When entering the store the first thing that bothered me was, you walk into a maise a never ending complex of dead end ailes that lead no where. Eventually I ended up at the bread counter. I asked for a loaf of whole wheat, oh we don't sell that was the reply. Ok then I'll have just a loaf of white bread we don't sell that was the reply. So I said what do you sell, anyway I endit up with a loaf of 9 grain & a sour dough loaf. At $4.00 each !!!. Way too much for small loafs of bread. In the mean time I had lost my wife, she was somewhere in the maise of aisles. Anyway I won't be going back there. A bad selection of expensive breads and bazzar store layout. I would give VBS a *** rating only because the place looked clean.

I ordered a dozen fresh ones and they were fantastic. I also bought day-old cupcakes and there were also fantastic! Don't shun the day-olds! It's a very cozy venue, but not crowded. All of the tables were clean and the large windows let lots of natural light in. I had a coffee while I waited and they brought me a housemade marinara sauce and flatbread. Delightful! It was warmed up and had a little heat; I could've eaten the whole thing, but I had to leave room for my sandwich. Their coffee is fantastic; it comes from a local roaster called Trebilock.The kaiser was fresh and the pork was slow-cooked to perfection. The coleslaw on the sandwich was a nice twist. It was crisp and saucy, just how I like it. It was a great meal. I'd love to try their other sandwiches! I'm not done! I got a combo, so it's cupcake time! So many choices, but their Facebook posts convinced me the try the Cupcake of the Month. Each month they have a creative cupcake featured that you must try. From all of their cupcakes I've tried, my favourites are Red Velvet, Banana Chip, Maple Bacon, Chocolate Mint and Vanilla. I haven't tried them all, but I haven't had one I didn't like! The warm weather is coming, so I know I'll be back for their Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream! A welcome addition to Whitby. It's got great food and friendly service. They will make you a cupcake junkie!

My friend had the Chicken Caesar Wrap and that looked and tasted good. Of course, we couldn't be in a pastry shop without trying their delicious looking pastries. A pineapple topped bun caught my eye with its bright yellow colour. It was delicious and I ate the whole thing! My companion had a selection of pastries, mostly chosen by her young daughter. They were good, too! Tina's Portuguese Cuisine shares the space with them, offering more substantial meals. They specialize in Portuguese chicken and other favourites, with catering available. My friend tried their Shepherd's Pie. It was a generous serving that resulted in leftovers. While I usually prefer a more substantial meal for lunch, this food was good. I'll definitely come back for their fresh breads and pastries!

The icing we had ordered was butter cream icing, and that icing had no butter cream taste, it was grainy texture of sugar icing, very disappointing. We had chosen the floral decoration of mixed colours and that was just so so, we had seen much better. A couple of days ago before the pick up date I had left a phone message requesting a change to the writing on the cake. I even phoned very early on the pick up date to make sure that the message was received. Guess what....nothing was changed...wonder if the cake was even freshly baked. Would I go back? Probably not.
