But as someone who has travelled and lived around New Zealand off and on for the past decade it is a great step and a nice option to have available. A little more pizazz in the spiced meats department and some variety in the imported hot sauce section could really fix this place right up. But I enjoyed a meal here with a great friend. There are your breakfast classics: muesli or french toast, but the rest of the menu features eclectic specialty items that are impeccably prepared: Mexican Salad, Duck Liver, French Sardines, vegetarian options or the Gourmet Croque Madame. The croque madame was served on thick slices of bread with prosciutto "really good cheese" (their words, not mine), mustard all drowned in truffle oil with a fried egg on top. If you're not a true fan of truffle oil, this sandwhich will be a bit overwhelming by the second half, but the first half will be amazing. I ate every bite. The large hot breakfast looked like something straight from a mexican restaurant: Mushrooms, potatoes with jalapeños, tomatoes, a fried egg. My husband licked the plate clean and said this is one of his all time favorite meals in Christchurch (he didn't even save me a bite).
