Let me establish a context for this review. We have eaten at some of the best restaurants in France…read more(e.g., Jamin, L'Esperance) as well as North America (e.g., The Maisonette, Charley Trotter's, Truffle, Silk). We do not think of ourselves as food snobs BUT we do appreciate quality ingredients that are carefully prepared. Now for our story. We arrived in Provence the evening of October 2, 2019 tired and hungry. We found this restaurant and the menu looked intriguing. Not many items (4-5 appetizers, 4-5 main courses, 4-5 desserts). We decided to give it a try, knowing that posted menu items can be delightful or mundane, depending on the care and quality of the chef. It would be an understatement to say that we were blown away. We were so impressed that we made reservations to return on October 8 to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The meal, yet again, was absolutely incredible. We ordered a more expensive tasting menu as we wanted a cheese course. We thought that meant choosing one of the options on the menu. However, that was not the case. The chef-owner asked if we had any food allergies or aversions and then went back and prepared food that was not on the menu. Including a couple of courses above and beyond the tasting menu we ordered. In two nights, we had nine courses. Each course was lovingly prepared with fresh, high quality ingredients. While I cannot single out a course that was head and shoulders above the others, that is because all of them were exquisite. Personally, I loved the smoked salmon appetizer as well as the zucchini palate teaser. A special dessert cake for our second trip also was to die for. In my opinion, while the menu options are small, the quality of the preparation makes this place a very affordable alternative to some of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Should we find ourselves back in Apt, we definitely will dine there again.

Instantly we became big fans... so much we ended up coming in three to four time a week. The menu happens to be set, however, David, the owner, will accommodate to whatever your needs may be. This was incredible as we had our three children with us!! (Yes this place is very kid friendly) The wine selection is fabulous and they do have a full bar! Overall our experience was amazing and we will definitely be going back when we return next Summer! He had the lamb and a chocolate molten cake while I had the chèvre salad, cod and creme brûlée. They were more than happy to help me know what I can and cannot eat for my gluten allergy. Situated in one of the most beautiful, hilltop villages in the Luberon is a new concept restaurant & coffee house by famous Chef Andrew Goldsby - owner of the former Michelin recommended gastronomic restaurant 'La Petite Cave' which he closed this season to search for a more balanced lifestyle and return to basics in his cuisine. His new 'Le Petit Café', only 40 meters up the road from his former restaurant is a refreshing new option for brunch or lunch in the Luberon. His dishes are inspired by market fare as well as what's growing in the village garden - tended to by the local shepherd. Sounds quaint which it is, but the plates are also sophisticated while being simple and sans pretension. Certainly not a tourist trap... Finally a place to have lunch outside the classic French lunch hour ! At the uncommon hour of 3 pm I enjoyed a Mediterranean wrap full of goodies - locally made tapenade, grilled peppers, feta cheese served with the most delicious home-made French fries. Beautiful tapas was enjoyed by the couple next to us. Lunch was only 14 € with a coca cola in a glass bottle...a bargain for such tasty food. Colorful, Van Goghisque art work for sale on the wall by a local artist caught my eye as well as prints by a photographer who has captured dramatic images from Saignon and the surrounding countryside. There's much more going on in this unspoilt village than meets the eye... The affordable menu is presented on ardoise black boards and food preparation in the open kitchen can be admired from the counter or dining area.
