I've been with OPSM for a long time, although this isn't my usual store, although some of the optometrists working here are ones I've seen before. I was greeted by one of the staff who offered to help me choose some frames, and I ended up booking in for a check up (I was due), and they had an appointment in ten minutes time, perfect! The check is free, but they DO charge $60 for the photograph of your eyes. It's completely optional, but if you have certain medical conditions it's good to get that stuff checked out. The optometrist was lovely and thorough, and I also got a free trial of some contact lenses, a new type that are far more comfortable to those I'd previously had. In the end I came away ordering some new glasses, as well as covering them for damage and loss, well worth it in case I break these ones too! Look, I know there's places offering full sets of prescription glasses for next to nothing, and if I wore them only sometimes I'd probably do that, but for all day every day, I want nice, comfortable, hard wearing frames that I like the look of, and OPSM have a great range, and throw in your UV protection, scratch protection, thinner lenses, and all of a sudden that $100 pair isn't really any less than what OPSM are charging. Certainly can't complain about this store, it's a good one!

On the way to my hairdresser I took a punt and dropped into Val Ray. I'm so glad I did. Friendly staff, pleasant attitide, not pushy, full of options. I took a photo of a couple of watches I liked and then whilst getting my haircut, did some online comparisons. Val Ray prices were very competitive so in the end I decided to give them my money rather than some anonymous internet vendor. I also know if there is ever any issues, they will help me out, no problems at all.

I rang Val Ray, expecting a similar response from jewellers I had contacted as far afield as Sth Aus. What a difference, the casual helpful attitude in reply to my enquiries was not what I expected. I received a call back within twenty minutes which fully explained why I was having the difficulties I experienced. I had even spoken to Seiko in Sydney, when I mentioned Val Ray it was clear Seiko did a lot of business with them. Consequently I sealed the deal with Val Ray for a genuine Seiko Sportura It was the best price I had received in two wasted days on the web minefield. They asked if I was browsing for anything in particular, and I told them I was looking for a 21st birthday present for my sister, which isn't for another 6 months so I was simply gaging what they had. Lie. Complete lie. But I wanted to avoid the hard-sell. The assistant was lovely and left me to potter around in the store unattended. The jewellery in Lannah Dunn is stunning. Simple, elegant and stunning. It's a mixture of antique and new pieces with something for everyone. I am a huge fan of their monogram rings and was secretly (and selfishly) shopping for one for myself. They are super reasonable in price starting at $89 for a small silver ring, and upgrades in price according to the size of the face and whether you go for silver, gold or white gold. These would make for an affordable and memorable gift for any young woman. Whether you're shopping for an engagement ring, a present or something special to spoil yourself, Lannah Dunn have a gorgeous range worthy of a swoon. The staff are lovely, and not at all as forward as some other unmentionable jewellery stores. I needn't have told that little lie after all!

There's almost nothing they can't fix, from rebuilding complex watch movements to simply replacing batteries and repairing watch bands. Tucked away at the rear of a small shopping arcade in Toowong, it's one of those "if you know, you know" places but given its longevity it seems that plenty of people do know it and appreciate the craftsmanship when it comes to taking care of one's timepieces. I, and I'm sure many others, hope this place continues to thrive for years to come, and with the owner's son now working there, let's hope the legacy continues as I would be lost with RW Harrold Watchmaker as my "go to" for horological help!

As a manufacturing jeweller, they can repair and make jewellery on site and when it comes to repairs, are almost half the price of most other places I've gotten quotes at. They do a fantastic job in no time at all and are very friendly and helpful.

So recently, when I had a piece of jewellery needing to be resized I was thankful for my sister's recommendation that I take my ring to Delross Design. Located within the Everton Park Shopping Complex, the store itself doesn't look like much but didn't your Mother ever teach you not to judge a book by its cover? There are a few pieces of jewellery for sale but most of the action seems to happen in their on-site workshop. The service I received was outstanding. My ring was resized and delivered back on the date they said they would and I personally consider the price to have been quite reasonable given the work entailed. I'll happily be returning for any ongoing care, cleaning or resizing I might need in the future.

Being a bit of a rockhead, I've had a couple of rings designed around stones that we've bought at the gem shows and overseas. One in particular is a work of art. That's fairly high end stuff, but I've also bought reasonably priced jewellery and watches here as gifts and had my own repaired more than once. It's a great, friendly family run business.
