Before leaving for Paris, I Googled English theatre in Paris and up came a website of Theatreinparis.com. The website described a play at the Théâtre Édouard VII called The Prize. I ordered my ticket and it was emailed to me with instructions about coming 1/2 hour before the show for a small introduction to the theatre and the play.
The theatre is very nice. It opened in 1913 and appears to be an active theatre spot in Paris. On entering the theatre on the left as the ticket said, a woman was waiting at a table with a sign that welcomed English speaking guests. She had our tickets which were our programs.
Because a group was late in coming, her introduction was abbreviated but we had time to get to our seats.
It was interesting to hear the murmur when the English supra-titles first appeared at the beginning of the play. As the actors did their work, we could read the English text of what they were saying and enjoy the comedy. Sometimes I laughed before the audience because they might display two lines of dialogue in English before the actor delivered both lines.
If you want to do something in Paris most people don't and you want to do what a Parisian might do, this program is for you. It was a fun evening and I do it again! read more
