We have A LOT of trees on our property. And the yard is pretty hard to rake. The front yard is basically all garden with stone landscaping and pebble walkways. The back is a huge deck with a small yard. Raking leaves is tough and not super pleasant with this terrain. After struggling with multiple bags of leaves last year (getting soaked in the rain and falling apart to boot), my beau and I decided that we wanted nothing to do with this blasted leaf thing so I started poking around to hire someone to take care of it for us. Enter--TJ's Lawn Care! I sent them a note and asked for an estimate. He wrote me back immediately and, after a drive by of my property, sent me a totally reasonable price. We set up a tentative time and a crew of about 5 dudes rolled up with industrial blowers and took care of the mounds of leaves in about 15-20 minutes. They moved all the leaves to the a huge pile by the curb and the next morning a truck with an industrial mulcher rolled up to the curb and sucked those babies up. The lawn looked neat and tidy and we didn't have to touch a rake or a mound of wet leaves. It was perfect and worth every penny. A bill was left and I was able to quickly pay online. Easy peasy! This is the most unprofessional lawn care service I've ever had the displeasure of working with. Not only are the staff rude and untimely, they take no responsibility for items damaged and instead try to sweep them under the rug. From the damage done to our lawn edges to the severe damage done to our plumbing spout, I've had enough of this company and their excuses. NEVER pay them in advance for the year, they will take your money and show up only when you call for the hundredth time. I contacted TJ two times to pick up my leaves this fall. He was supposed to pick up mine and the house across the street. Well he picked up my neighbors but not mine and never stopped by to say why he couldn't do mine. I left him a message on his phone and he never got back to me. I WAS so happy with this company until my husband died and they were NOT loyal by returning funds that they gave us NO SERVICE for. DO NOT PRE-PAY. They always give discounts when you pre- pay. We did this for 7 years. We pre-paid for 2019 for summer. We sold our house, new residents had their own lawncare. We contacted T.J. Lawncare over and over by emails, letters, and phone messages! At first they acted like they would return our $582.00. Here it is August and still no refund. I am a retired, a widow senior and citizen citizen. We were never late for 7 years. When my husband became terminally ill we kept them for our tenants. The dollar is more important than integrity to this company My husband was 68, we had no idea they would not trustworthy. Services are reasonably priced, but beware that quality is sacrificed. The company is very unreliable. I contracted with Tom two years in a row for two visits to do leaf removal (I have lots of mature trees on my lot), and they did just one in early December when the leaves were frozen to the ground. I also prepaid in July for the fall services, which entitled me to a free spring service, like core aeration. I never got the freeby. Finally dropped the service when no one ever showed to mow the lawn. When I messaged Tom about it, he never responded. read more

Hired this company for lawnmowing services last year and did not have any issues. Called to restart services this year, and was told that I was already on their route. Did not receive a mow for two weeks, so I called them to double check, and was assured that I would receive a mow that week. One week later, no mow. Called again, and went straight to voicemail. Discovered that they had blocked my number when I called via Google Voice immediately after and they responded right away. Communicated surprise that I hadn't received a mow yet, and assured that I would get one the next day. Next day comes and goes, no mow. Called again this morning, straight to voicemail. They didn't even have the courtesy to call me with an update, and didn't have the professionalism to let me know that they either simply forgot to place me back on the schedule or didn't have room this season. Unreal lack of professionalism and follow-through. Would not have had an issue if they were communicative, but blocking my number because they didn't want to deal with it? Pathetic. read more

I hired Tom for the Fall leave cleanup in the past. When his crew came they did a great job. The mistake I made was when he offered a discount if I paid him in advance for this Fall's work. I paid him and he never came. In his emails he said that he had done work for others but just hadn't gotten to me yet. Not a great feeling to be on the bottom of the priority list. He said it was too icy for his crew to come this weekend, but that's a puzzle because there's no ice on my property. So I just spent five hours this weekend doing the job myself by hand with a rake. Quite the con... I paid him to do the work and then I end up doing it myself. read more

I've used them twice, or tried to, and this is the average of the two experiences. In Fall 2016 I had them pick up our leaves along the road and it was ok. Because we live on a very busy road with no shoulder or sidewalk and have space beside our driveway, this year I proposed collecting the leaves in a pile beside the driveway, which seemed safer for everyone. I sent a picture to be sure we were on the same page. They agreed. Then nothing happened and when I finally tracked them down I was told that they never agreed to this (this had been done by email) and that it was a bizarre idea. I think it was a misunderstanding, but the owner seemed to assume that I should know how long his hose was and that his trailer loads from the front rather than the back. Luckily there are alternatives. Should you want to use this company, my advice is to make sure you want them to do exactly what they want to do and that you don't assume that they'll do something just because they say they will. read more

I can say they were on time. The installer was very rude and did not do the job properly. Also, he did not listen as the job moving a sprinkler was crucial to the health of the plants I had put in. He then said he was going to charge me an extra 40 dollars to move it as he did not put it on the estimate. He did move it finally, after accusing me of "just wanting to argue" . He put my old spray nozzle that barely reached the last shrub....then he put another one on and it is directly in front of the middle of 5 large viburnum plants in a 18 foot area. It isn't rocket science...that is for sure. Also, the spray nozzle he put in on the east side....again 6 or 7 podicarpus....and the spray is very light and the head looked plugged, again NOT doing the job I asked them to do. Mind you this is a new or supposedly a new sprinkler spray nozzle. Now I will have to hire ANOTHER company to fix another great job done by a company that wants to make 200 dollars an hour. So what if the plants die....they are long gone. His helper was very nice and polite...I should cancel the check. I will see what the owner has to say. Probably not much I would assume. read more

What an outstanding job!!! I requested an estimate for leaf clean-up and removal. The company stopped by while I was at work, completely scraped away all the leaves and placed them in a pile. We have been working with TJ's Lawn Care for two years, now and as a year round client, I am SO pleased with their service. All the work that has been done has been excellent and any time I call for additional help, he works things our for us. Winter causes many issues and his team has been up to each one as it happens! I tried several lawn mowing services and had bad experience with all of them for a variety of reasons. They would not come for weeks at a time, they didn't respond to phone calls or emails and one stopped doing our lawn at all even though they had been paid for the whole season (I never did get the money back!). Several years ago I started using TJ's and we have never had a problem with lawn mowing or customer service. Our lawn always looks excellent when they finish. Four of our neighbors have started using TJ's and I believe that it is because of how good our lawn looks when they cut it. We also use the fall leaf cleanup service. We have several large trees in our yard and they dump a ton of leaves every year. It is a huge relief to have TJ's remove the leaves, and it is for a reasonable price. I can communicate with TJ's to let them know when the leaves are all down (as that seems to be different every year), and they come and clean them up better than I can in a very short time. read more

I contacted TJ on April 13th to aerate our lawn. He told me that it would be a week or so. Ok, no problem. On May 6th, I contacted him again since it hadn't been done yet and I hadn't heard from him. He told me that it had been very rainy which had pushed back a lot of their work, and he had 2 work days before he'd get to me. Ok, it had rained a lot, no big deal. On May 28th, I contacted him again and he told me he'd be there the next day. He didn't show up. I told him I was frustrated and disappointed, and didn't want the service anymore. He simply said "ok" without so much as an apology. Really disappointing, and now it's too late in the season to aerate because I wasted the whole window waiting for him. Update: After emailing him that I was disappointed that I didn't get an apology, he said he was sorry - sorry I couldn't wait patiently. You'd think the guy was doing me a favor, not providing a service. read more

We have used TJ's for our fall leaf cleanup for a few years now. Never any problems. Sometimes they come late, because sometimes the leaves don't fall until later, or the weather doesn't cooperate, but they always show up and get rid of all the leaves, totally spotless. read more

We have always experienced great service from TJ's Lawn Care, specifically for leaf removal. This year, not so much. This is the third year we've used them. We hired them the beginning of October. It is now the second week of December and am told they will not get to our yard for leaf removal. We called them at least 3 times, since October and every time until this week, we were told they would get to us. If they would have least let us know they were too busy, we could have made other arrangements. Now we have to wait until spring. I'm having a difficult time believing that they haven't done the yards of people that called after us. I'm giving them 2 stars because as I said, for the last 2 years we've gotten good service. I'm wondering if they are just getting too busy to provide the same level of service. All I ask is that they let us know that so we can make other arrangements other than leading us on. read more

TJ's did a GREAT job w/my fall leaf removal. This was the first year we used his service and I found TJ's on-line, though I recognized the business as I'd seen his trucks in my Burns Park neighborhood. My email request was promptly returned and was given a very reasonable quote which I accepted. In the height of the busy Fall, the week of Thanks Giving, his crew came as promised and did a spectacular job of removing my PILES of leaves from my lawn AND street gutter. I live on a corner and have many trees and I was impressed with their work and especially the cleanliness of the street. I look around my neighborhood and see all the people with lawn services who have crappy yards. So, I kept doing my own lawn. Then, I had to have surgery and would not be able to do my own lawn for months. I checked around and found TJ, who stepped up on short notice to take care of my yard while I recovered. Now I look around the neighborhood, my neighbors still have crappy lawns, and I still have the best, thanks to TJ, who is staying on even though I am physically able to do it. read more

TJ's Lawn Care is an excellent company to work with. I live on a court with six houses and we had employed another service for over two years. One week they stopped coming. That turned into two weeks. One of the houses on our court had employed TJ's for that year. I spoke to TJ about our problem and he and his crew came the next day and cut four of the houses for us. There was no hesitation from him. This was mid-July when he had many other contracts but he took us on as permanent customers. This is the mark of a true professional. He now does all six houses and I feel as if I'm living in a condo complex. We have the best looking court in Ann Arbor. We are looking forward to a long relationship with TJ and his crew. read more

We hired TJ's for leaf removal. 2014- They did a fantastic job. (Only reason this isn't a one star rating.) 2015- We had to call them to come back for leaves they left behind in all of the flower beds and under every tree. 2016 - We called several times asking when they were going to come since the season was nearly over. They promised to come on Thursday, December 8. In anticipation of their arrival, and because of the trouble they had the year before with the flower beds, we raked the leaves out of our flower beds into piles. Dec. 8, 2016- They never came. We called on the 9th and told them the piles we made would kill the grass and they needed to come. They said they ran out of time, sorry. On Saturday the 10th my spouse and I raked leaves all day as the snow came down. We only had time to take one load to the compost center. The rest await us in the spring (back in the flower beds so they won't kill the grass). 2017- We will do it ourselves, but not all in one day, and definitely not in a snow storm.
