Understaffed they schedule you for procedures that you have to wait a few days and end up canceling and sending you home lol what a place

Was advised by my Dr to go to the ER on 27JUL I arrived at 8pm it was packed I waited 1hour to be seen at triage someone came out looked at my injury ordered an xray and said go sit. I'm a Latina woman with brown skin who works in a corporate environment, and I was disgusted by the way I was treated at Tobey Hospital. I arrived around 8 p.m. with hidradenitis suppurativa and a golf-ball-sized abscess on my inner labia. The pain was unbearable. When my vitals were taken, my blood pressure was 162/128, and even though I could barely sit or walk, I was sent back to the waiting room. I sat for over two hours with no care or concern. With all respect to other patients, it was clear my condition was severe, yet two people who arrived after me were taken first. While waiting, the abscess burst -- blood and pus soaked through my pants. I went to the front desk, and only then did a nurse come out with an attitude, take me to a room, and leave without asking if I needed anything. Another hour passed with no one checking on me. My sister pressed the nurse button after seeing the bed drenched and me crying in pain. A CNA came, told the nurses, and they ignored him. I was so upset I took off my bracelet and left. No one cared. No empathy, no respect, no effort to help. I may have state insurance, but I still deserve to be treated with dignity. I work hard, I provide for my family, and I rarely complain -- but this was unacceptable. Tobey Hospital should be ashamed. No patient should ever be treated this way. We all deserve compassion, respect, and humane care -- regardless of background or insurance. read more

My son was just discharged from Tobey hospital for what we initially thought was appendicitis and thankfully it turned out to be simple but very painful constipation. The entire hospital experience from the ED to the admission and discharge after two days - was EXCEPTIONAL!! The nurses Kristina, the two Madisons, as well as PA Jodie and Dr. C everyone was very kind, attentive, and educated both my son and I on how to keep his belly happy with lots of fruits, veggies, and water - reminders that an 18 year old often overlooks with junk food. Their professionalism and attentive behavior with a sense of humor made this very stressful experience a very pleasant and educational one. Keep up the GREAT work Tobey Hospital!! This is not a hospital just a building that should be condemned. If l need to call 911 I make sure that l'm out of town so I'll be able to go to a real hospital. I was taken to this hospital because l passed out in the hall of my residence, because of neighbors calling 911 sure enough ended up back here. I'm thinking of moving because of it. Just dread this place. I was semiconsious upon arriving couldn't open my eyes. I'm not sure if he was a doctor or not, he pinched my shoulder so hard that it lead to quite a bruise. Felt the pain for some time. The next thing that I remember was a nurse shoving a thermometer through my teeth so hard it felt like she was going to break them. As she did this she yelled what's the matter with you do you have Dementia. I thought of my mother right away because they thought that she could of had this shortly before she passed which was recent. Six weeks before my husband passed away in my arms at a hospital in Boston. These awful people aren't aware of what someone could be going through they just say and do what they want. When I finally could speak l asked a woman working there who that nurse was. Laughing she said oh that's whatever name was mentioned, she has a month on her. I told them that I was familiar with patients advocates. Between the pinch and the insensitive comment l wanted out. This Dungeon is not for me. Living almost three miles away l could have walked home, Praying to God that l never return, the Graveyard Is Far Better. Horrible care. Went in with back pain and was sent home with Tylenol and lanicaid back patches I came in in a wheelchair and could not walk. My family called an ambulance and I went to Beth Israel in Plymouth and was immediately rushed to Boston. I had sepsis and a bone infection. I was a part of the bariatric surgery program. South Coast is known for their weight loss surgery program. I live in Fall River and most of my appointments were at Charlton, but because of my size I had to go to Toby for the actual surgery. Everything went smoothly. Everybody was super nice. The hospital seems recently renovated and super clean. I had no problems at all. I highly recommend. read more

Went to ER. No one in there at 4am. Possible kidney stone. B/P 179/72 excruciating pain. Was administered Morphine 2xs then Dilaudid so they said they'd have to admitt to hospital. CAT scan showed no stones so did one with contrast dye. Now 2pm wife comes on on her lunch break asked for results of all test. Nurse "Ellen" took off n never came back. No results or food after 10hrs. After 12hrs I left due to them not caring for me n lack of answers in a game plan. Never going back. For your safety go somewhere else ​ read more

Went to the emergency room @ Tobey hospital after I had a bloody nose that I tried for 30 minutes to stop with no success. I could hardly talk to the admitting person due the bloody towel I was holding on my nose. It was 1:30 in the afternoon and the emergency waiting room was busy, but not full. I looked around and I was the only patient bleeding, every one else appeared to have the flu, colds, stomach distress etc:. Some of the blood was working it's way down my throat and I coughed up heavy partially clotted blood in to towel I had. After about 1-1/2 hours of waiting, I had applied enough pressure to the nose bleed that is had stopped, but I had a re-bleed about 15 minutes latter which I was again able to stop. @ about the 2 hr of waiting mark, the intake nurse saw me. She told me I would have to see a "provider" which meant Dr. (I assumed) and was sent back to the waiting room. After waiting another 1-1/2 hrs., I went up to the desk and was told there were a couple of patients ahead of me. After 3 more patients were called, but not me, I went back to the admitting desk and was told again there were 2 more patients ahead of me again. After 3 more patients were called again, but not me, I went back to the admitting desk. At this point a new admitting person was on duty, and I was told again that there were 2 more patients ahead of me! I told her I had been told 2 people were ahead of me 3 times and I'm still waiting. That's when she told me "you had a nose bleed, you're not a high priority"! So everything I was told was BS! I motioned to my wife and we left after I told the new admitting person "I better not get billed for this". We had been there 5-1/2 hrs for nothing! I don't go to an emergency room unless it's something I can't fix myself or I believe the condition may be dangerous to my health. Due to my profession, I have been in emergency rooms from Texas to Boston and have always been seen by a doctor within an hour of arrival. The lack of unprofessionalism by the nursing staff during the early morning shift at Tobey Hospital on Nov. 1 was appalling and disturbing. I *thought* it was within patient rights to ask for a chaperone when a male nurse is performing a procedure. Instead of complying with compassion, said nurse made a snarky remark and walked out of the room of a young, frightened adult patient diagnosed with severe, debilitating anxiety (a female nurse was not sent in until staff change 90 minutes later). So, to answer the question, "How can Tobey Hospital improve,"... Require sensitivity training for nurses dealing with special needs patients. Patients should not be stigmatized or: * Belittled * Treated as if their feelings and concerns do not matter * Be told that they have behaved "inappropriately" If your loved one has special needs, go elsewhere or be ready to advocate for them. read more

I had an ambulance take me to Tobey , I passed out in my home, I was there for 6 hours and was told at 3am to go home. I had a siesure and I've never been the same. They didn't care OR investigate to find out what happened. I should NEVER have been sent home! I have headaches everyday and they could've cared less! My little brother had a seizure in the ER waiting room and was ignored by staff. Other patients experiencing their own emergencies helped get him inside while staff looked on. When the triage nurse came out she was incredibly rude--she did not ask after him, even as he was seizing and unable to breathe in front of her--she told us it would be a 3-4 hour wait. He was never even seen. I understand this hospital is understaffed but the complete lack of care and compassion shown is absolutely astounding. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. read more

You do NOT want to end up here. A family member was in the ER in a room after several hours of waiting. NO nurses answered the call button and we were snapped at when we found a nurse and asked for water after being in the room for 6 hours. We left at 1:00AM and were back by 8:30AM. The call button was ringing and our family member had been sitting in feces for several hours. We had to clean them up ourselves. Find a commode bucket ourselves, find someone to empty it ourselves. The had NOT brought food to them. The worst hospital ever this place should be closed I've had many bad experiences here but yesterday was the absolute worst from the emt at the house to our time in the ER. this was not just my experience but I witnessed how 2 other patients were being treated we were all treated like second rate garbage the dr didn't even look at by husbands injured foot. this is sat am and was told that nothing could be done cuz it's the weekend end and to call his md on Monday morning WHAT!!!! There is concern that he could be loose his foot or toe his visiting nurse called the ambulance the emt's wouldn't take a report from her exceptEd him to walk to the ambulance. My husband has been very sick for over a year we came to Toby's ER while they were under construction and the triage staff were rude and insulting. We ended up leaving and a ciuple of hours later ended up at Mass General. Since then we only have gone to St Lukes.. Last night we needed to return to an ER and due to being exhausted we came to Toby. They have vindicated themselves. The wait was fairly quick for an ER. on July 18th I had a 10:30 AM appointment for a stress test which required me to fast and not drink anything but water. At 9:22 AM i received a call saying the appointment was cancelled and for me to reschedule. I called back and either the cardiologist was on vacation or some other mumbo jumbo. They asked if I wanted to reschedule and I said goodbye and hung up.. Not good fasting for nothing. No apology only a lack of professionalism. Don't get stood up by these jerks. This is a weak link with SouthCoast health. If your hurt, keep driving, you'll be glad you did. read more

I would give this hospital zero stars if I could. My husband hurt his leg at work couldn't even walk on it, he works in Wareham so was brought to Tobey at 12:00pm. After I got out of work I drove from Dartmouth to Wareham to be with him. It was after 5pm when I got there and he was still sitting in the waiting room waiting to be seen. I am in the medical field so I know it is a very busy and tough job, I know it's not the nurses fault, Tobey hospital needs to reevaluate their system because this is unacceptable. The new ER is so spacious and up to date! The staff were very attentive and friendly. I was directed to Radiology and diagnosed within an hour for a Baker's cyst. I would recommend this facility to friends and family. read more

My sister was a patient at Tobey in the months of April and May 2020. Sje has been very sick and weak. the Nurses and the Doctors were very helpful in their professional care. On the other hand some of the CNAs were unprofessional. Not treating her with dignity and respect. Most elderly people live on their own. Once well they do return to their former lifestyles. Don't assume that a gray headed person is senile. The majority are not. Every person should be treated with dignity and respect. One day you maybe that person lying in an hospital bed needing assistance with bathroom privileges. read more

I was not admitted here, but was seen outpatient for pre-employment screening. The lab techs, phlebotomists, and administrative staff here are amazing. To make a long story short, the company managing my pre-employment testing had screwed up scheduling for every single test I had, and ended up sending me here as a last resort (I Iive in BOSTON). Previously, I had tried unsuccessfully to get blood work done an hour and a half north of Boston. The staff here bent over backwards to help me get my blood work done, which involved many failed faxes, emails, and hour long phone calls on hold. One of the phlebotomists even skipped her lunch to help me. I am so appreciative of the time the staff put in to make sure that I didn't have to go to a fourth clinic to get my blood work done. Been there a few times lately...and NEVER a bad experience! I ended up in a severe emergency situation requiring surgery. I woke up in the ICU. I was so very well cared for! When I transferred to the regular surgical floor, the nurses from the ICU CONSTANTLY came down to check on me! I felt important, remembered, and very lucky to have been in their care! As an added bonus? The food was outstanding! It's never great to HAVE to go to the hospital (unless you're having a baby) but the caring doctors, nurses, aids, housekeeping staff, nutritional staff....EVERYONE cares! This hospital did a horrible job with my father. After having been released(2 weeks too early) from rehab for a severe hematoma, he awoke in the middle of the night with excruciating back and hip pain and couldn't move. Was rushed to Tobey 2am on a Wed. By Friday his pain had subsided but the doctors refused the family's request for an xray of the spine to make sure he didn't have a fracture, claiming it was just arthritis. By Friday he had an erratic heartbeat(he has a pacemaker) and his blood pressure was spiking, which could cause dizziness and fainting in a man who can barely get around with a walker. When my sister visited late Friday afternoon a nurse had not even been in to see him, and when she demanded a nurse it took over an hour for one to show up. Tobey insisted on discharging him Saturday, 72 hours after he was admitted, to an empty house, while his heartbeat and blood pressure were still problematic. The visiting nurse Sunday was very concerned with the erratic heartbeat and spiking blood pressure which he will have to address on his own. Do NOT go to this hospital if you have any other choice. read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of bringing our first child into this world at Tobey. They were amazing from the birthing classes to the birth. The amazing nurses and doctors Spent extra time to make sure our needs were met, that we were comfortable and explained every step along the way. Sent to the ER after a serious auto accident. The staff was concerned, responsive and very professional. CAT scan and X-rays were processed efficiently and timely. The analysis of the results were clear, concise and carefully presented to me. Remedial interventions were managed quickly. If I could give this hospital TEN STARS I would. Four years ago we bought a home here a few blocks away. Being from Kingston we always used Jordan/Beth Israel and were VERY dissatisfied. So much so we started going to Brockton Hosp. (Very kind). I have now been here for a birth, a mentally ill family member, chest pains and each time I leave saying to myself "how did we miss this hidden little gem!!??". The E.R. was so kind & attentive with my chest pains from the triage to the custodian/janitorial dept. even. I honestly started to tear up when I heard that labor & delivery will no longer deliver babies. What an absolute shame. I have been to deliveries from TUFTS NEMC to Beth Israel to Brockton, etc... and NEVER EVER EVEN CLOSE did we receive the time & attention we did at Tobey and I mean this with every fiber of my being. The bonding alone right after birth, skin to skin contact, no invasive bright tests or cold scales, measurings, as soon as born like other hosp's. Just Mommy & family & quiet, skin to skin contact cuddling was unsurpassed in true care and compassion. We felt like we were with family with each nurse. There's always that ONE nurse you dread ... NOPE! Each got better. Dr. Tripp came back and spent so much time answering questions we had about why he chose Wareham, holistic meds, his credentials, etc. and nurses all but argued over who was gonna care for new baby girl while we needed to be away momentarily. Just a sad, sad, day for future Moms to be to never have this PERFECT experience we had at Tobey. Sorry review so so long but I want to crush the many undeserved whispers, rumors of what a bunch of "inept" staff that couldn't get hired elsewhere so came to Wareham. Ask for their credential (TRIADS are very, very good), why they're here and what you will find is they like me LOVE Wareham, the water, closeness to Cape Cod and choose the lesser pay in exchange for the tighter local community feel & to not spend hours in Boston traffic. ER was very good and efficient (I am used to Hell's waiting room at Good Sam in Brockton), excellent triage, docs and nursing staff. Reg ward care was good too, no complaints...seems a very caring staff. Now for the important part, the food! Cafeteria is very small and only open nutty hours (just meal times during the week and closed on weekends which I find hard to fathom). So if you're visiting and want a coffee, you need to walk across the street to the Cumby's. When it is open, the menu is brief and its poorly staffed with one poor soul during the dinner period. But, tonight they pan sauteed to order, shrimp alfredo over angel hair to order! Great for the recipient, not so hot for the poor bastard waiting to buy a bag of chips! I had the homemade French meat pie and it was excellent, very tasty with a real lard infused pastry crust. Portions are the biggest I've had in hospital, the plate weighed well over a pound and it was $5.25 with mashed red bliss and Cali veggies. They should put a simple coffee kiosk in the ER waiting area or something, to have no refreshments at all in a place this size is ludicrous. read more

I went to the Er because my fiancé was having trouble breathing. I will give it to them they do take you in pretty fast but the staff was rude. They asked him for his emergency contact and he pointed to me and said "she is." The lady asked with an attitude who I was and he said "that's my fiancé." Then she asked if he would rather put down a family member! I'm sorry but that's unprofessional and rude! He's 28 years old and was treated like a sixteen year old. The doctor was miserable. He seemed to know his stuff though. You would think in this economy they would be more friendly because Jordan hospital isn't that far away. I agree with the last person about the Er waiting room. I had to go outside to get a drink out of a vending machine Which isn't a huge deal but it would be more convenient if they had a food and snack machine inside. All in all even though the people were miserable and rude I'd give them another try only because of their promptness. Worst hospital ever! Went in there for anxiety, they suggested it was my heart and admitted me. After thousands of dollars in testing, it was anxiety (exactly what I told them). they still wanted to put a stent in me for "preventive maintanence. WHAT?. Was there 2 years ago too for chest pain, they again said it could be my heart, it was gas (stayed there 4 days and thousands of dollars in heart testing before they figured it out). they have another hospital in Fall River that specializes in Heart surgery, coincidence? I think not. Stay away from this butcher shop. read more
