Vila de Gracia is a foodie heaven as there are countless meat, vegetable, and seafood stores all around the neighborhood. There are at least 10 meat shops within a block of our house and they are all pretty good but I've decided that Gasch is top of my list. Every cut of beef is available. They will hand slice anything you want in anyway that you need, in any quantity.. They will cut off the fat, leave the fat, season the meat, or even skewer the meat. I once asked for oxtail and they brought out 2 whole ones from the back fridge. I chose one and they chopped it up - yes, it's that fresh! And the meat is very flavorful. They specialize in Galician beef which some will argue is the best beef in the world. Service is great and the women butchers are efficient but very friendly. Prices are competitive for the neighborhood, but way cheaper than the tasteless beef in the US. Make sure you check the hours as they are only open half days on Saturday and Monday, closed on Sundays, and are always closed for daily siestas.

While there were many options to choose from we felt that when in Spain we should eat what they eat. So couldn't pass up Iberico ham and the Tortilla Española and when they both came together in a sandwich even better. I added a large draft Estrella beer and pricing was super affordable compared to the States. Service was friendly and quick. They heat up the sandwich for you after your order. They have a good amount of open seating for people watching also. Did my toes curl, no. But was I fully satisfied with my sandwich and cold beer, absolutely. On top of it being quick and inexpensive. I definitely would recommend Enrique Tomas when trying to decide amongst all the many options in this shopping center.

We came in here looking for pork breakfast. There's a small restroom in the back on the pork shop. Down a small ramp, it's almost like being in a bunker with ham legs all along the wall. Om nom nom nom. They have a large variety of hams. You can choose from the different grades of pig, where they come from, what they ate, how long the ham has been aged. Some of these hams are 5+ years old! They have a carving station up at the front, where locals come in and grab a cone of ham, a little paper cup like you get at the water cooler, filled with ham sliced super thin. You can watch them carve up the ham hocks they have at the front. They carve like masters. They also sell the ham pre-packed and ready to go in little coolers. We opted for ham sandwiches, which had different varieties of ham on hard bread rolls, with coffee. The service was relaxed. I recommend the Bellota ham, where the pigs only ate acorns. The ham is a darker color, richer, fuller, maximum delicious.

It also wasn't too fatty, which I liked. The person slicing the jamon (butcher? jamon connoisseur?) let us try a piece of something else he was slicing, which I thought was really nice of him. I believe they can ship their products to you, so now I'm kind of wishing that I had done that. Oh well, I guess this just means I'll have to go back to Spain!
