The layout and selection of items were very similar to what we're used to back home in Chicago. We stopped in for a late afternoon lunch or perhaps an early dinner, but unfortunately, the meal was underwhelming. My husband ordered the ribs, which arrived overcooked and dry. I had the tortellini, which was just okay and only slightly warm. The waiter was friendly. Perhaps it was just an off day for the kitchen, but overall, the food didn't quite live up to the Eataly name we're familiar with.

I had dinner at a pasta shop which was good, but not great, chicken was dry, rest was decent food. Got pastries from bakery to go that were really good.

Garibaldi is considered to be one of Italy's "founding fathers" and is held in high regard. I love grocery stores in foreign countries and this is more like a little neighborhood market. It doesn't have a whole lot of items, but they have everything you need. Great place to come stock up on beer and wine to take back to your hotel or on the train. Much cheaper prices since this is where the locals shop, not tourists. Also a fun place to buy local candies and sweets.

It's the closest thing I've seen to an American-style supermarket in Italy, and the prices are good. And, before or after shopping, you can head up to the roof of the complex to check out FIAT's test track, which is still maintained, though no longer used, as one and offers great views of Turin and the neighborhood.

Sadly not many independent shops are left in Turin these days. Only about twenty years or so ago…read moreyou could find an amazing array of independent shops from glove makers, milliners and so on. De Wan is one of the very few left with a proper cachet, in the most desirable shopping area of the centre of Turin. Location aside this is the ultimate gift shop, with an outstanding selection of high quality gifts, from custom jewellery, watches, scarves to pictures and more. I make a point of buying something from this shop every time I visit Turin and I have never been disappointed. Their service is excellent and the assistants go out of the way to please and spend time with you. This has the inevitable result that you end up buy more than you had bargained for, but hey, it's good stuff (and not even outrageously expensive for what it is) and a guaranteed hit when you get back to the UK. Anyway, we should support shops like these where quality, individual service and old fashioned values are still high on their agenda, so give it a try when you are in Turin.
