A new friend suggested we meet at this place for lunch. They had had good lunch options that were not outrageously priced but also you can't substitute anything. I got the sashimi option and asked if I could have salmon instead of tuna roll, but that wasn't an option. I like tuna, but I prefer salmon. The sashimi was tasty and I like they gave you 3 kinds in addition to the tuna roll. The lunch special also came with a crunchy sushi and miso soup. We were seated quickly and because it's located in a mini shopping center, there was ample parking even if you had to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. We did have to flag someone down to take our order even though all the tables weren't full but once we did the food came out quickly. Tomo is definitely a good option if you are in that part of town!

Sweet ambiance for being farther from the central downtown. Nice interior, family-style Japanese food. We ordered an array of appetizers, rolls, and desserts. My friends are regulars and brought me. Notable mentions: spicy edamame, quail egg shooters, cherry blossom, DDD, and ask for the fried baby crabs at the end. What a culinary experience. Loved it! Waiters and waitresses were extremely personable and fun!

Love coming to this place everything is so good. You really can't go wrong, sushi, sashimi, dumplings, even the mochi ice cream. We always order so much, I walk out of there stuffed. Every time I try to pick out something different, and I'm never disappointed! The service is good, but I feel like sometimes they come a by a little more often. I get it though, they're always so busy, and that's for a reason! Not a very huge place, we usually sit at the bar because we're only a party of two, which isn't a problem. If you have a larger party, you shouldn't have too much of an issue.

The food here was great -- I'd give it a solid 4/5. The specialty rolls were definitely the highlight, especially the "Ex-Girlfriend" roll -- so good! We also tried the lychee sake, and it was delicious. We started with the dynamite appetizer, which was just okay, nothing special. The ambiance was really nice too; it was cool to watch the sushi being made right in front of us. The only downside was the service -- it honestly wasn't great. We were barely checked on, and no one ever came by to refill our water. We wanted to order more rolls but had to wait upwards of 10-15minutes before service staff approached us. That's really the main reason I'm knocking off two stars.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I'm sort of a sushi connoisseur. This place passed the test. Very fresh. Well-made and served quickly. Flavors were good and not overpowering. Fish was nice and fresh. Seems expensive.

Came here for my friends birthday and we sat in the little room in the back and it was spaciest and cute! We decided to go family style with 8 people (which i dont think i'll do again because we got mostly sashimi and nigiri. there wasn't enough to share). We ordered hot sake and it was good! We tried so many different dishes and the ones that stood out to me were the triple D rolls!! So so good!! The peppers were really good as well. Wagyu hot rock was a great experience but i wouldnt recommend with a big group because it does not fill you up! For your bday you can choose a free dessert and they play this funny happy birtjday song super loud in the speakers. Service? Phenomenal! Sushi came out quick, water was always filled, and amazing amazing attitude! We were treated with a smile!

Fantastic reviews had my niece & I try this restaurant for the first time. The reviews did not lie. The food was delicious. We sat at the bar and started with spicy edamame. We shared the black cod, Double D roll, and our waiter recommended the off menu Samurai roll. Finished our meal with mango & strawberry mochi. Didn't care for strawberry, but mango was good. Will definitely be returning here often!

This may be the best "hole in the wall" sushi spot in Austin. Tucked away off Parmer road, Tomodachi is an unassuming but great sushi spot. We tried 5 different nigiri's and could tell the fish was fresh, and it was all very tasty with the accompaniments that came with them. The rolls we had were solid as well. We will definitely be back!

I adore this place!! The music was great, the staff was so friendly and funny, and the energy was amazing! The menu was one of a kind, lol. I had the Something Wrong roll and tried the Tempura #2 roll. Both were fantastic and I would highly recommend visiting if you have not been yet.

Staff is very friendly and remembers you if you are a regular. We live in the neighborhood so come here often. This is a small mom and pops Japanese place and holds around 40 people. The chef is a former Novi chef. Here are our go-tos for dinner and we love them all. - cherry blossom (I forgot to take a photo) - Dinner tempura - includes shrimp - Black Cod - mt Fuji roll We order these all the time. Tip: they have really great bento boxes and sushi lunch specials during the

This little sushi spot hits the spot every SINGLE time. We have been to this place many place & every time the service is amazing. The sushi rolls are always made with fresh fish. My husband loves Hamachi Kama which is the neck of the fish and this is one of 2 sushi spots that we have found in Austin that actually has it. Here is what we ordered: 007 sassy Suzy samurai - amazing tangy flavor and it's a secret menu item Hamachi Kama Dynamite spicy Tuna HR We absolutely love this place and will go back over and over again.

Tomodachi Sushi is a hidden gem offering delicious sushi in a cozy and intimate setting in North Austin! The sushi bar and table seating provide options whether you're dining solo or with a group of friends or coworkers. They have weekday lunch specials reasonably priced and generously portioned, perfect for a satisfying and quick meal! The servers were attentive throughout my meal and I didn't feel rushed despite arriving 30 min before they closed (that's on me). Overall, will be back when the sushi craving hits.

The food and service of this restaurant are quite good but very overpriced. We had a good experience, but it is not worth the money.

This was our favorite place but has gone down hill ever since Steve sold it. Portions are noticeably smaller.

Best sushi in Austin and a great value compared to Uchi! Make sure you have a reservation as they have limited seating.

Another traditional Christmas lunch at our favorite and nearby hibachi restaurant this past…read moreChristmas Day! The menu seemed to have changed a bit from last year, but looked substantially the same. We were able to call that day to check for availability and were able to walk in and get a seat for 3 at the hibachi table and didn't have to wait too long to get our orders in and eat. We enjoyed the entertainment the chef provided! We sometimes weren't clear who our server was so it took us a bit to flag the right person down to take a drink order. We ordered chicken, shrimp, steak, and salmon dish options. I had a hot sake too. I liked the onion type soup with mushrooms they offered this year as I'm not generally a fan of traditional miso soup. The place was nicely decorated and we enjoyed the annual experience of eating Japanese hibachi on Christmas Day! I'm sure we will be back again next year!

Pretty weak experience overall. My partner and I made a reservation at 7:30 on a Friday for a…read morehibachi table, and had it confirmed by email. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess said that she didn't have the reso on her end; rather than apologizing or making a single effort to fix the issue, she just stared at us. We had to prompt her for clarification and next steps, and had to continue to prompt her through the process of getting us sat. When we finally sat down at a regular table, we waited about 15 minutes without a server coming by. I eventually flagged a server down, and we got our order under way. We requested the manager stop by to tell him about the issue with the reservation and the fact that his hostess needs additional training, and surprise, the manager was also not helpful. He did apologize for our reservation being lost, but blamed it on the system and denied any responsibility for taking care of it - basically just told us that "life is life". He did not offer a discount or any kind of relief for the setbacks or bad service. I wasn't expecting the world or anything, but good hospitality dictates that you do more that basically tell us to just deal with it. For the food: the sushi was pretty gnarly - it looked like somebody was angry at the fish when they were slicing. Most things needed salt. Steak and fried rice was good, but the vegetables were pretty much raw. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to service, especially on graduation/mother's day weekend. But honestly I'm a little impressed at how little the entire staff cared about their guests.

I had such a great experience here, definitely one of my new favorite sushi spots…read more The food was delicious. The tuna tataki was super fresh and I also had miso soup which I loved. The ceviche was really tasty too. For sushi rolls, my favorites were the Cowgirl and the Lion King both were SO good, I would 100% order them again. The service was amazing. We were a group of 12 people and our waiter handled everything perfectly. Super attentive, friendly and made the whole experience even better. Also, the happy hour is definitely worth it. I tried the sangria and loved it. The ambiance is beautiful 10/10. Only thing to keep in mind is parking can be a bit tricky since it's in The Domain, but there are parking garages nearby. I loved it. Great food and great service. I'll definitely be back

We came back to Blue Sushi Sake Grill after about 5 years, excited to give it another try. One…read morething we still really appreciate is their extended Happy Hour Monday-Saturday -- it's a great deal and gives you the chance to try a variety of dishes without spending a fortune. Unfortunately, despite ordering 10 different items, most of the food ended up being pretty underwhelming. Here's our breakdown from best to worst: Ama Ebi (4.5/5) - Probably the best dish of the night. The shrimp tasted fresh and sweet, and we especially loved that they included the deep-fried shrimp head. Crispy, flavorful, and a nice touch. Crispy Rice Cake (4/5) - Generous portion of spicy bigeye tuna on top. I actually liked that the tuna was roughly chopped instead of finely minced because you could really enjoy the texture. The tataki sauce added great flavor. My only complaint is the rice cakes could've been crispier and less oily. Bigeye Tuna Sashimi (4/5) - Good quality sashimi with nice-sized cuts. Their wasabi had a surprisingly strong kick, which I loved. We weren't served ginger with this dish, which may have just been a kitchen oversight. Tobiko Nigiri (3.5/5) - Our son enjoyed this one. The only thing that threw me off was how dark/black the tobiko looked. Not sure if it's naturally that color or enhanced somehow. Truffle Salmon & Yellowtail Serrano (3.5/5) - Tasted fine but didn't really stand out. Still worth trying during Happy Hour because the pricing makes it a decent value. Kids Bento Box (3.5/5) - Flexible options for kids with different proteins and carbs. The fruit served with it was fresh and sweet, which made the meal feel more balanced and healthier overall. Ceviche (3/5) - Pretty forgettable. Despite having a lot of ingredients, the flavors fell flat. It leaned heavily toward chopped shrimp and lacked citrusy brightness. We actually had to ask for extra lime wedges and remix the dish ourselves, and it tasted noticeably better afterward. Calamari (3/5) - I liked that the dish included tempura vegetables in addition to calamari, but everything was extremely oily. There was literally a puddle of oil sitting at the bottom of the plate, and oil dripped off the calamari when we picked it up. Mochi Ice Cream (1/5) - Easily the worst mochi ice cream I've had. The mochi texture was stale and crumbly instead of soft and stretchy. We tried black sesame and seasonal coconut. The black sesame barely had any flavor, though the coconut ice cream itself was slightly better because it had coconut bits mixed in. Service was good overall. Our waitress was newer but very kind and attentive. If she didn't know an answer, she checked with the team and came back with information instead of guessing, which we appreciated. One thing I do genuinely appreciate about this restaurant is how accommodating they are for gluten-sensitive diners. They offer a separate gluten-sensitive menu and are willing to modify many dishes, which makes dining out much easier for our household. Overall, the Happy Hour pricing and gluten-sensitive options are probably the biggest reasons we'd consider returning, but based on the food alone, the experience didn't live up to our expectations this time around.
