Really great food! We came here on Juneteenth after leaving a celebration. We did have a…read morereservation and I highly recommend you make one. The wait wasn't too bad even though the restaurant was packed and every table was filled. I ordered the Fried chicken with collard greens and Mac n cheese. The fried chicken was exquisite. It tasted like it had been brined for 24-hours so definitely appreciated that. The collard greens had some vinegar on it and it was sooo good! The Mac n cheese was good as well but it was probably the weaker item of the other food on the plate. The biscuit was good and flaky and tasted even better with the strawberry butter. The oxtails with the red beans and rice was good, but the fried chicken was better. The bread pudding was good but different. I'm used to bread pudding being served hot with vanilla or butter pecan ice cream sitting on top of it. Their bread pudding was served cold with a whipped substance on top. It was okay, but I wouldn't have gotten it if I knew they served it cold. Would've been much better heated up.

Fried deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, fried fish, fried chicken, etc. The food is fine, but not particularly flavorful. I ordered the Fried Fish, which comes with cornmeal crusted fish, corn fritters, and two sides for $26. A little pricey, but at least the servings were large, and I had leftovers to take home. I like that there are free drink refills. I am not a fan of their seating policy. Once you are seated, the clock starts with 90 minutes to dine. Even though the restaurant was not full, some of us decided to wait to be seated until more people arrived because we didn't want the 90 minute clock to start. The seating policy is very strict and does not provide leeway when the restaurant isn't fully occupied.

The interior does look nice, they updated it a lot but still kept some of the wood features from before, which I liked. That said, the service and overall customer experience definitely needs improvement. We stood in the lobby for quite a while with no clear direction. It wasn't obvious whether we were supposed to wait somewhere specific or if a hostess was coming, so there was a lot of confusion until someone finally let us know there was a wait. Once we were seated, it also took a long time for our waitress to come over. By the time she did, we'd already had plenty of time to look over the menu and knew exactly what we wanted. When I asked a few questions while placing my order, she seemed a bit irritated, which didn't feel very welcoming. As for the food, everything on the menu felt overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. We ordered a variety of items to try different things. The cinnamon sweet potato pancakes were definitely the standout, they were really good. The grits bowl was good, However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. It was just one biscuit for $6, no meat at all, and the gravy tasted a bit off. Overall, the pricing for breakfast felt steep, and I was honestly a little taken aback by it. The mimosas were delicious, but again, not quite worth the price point for me. Nothing I had really stood out enough to make me feel like I have to come back for it, which was disappointing because I wanted to love this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, so I might give it another try to see what the hype is about, but as of now, it was just okay. Solid three stars.

So I gobbled my food down & forgot to take a picture‍! I'm going back just so I can get the story…read moreabout Annie Mae's Kitchen & see if she was there when I came. The food was deeeelicioouussss! I finally found a place in Detroit with food that tastes like my grandmama or auntie cooked it. Nothing was over seasoned or over salted. Everything was just good. I only purchased sides because to me, that is the proof of good food at a place like Annie's. Some people just through the sides together & only focus on the mains; Annie's puts love in the sides too. I had green beans (seasoned the old way with smoked meat in it & has potatoes too), cornbread dressing that wasn't dry or mushy (like Godilocks says "it was just right"), Mac n cheese (I ate mine room temp & it was still good so I know it's da bomb hot), and I had the peach cobbler. The cobbler was good but it had more cinnamon than I like & it wasn't juicy; but if I had some vanilla ice cream (omg) that would have made it perfect too. I'm not even mad about the cobbler because the crust to peach ratio was on point & it's a VERY good crust! I really wanted banana pudding but they were out, so there is another reason for me to go back. Tomorrow I'm going to get a fish dinner for date night with my hubby; & get him a chicken dinner. Anyway, if you don't eat at Annie Mae's Kitchen, you need too. I'll update with photos.

Initially we were not sure if it was open because the parking lot looked empty, but we saw the "OPEN" sign and decided to try it... and are so glad we did I ordered the fried chicken wings (with 2 sides) and got yams and greens. The greens were so freaking good! But they do have meat in them so keep that in mind. The chicken was hot and had just the right amount of seasoning. Yams were really good but a little too sweet for me so I couldn't finish (although I enjoyed them). My kids shared 2 plates of the fried chicken (5 wings per meal) and got Mac and cheese and greens. They loved the greens but didn't love the macaroni and cheese. They are picky and didn't like the seasoning on the mac and cheese. My husband ordered BBQ salmon and got greens and yams. He loved the greens but yams were a bit too sweet for him. He said the salmon was good but he prefers it medium well instead of well done. It took about 30 mins to come out but it was worth the wait! Overall, the food was delicious and we would come back again. The portions were generous!

The dining was not a typical dine in restaurant bit very spacious. Orders placed at the kiosks or counter. Meals served in carryout containers and utensils which is probably why the cost is very reasonable. The food was very hot, fresh and de-licious!!! Just like mama's food. We had leftovers. My brother's sides was not right but they had problem correcting it. The man who took our orders, checked on us several times making sure everything was good. Definitely will return!
