Vastly superior to Travelodges though sometimes almost as cheap, or even cheaper when they offer special deals (three nights for the price of two, etc). The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable, with plenty of storage and a superior standard of furniture and fittings. Our room had a telephone, large flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities with lots of teabags, hot chocolate and fresh biscuits each day. In addition to the large bed was a plush two-seater settee. The en-suite had a large power shower and, again, the tiling and fittings were of a high standard for a budget hotel. There's a modern lift to rooms (very good disabled access), beautiful carpets and curtains, and a foyer with local information and a sweets and chocolate machine. Breakfast came free with the room rate and was served across a short walkway in the Jack Rabbit pub. It consisted of a continental-style buffet with an excellent choice of cereals, fruit juices, fresh fruit, yoghurt, breads, toast, preserves and croissants. A machine provided good quality teas or coffees. You can eat as much as you wish and there are helpful staff on hand to assist if need be. A free newspaper (Daily Mail) was also available each day. All in all, a superb value package at only £89 for 3 nights (the special offer this month)! Certainly a chain to watch - there are 200 branches around the country and more planned.

My wife and I have just returned from a short stay here, having had a longer holiday last summer…read more It is situated a few mins walk from a small cove a few miles west of Salcombe, and almost on the SW Coastal path, a really nice quiet setting. For first timers woud be not so easy to find, turning off at Malborough on the main road approaching Salcombe. Everything here exudes quality, and though it comes at a price, its worth every penny. Rooms are large , comfortable and many have sea views. Staff go out of their way to be helpful, and everything is considered down to the last detail , eg no 'plastic milk' with the tea making kit - you can ask for proper milk and it will come immediately. Also proper ground coffee and a cafetiere. But these are details. Dinner is always first class, usually with the day menu having a choice of 3 or 4 starters and mains, but there are a few extra alternatives if the day menu doesnt take your fancy. Highlight of the week is the lamb, roasted whole having been reared, killed and supplied by the Maitre d' Luis, at his local smallholding. Breakfast is also excellent. Hotel is owned by Keith Makepeace, who always makes a point of chatting with new guests at dinner time. We spent most of our time walking the coastal paths, this is the thing to do if weather is good -its about 10 miles return to Salcombe, and in opposite direction to Hope Bay

Just off the A38 from Exeter, it was perfect located just a few miles from the hospital It's right next door to a Beefeater restaurant, where the breakfasts are served. Parking can be tight in the evening due to the restaurant. An alternative for food is to nip to the large Sainsbury supermarket just across the road Check in was quick and efficient and the staff were always there with a cheerful greeting every time I walked past reception My room was large with a comfortable bed. I think they're trying to go upmarket a little with a choice of firm pillows on the bed with softer pillows available in the cupboard. I don't have above high expectations but at £133 for 2 nights I don't expect mould, dust and a broken bed. This place ruined my weekend away and they were so quick to grab my money when I left a day early and said I was going to complain to booking.com. The owners are obviously as tired and worn out as their building so keep clear and don't believe the hype on trip advisor!

We didnt stay there, but have twice called in for a quick lunch after having walked along the coastal path from Soar Mill Cove Hotel (qv), and passing Point Light Hotel (qv). We enjoyed lunch on a large sun terrace in front of the hotel. Food was excellent and well presented. Recommended. Posted room rates semmed very competitive, we may consider staying here in the future.
