Regrettably, attempts to reach Dr. Randall via calls or texts have been unfruitful, prompting me to share my experience on Yelp. Initially drawn to the ortho practice for its proximity, I underwent Invisalign treatment. However, Dr. Randall's high-pressure tactics became evident, pressuring me into unnecessary cleanings and modifying my treatment plan
I went here for the first time for an ortho visit almost two years ago and my overall impression was mediocre. When I was researching ortho practices who do in Invisalign in my area, there are only a handful and I settled here because of the convenience and close proximity to my home. My family dentist who I will never leave is in Newport so I didn't want an Ortho that far since it would require more frequent visits.
I've never had braces before and have a limited understanding of the process. So, I trusted the doctor since this is his profession. Invisalign's process is almost so simple almost anyone can do it like Smile does from home. However, Dr. Randall suggested we don't do the recommended spacing reducing the spacing .05 mm and modified the prep work of taking off .03 mm my front bottom teeth. He comforted me by letting me know we can make changes as we go and that was the beauty of coming into the office.
There was my first indicator that going to the office was where I would receive his high pressure tactics. After every orthodontic appointment, he would schedule me for a teeth cleaning. I already was under the care of another dentist who I have no plans of leaving. For years now, I usually go for regular checkups every six months since my teeth are doing pretty good. Shortly, after going in for cleaning he started scheduling me every four months since my teeth were all the sudden not doing well. I thought this step was necessary because of the Invisalign so I obliged and even paid out of pocket since my insurance did not cover the additional visits.
After 6 months of treatment everything was
supposed to done. My teeth moved and I was satisfied overall. Unfortunately, my retainers were not made correctly, I couldn't even talk right when they were in my mouth my teeth started moving back and it took weeks to get the new ones made. Unfortunately, this required another mouth scan and the computers through the process did not work right according to Dr Randall. After the scan, Invisalign suggested another 3.5 months of aligners. Well guess what Dr Randall did? Yup you guessed it, he modified the treatment again and only approved a month of new aligners. I was then not very happy but complied since I would have to start over a where else and pay all over again. He assured me this issue was all warranty work and was covered. But, I had to come in the office again to get my aligners.
During each visit we would talk about life and I learned he likes to take long vacations and travel which is totally cool. However, when he would ask me to bring my wife with me I started to notice more that he wanted to be more than my orthodontic dentist. He wanted us both to be under his full care for general and ortho so stringing me along for warranty work means that he can book me for more teeth cleaning.
I didn't bring my wife since she was receiving treatment elsewhere for braces and we see the same general dentist. She came with me one time to pick up my retainers and he came out to look at her teeth in the waiting room. Make your own assessment of this but I think it's tacky and weird.
Upon my last visit where I received all my last retainers that should last four years, unnoticed by me he schedule another visit. I started getting text messages from the office that said I had an apt. Unfortunately it looked like spam and I disregarded. Then, one day I realized that the messages were from Dr Randall Ortho not my family dentist named Dr Randall as well. So, I replied "no" and he replied that there will be a fee for canceling the apt. All along I've been patient and dealt with his high pressure crap but this was upsetting.
I opened my mail the day after Christmas and there it was an invoice 90 days over due for a missed apt for $62 with a statement date of 12/20. He knew what he was doing sending me the invoice five days before Christmas. I figured if Dr Randall is so greedy that he would send me an erroneous bill for $62 I would make it worth it for me and write a review on Yelp. In sharing this, my aim is to caution others against engaging with this orthodontist and to shed light on what appears to be a profit-driven approach rather than genuine patient concern. read more
