The arts in Northern Ireland are thriving, which is a good thing, but it doesn't mean that everything that's produced is quality, which is a bad thing.
Luckily, we have companies like Tinderbox flying the flag for bloody good theatre in NI. I remember doing my work experience there and absolutely loving it.
It's a very small company, but the work they produce is generally fantastic. For instance, they once produced a play about the Troubles (they do quite a lot of that), that was staged in Crumlin Road Jail. The play was staged in different rooms around the jail and the audience were expected to move and follow the action from one end of the building to the other - brilliant!
They have a production coming up in this year's Belfast Festival, so if I were you, I'd get my tickets now. read more
