THIS IS HOW GREAT HE IS: I go in for a cleaning (pretty much) every six months and I don't dread it. In fact I look forward to it because it makes my mouth feel so good. Dr Jackson is amazing. The unique thing about Dr. Jackson's office is that they use acupressure instead of Novocaine. Oh, you can have the drug if you want it, but I felt NO PAIN with the acupressure, AND I can eat and drink immediately after any procedure requiring it. I never leave my dentist's office with a spongy cheek, drooling, etc. I LOVE THIS DENTIST'S OFFICE! As for Dr. Jackson himself, he's very nice, but I don't see much of him. I was new to the area and came in for a routine cleaning. During my exam, I noticed I had some sensitivity near my gum line. Dr. Elfers recommended a filling in that area to patch the exposed root, which I was fine with. She said that if I was coming in for one filling, I might as well have a few others done in some deep grooves I had in other teeth as a preventative measure. I was worried about this, as I was unsure if I could afford the cost. Her billing department said they ran my insurance and that my insurance would cover the entire cost of the procedures, and I would only be responsible for paying $25 out of pocket. I trusted her front office staff, and scheduled an appointment the fillings for a few weeks later. Months after my appointment, I am slammed with a dental bill for $380, when I was told it would only cost $25!! I would have never agreed to have all of this work done if I knew it was going to cost that amount! When I called to discuss this with them they said that they can't predict what the insurance will pay and that I would be responsible for the balance. I'm unsure why they initially told me that my insurance would cover the cost except for the $25 copay and they are now telling me they can't predict what the insurance will cover. Something doesn't add up. Her front office admitted to me that someone must have made a mistake when they initially gave me the quote, but are unwilling to own up to their mistake and make the situation right. Moral of the story: get EVERY billing quote in writing BEFORE you have work done with this office, or better yet go elsewhere. I see from previous reviews on Google that I am not the only person who has had an issue like this with this office. With the large amount of dental practices Hyde Park has to offer, I don't understand how they can get away with treating their patients in this way.

I had gone in for a cleaning and asked if they could round off a tooth that was poking me.... 20 minutes later, the doctor had used a putty to reshape all of my teeth to tell me how much better veneers would look on me. They also apparently had to fill all these cavities I supposedly had. My doctor was appalled at how deep they drilled for a routine cavity and now I may have to get a root canal as a result. Truly the worst type of people that only want your money and that's it. Never would recommend as a dentist. Unrelated, but when calling them just now to reschedule an appt for my boss, Google lists two different numbers and their website has a third number. Shocker, all if the numbers lead to the same time with a menu to choose from. All choices lead to someone named Tristan and it goes straight to her voicemail without ringing and once you get to the end and are waiting for the beep to leave a message, the phones hang up on you. Every single time. Literally every time I learn something new about this dental group it's always bad. Don't waste your time, money, or sanity.

I chose him because, well, he was the closest one my insurance covered. Fortuitously, this was a good choice. Dr. Luttmer has been operating as a dentist in Hyde Park Square for decades now. He's a staple of the community and operates an excellent dentist office. The clerical team calls to remind when a cleaning is due and calls to remind the day before of an appointment. When I arrive at the appointment time, I'm almost always seated within minutes. I typically schedule cleanings during my lunch hour and usually have a few minutes to spare. The hygienists are quick, friendly & efficient & Dr. Luttmer always checks their work with a smile. The office has multiple chairs & generally pretty busy. Smart staffing & scheduling keeps everything moving along efficiently. The office is somewhat modern, though the chairs have a vintage deco vibe. Parking is pay lot or street meter generally and can sometimes require a walk given the busyness of the square. Dr. Luttmer get's a full recommendation as an excellent choice for a regular dentist for the Hyde Park/Oakley/Norwood area. Convenient, fast & friendly are as much as you could ask for in a dentist's office.
