This place was really good to me. I was flown to Cancun for work and first stayed at an all…read moreinclusive, then came here for a night to figure out where I would go for the next 2 weeks of my extended stay in the area. I wanted a solo-retreat-work- type experience and reviews were saying to "leave Cancun asap" and that this was a party hostel. I ended up staying my whole 2 weeks here! It had everything. Antonella led sunrise beach yoga every morning to start the day, which became my staple. The breakfast was great ( I tried almost everything), Renee usually helped me with breakfast and always brightened my day and remembered my name and how I liked my coffee. Dave who books tours knew so much and with his desk right by the passing point he became a friend if I wanted to ask a question or share about something I did. The beach is so close that I wouldn't even need my shoes to walk to it, then with the hostel being on the bay , it made watching the sunset over the water nice. As for it being a party hostel, it had the energy to meet and mingle and awesome bartenders, but was also quiet enough in the coworking space (with fast wifi) if I wanted to do that instead or feel like I was in both places at once. My room was quiet at night (you can tell them you want a room that isn't as close to the bar noise) and 3 of my other roommates in the 8-person dorm were also staying long term working remotely and loving it as much as me. Each night has activities to bring people together, my favorite was learning to dance from the professional dancers they bring in, but I also enjoyed the cooking class. I highly recommend and will be back. It had a good balance of everything and the staff was really kind and Rodrigo was helpful when I had a mishap which was very comforting. The managers are even around caring and making sure everyone is happy. I waited until my last night to bike the bike path to downtown and I loved how well lit it was and safe it felt. I met people from around the world, got to do laundry, and it was the perfect reset for my year before I went back home to winter.

At times there was issues what the language barrier but we worked it out . Hospitality was the key and the staff met our needs . We enjoyed the social activities and the pool . The price is rental and of course we booked a private room with the balcony facing the water . The WiFi on the smart tv needs to improve but we managed . Our next visit to Cabo, we definitely make Mayan Monkey our hostel private room stay .

We stayed in our own private room with the king bed which was huge (dresser, wardrobe, and big shower, Mexican sink). It was great for us because we brought our almost 3 year old son along and there was an extra bed in the room for him as well. It felt like a nice hotel room in an hacienda somewhere, not a hostel. They also have more hostel type shared rooms with bunkbeds. I really liked the hostel's common area. It is all under a palapa style roof. They had the furniture handmade by local carpenters and made with reclaimed wood which I think is really cool. Nacho and Marbe who run the place are great trustworthy people with lots of knowledge of the area. They both speak English and Spanish which is nice. They do tours themselves as he is a scuba instructor and she studied biology so you are in good hands. If they are too busy to lead their own tour then they will hook you up with a great tour at a discounted price. There are also bike rentals on site. If you have a rental car like we did you can park it inside the gated courtyard which was very convenient. If you don't they are a short walk to the beach and the Malecon. Oh and Chula, she is basically like the hostel's mascot, she is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet--an added bonus! Next time we're in town we will definitely return. Tip: try emailing or calling, you may get a better rate than if you go through one of those 3rd party websites. Also, if you are doing a long term stay I think they give free nights and discounts. Along with that it is also very clean and comfortable with included breakfast, pool, swing chair and hammocks in the outside communal area, a big balcony with beautiful views in the morning/sunset. Besides all that, the staff is very friendly and professional (Sergio, Angelo, Silvia, Neto, Esperanza, Kevin). The owner, Benoit, is the very kind and the warmest host anyone can ask for. It is a "dive friendly" hostel but don't let that confuse you, the place offers a ton of activities and if you are not in the diving community you will too fall in love with this place. Whenever I return to Cabo I will for sure be staying here.

I got…read morelost on public transport on my way to the property and missed my stop which is really right in front of the hostel and Benoit or Ben(for short), the French owner, went out of his way to help get me safely to the hostel. There were countless ways by which he and his staff helped to make my stay better, whether it was teaching me how to use the remote control so that I could watch Netflix on screen, giving me pillows to sit on, or accommodating my specific requests. They are super nice and always make sure the fridge that contains the breakfast ingredients are stocked with fresh food. I liked the amazing home-like atmosphere that Ben and his lovely Filipina wife Yazzy foster there. Ben and Cecilia (the sweet, patient and cool staff person) are always willing and happy to answer all questions. I very much like the upper deck and it was my choice spot to enjoy breakfast that I had just cooked in their kitchen. I enjoyed the international atmosphere of the hostel a great deal. When I was there I met guests from Russia, Austria, France, the US and other parts of Mexico. The location is terrific with the marina and beach in walking distance. For me though one of the best things is the easy walking distance to some excellent restaurants. Affordable but delicious. Some stand outs are Las Paisas, Tony's Tacos, Gourmet (amazing breakfast place) and a resto that offers raw clams and oysters served with limes. I forget the name but it has "Mariscos" in it. That dish is sooo good. If you're into shopping, the place is near the big mall as well as smaller shops. Just be careful where you withdraw or exchange money, the rates are extremely variable. If you prefer not to walk, buses stop right outside the hostel to take you to main destinations and that includes a ride back to the airport. If you're on a budget or a solo traveller, I doubt any other place could rival the value that this place offers. If you're a group you can rent and enjoy the entire house. Highly recommended.

I was waiting to write my review until after check out to make sure all went well…read more Ever been to another South/Latin American country? Well, this hotel is similar to what you'll find in the local hotels there. No, this isn't the Hilton or Hyatt. This is a great private room hostel type hotel though. The rooms have comfortable and clean beds, chest of drawers, hanging space, small Tv, and bathroom. My room was cleaned daily with care and the sheets and towels refreshed. The sheets and towels are clean, if well worn. The hotel isn't spotless but it is clean. The AC runs nice and cold, and the fan is usually enough on a warm night. I didn't have the same issues with noise as some other reviewers mention, it was relatively quiet for the length of my stay. My one neighbor did bring his dog who didn't like to be left alone and he smoked outside of room, which wafted a bit in to mine (nothing major). The rooftop pool and lounge area is wonderful and relaxing and I found myself up there often. The hotel is also walking distance from everything. It takes less than 10 minutes walking to get to the beach. And it is steps from a ton of great restaurants. Checking and check out was a breeze. Staff were amiable and quiet. I got my key deposit back without issue. There's free coffee in the morning and you're welcome to use the common area kitchen (clean up after yourself!). Overall this is a great hotel, for a great price. I booked an Expedia package deal and I'm very happy! Highly recommend if you're this type of traveler.

GR Solaris Lighthouse in Cabo…read more This was our second time staying here in the last couple of months, so we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. You can definitely tell they're trying to make upgrades and repairs around the resort, which is a good thing, but there's still a lot of disconnect when it comes to communication, especially with entertainment. Most of the time it wasn't clear what was happening, where things were being held, or if something was even still going on. One of the nights there was a wedding and a lot of the normal areas were shut down to regular guests, which was frustrating and not really explained ahead of time. It just felt odd to lose access to things without much notice. The rooms still need some clear updating as well. Our chair on the balcony was completely broken and couldn't be used at all, and the light out there didn't work either. Little things like that add up, especially for the price point. That said, we do love the overall vibe of the people at the resort. The staff is kind and welcoming, and that part of the experience was genuinely positive. The Italian restaurant is by far the highlight. The lasagna and the steak are excellent, and while they rotate between the three restaurants, the Italian one is really the only one worth the effort. The resort has potential, but there are still quite a few things that need attention before it feels fully worth the price paid. We'll likely wait quite a bit before coming back to give them time to catch up on upgrades.
