    The Hopkins Law Firm

    The Hopkins Law Firm

I would NOT recommend this law firm. Long story, short. Their associate I initially "interviewed"…read moreknew all the right things to say to convince me she was an ideal attorney and how I should not have to put up with my abusive husband physically, sexually, verbally, and financially. He also gave their associate and paralegal a hard time regarding a zip file of all his financials and challenged her about their internet security. He is the mastermind of network security, and the associate ended up apologizing to my lying husband! And then she had to tell my spouse to not harass the paralegal Keep in mind he is a classic narcissist and told me repeatedly that's she was a piece of $hit and how I should fire her. I shared this info with her and she reassure me that he was just angry. She charged me for every single email she reviewed about my concerns and her email responses, calls I made crying to her. Nothing she said or did had any effect on my spouse. She was aware of all the trauma I endured, pretending to care about the abuse, having me send all pictures of the abuse to my face and video footage that my daughter took of him, and still charging me for looking at every single evidence making me believe she was building my case to present in court that she never ended up using. Invoices had more "reviewed" this and scrub through that, many which she couldn't keep track nor remember. Double charges. we did an informal discovery, too. Tried to establish a fair PSA, which my spouses attorney drew up, and anything I didn't agree with just costed more money to make minor changes that did NOT appear in the final document. Again, thousands of dollars of providing her all the evidence she needed to prepare to file with the court, only she had no intention of ever using them, but she sure as hell charged me. I even wrote to the spouse of Hopkins Law firm complaining about everything this associate has been doing and that it shouldn't take over 11/12k for for a damn PSA she really didn't fight for me on. Guess what happened? That email ended up right back into the hands of my associate attorney!!! And she was not happy. She argued how she had been there for me during the whole process. On numerous occasions I warned her that I was nearly becoming low on funds to keep up with replenishing my account for her work. She kept telling me that it would only cost another $1,000.00 to finish it up and lone it turned into nearly an additional 3k. Guess what happened? Her whole demeanor changed toward the end and she became mean and frustrated with me and she finally turned on me telling me I did not contribute anything to the marriage, and that then PSA was fair. My spouse use to give me 3k a month allowance to buy groceries, upkeep of our daughter both personal stuff and medical, then he kept reducing the amount to the point he threatened to not give me anymore money at all for me or my daughter. So she had to place a $1,500.00 stipend, which did not nearly cover most bills. Also, I had been on social security disability for years! I have taken care of my daughter for years while she was under psychiatric care from witnessing the abuse. I have contributed in qvarious ways! The associate was cold and rude. All that money and not a leg to stand on. Even my spouse's attorney said she was bleeding me dry with nothing to show. She couldn't believe how much I paid her and I soon became the laughing stalk with the Opposing counsel. The Owners husband did absolutely nothing. And when I demanded to have Mrs. Hopkins to take over my case, I was told that I would have to pay her fees of 350 per hour!!! Oh!! There were charges on my invoice that did not belong to me. They argued that two transactions on my invoice were indeed mine, and I had argue that I never had a young son who went to school and email correspondence on that same day. They said they would research it and get back to me. While waiting for them to make the corrections and get back to me, next thing I knew I was being sent to collections for none payment for services that were never done. I even asked them if the particular charges regarding the young child and correspondence were removed, the woman said the child was but I was still responsible for the correspondence that same day. I argued that no such emails were sent to me on that services rendered day. So now I wondered how many errors could have been on all my invoices. But any issues you may have with Hopkins Associates, its your word against Hopkins Law Firm. And get this! I recently learned that the associate is no longer with Hopkins! But boy were they were still after me for final charges that were a bit over $1,200.00 and still have nothing to show!!! Stay far away from this firm! They will bleed you dry financially. They are not interested in fighting for your rights, legally.

Michael, The way you…read morecommunicate with/about others is still appalling and your information here is simply factually incorrect. Right up front: My invention has already been worked by another (more capable?) firm WITHOUT my needing to do anything else to it -- so Mike's comments about the invention having enablement issues or about my finances (really dude???) were obviously off-base and just an attempt to try to divert attention away from his failure to earn my business because he speaks TO people and ABOUT people...well...like he just did. Since there seems to be some confusion, I can provide screenshots of emails if you'd like, Mike. Let's step through your comment: 1) "Helped this guy for months with no money and even gave him a free NDA." False. Your statement is misleading because it makes it seem like you guys were doing work for me...which you weren't. After INITIAL CONSULT your attorney kept asking me for additional paperwork -- asking me to put information I had already given him into different worksheets. I wanted to move things along, but I was told you guys needed more information in a different format. I complied but being asked constantly for information without specifying what else you needed to be able to take action is what delayed things and strung things along for months. OF COURSE I HADN'T PAID YOU!! I DIDN'T RETAIN YOU! YOU HADN'T DONE ANYTHING! We were still in the consult phase and couldn't seem to break out of it. The free NDA? I offered a NDA but agreed to use your firm's -- don't act like you guys did me a huge favor or threw me a freebie. 2) That impossible to patent invention you speak of? You know...the one that was impossible for NOVA IP because I lack the ability to pay, describe how to make my idea work as an enabled invention, or both? That same application conversion was worked - without issue - by another firm...with EASE. That should tell you something, Yelpers! 3) Mike, read your own admission: You told me "we would stick with the conversion price QUOTED." Yeah...that's what you're SUPPOSED TO DO. You didn't "waive an additional cost." You deciding not to change the terms of a previous agreement (like you tried to do but I called you on) is not a selling point or a gift to me...reliability and being true to your word is an EXPECTATION. 4) I was actually willing to move forward from what I was willing to chalk up to a miscommunication (but, again, looked a lot like your firm trying to change the terms of a previous agreement -- AFTER having been given all of the information to base that quote on -- because you thought you saw an opportunity to try to get more money). After that, I said I wanted to take a step back and shop my invention to other firms. Thank God I did! Minutes later you decided to inject yourself into an email string between me and your attorney to weigh in with unprofessional content (language that seemed to be intended to intimidate or insult me -- you accomplished neither and just cemented my decision to RUN from NOVA IP, warn other consumers of how your firm does business, and how YOU choose communicate...though you seem to do a pretty good job of making my point in your comment). I left your name out of my review but since you commented and included your name, you PERSONALLY earned the heck out of these reviews, Mike [and you kinda keep earning them with the insult-riddled emails you send me -- With that: Stop emailing me]. Yelpers, if I lacked the money to pay or the patentable invention, then how did another firm take the info and run with it so easily? Maybe the opposite is true and NOVA IP doesn't have the analytic bench or sufficient understanding of patent law to take an inventor's concept and create a solid patent application? Idk. Or maybe...just maybe...Mike was incredibly rude, patronizing, and disrespectful and he lost my business as a result. For anyone who is on the fence about whether or not to do business with NOVA IP, just take a look at his comment!!! This guy is supposed to be a consummate professional deserving of your money and WORTHY of your trust...but he goes to a public forum and (including my last name) calls me ignorant, tries to call my finances into question, and says that my honest review was both stupid and unfair (let's see if he edits any of the name-calling out!). If you want to give your hard-earned money to someone who speaks to people like that and tries to change the terms of agreements late in the game, you're on your own! All I can do is share with you my experience. I hope that you'll spare yourself the heartache of engaging with NOVA IP. Months after stepping away from their firm (THANK GOD), I'm needing to update Yelp reviews at 11pm on a Sunday just to try to keep Mike's misleading replies from obfuscating the truth or causing someone to make the mistake of doing business with NOVA IP... BTW -- Hey Mike, why did you feel it was professionally appropriate to list my last name?
