Our pizza came out quickly. Man, I am telling you, the pizza fresh makes a world of difference. Let's start with the garlic knots, the best I've ever had. We were in town for a soccer game, and looking for a place for a "team" lunch. We did call ahead and they held a room for us. As I said the garlic knots were amazing! Crispy yet tender. My family ordered a large bbq pizza which was also amazing. Not greasy at all. My friend ordered the the philly cheese steak sandwich and said she loved it. All in all the food was great, the service was great. The place was clean. This place is consistently delicious. I have been here multiple times with my dad while visiting in town. Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to pizza crust. This is a NY thin style. I love he Margherita pizza because hey use copious fresh basil. My dad always gets bacon and pepperoni which he says is perfect. The service could not be better. They check in on you often, and are always bubbly. I really like the old school pizza parlor feel when you go in. It's dark and warm and smells delicious. I prefer a pizza with a thinner crust, so this was 100% up my alley. Honestly, if I had to make one complaint, it would be that there were too many toppings (which sounds silly, I know, but there were so many!). The meat was piled high! I also had their Caprese. I have to be honest, it's not as good as some others I've had, but it was still a solid choice. My guests really enjoyed their spaghetti and lasagna as well. Went here on a whim and it was probably the best pizza I've had near the lake. We got the fried mozzarella and 5 meat pizza. Both were amazing, we the mozzarella comes in two slices and for the price we thought it should be 3-4 slices but it was still very good. The food was okay; the waitress was kind; but the girl with the long dark hair was the rudest and had the worst unprofessional attitude I had ever encountered. I worked in service industry for many years but when someone neglects not only the staff but their patrons as well that is uncalled for. She cussed at us because she assumed we were holding up her getting home to her "life" I've been a single mom before and not once would I treat anyone with such a heartless attitude. We simply were waiting on a togo order for our son; the pizza we ordered while there eating was burnt. No plates were offered to us, the salad had wilted and salmon under cooked. If it wasn't for a little boy wanting a sausage pizza we wouldn't of "held her up." Even though she didn't even mention our togo order was ready. Only now it's a soggy mess. All I can say is... WOW! I've heard nothing but great reviews from friends and this place did not disappoint. My family came in on a Friday evening and the place was full, which is a good sign. Everyone was so accommodating and all of the members of the waitstaff could not have been friendlier! Janet, who I assume is the owner, took our name for the table and within minutes had the staff cleaning off a booth to fit our family size, she brought us to our table and told us of the evenings specials. She really is a great representation of the staff and is doing a wonderful job of running the restaurant. We started off with an small order of the roasted Gorgonzola chips and quickly had to order a second because they were THAT good, even the little picky eaters in my family were happily satisfied. We then ordered two small salads, a large white pizza, and a small pepperoni calzone. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs so we had to take boxes home but everything tasted delicious and heated up well for lunch the next day. When the bill came I was shocked at how low the price was, I fed 6 people for under $60, which is often a rarity for a Friday night out. I can't recommend this place enough!!!!
