Having never ever been to Newfoundland and knowing it's more sparsely populated than the major metropolitan centers in Canada, we weren't sure if we were going to find a place to eat at 8pm. The nice folks at a gas station recommended we stop in the town of Clarenville since Rod's Restaurant would probably still be open. When we arrived in town, we saw Tai Hong. Strange, a Chinese restaurant in these parts. Let's give it a try! 3 out of the 4 of us opted for the buffet. Not surprisingly, the menu was more American...errr...Canadian-Chinese food. Surprisingly everything was good and fresh! I particularly loved the chicken wings which were perfectly seasoned and deep fried with a light batter. Service was A+++. The owner came out to our table and said if we wanted any more particular buffet items, they'd make more on request. How nice considering it was almost closing time! The one person who opted not to do the buffet, ordered sweet & sour chicken off the menu. The waitress noticed she hadn't made much of a dent in the dish and asked if anything was wrong. She said it was too sweet for her liking. The waitress came back and said the owner didn't want her to leave hungry so she can grab whatever she wanted from the buffet! Anyway...if by some miracle I'm back in Clarenville, Newfoundland, I'm definitely stopping by here again!
