I'm not sure what make you think it's ok to do this as if we the customer don't know the difference between catfish and tilapia. I Never complained about the greens but y'all put too many stems in the green, this is not all that's in the small portion I was given. This is not how you retain customer. There used to be another gentleman that handled and ran things better than this, if you all don't put some respect on the entire customer experience the doors will close. I'll rather drive to 7 mile and Hayes to Lape and be satisfied than come here again and continue to leave disappointed, hungry, and feel like I waste my money. The last time I came I said it would be the last time coming , for sure today was my last dime spent with southern smokehouse. I will say the service was really good today, over the phone and in person.

On arrival, the hosts were prompt to greet our group and assist us with sitting. I will say the kitchen moves quickly. This is excellent especially if you come before a game or concert. The setting is modern with some Motown favorites! They do have the main dining area and bar with seating as well as a back dining and bar area. There are an assortment of drinks - kool aids to alcoholic beverages as well as assortment of entrées. All dishes that came out looked delicious. At the table we started with the deep fried deviled eggs and fried tomatoes- wonderful and unique dishes. We had an assortment of dishes from the chicken tenders, chicken sandwich, chicken and waffles, fish nuggets and burger. The chicken and waffle was divine! The sandwich and chicken and waffle are good to share- portions are a nice size. We tried a variety of sides the yams, rice and beans, fries, collard greens, and cornbread muffins. I will say personally some items were too sweet or salty for me but others enjoyed. When feeling in the mood for southern dish, I'd check this place out.

The interior does look nice, they updated it a lot but still kept some of the wood features from before, which I liked. That said, the service and overall customer experience definitely needs improvement. We stood in the lobby for quite a while with no clear direction. It wasn't obvious whether we were supposed to wait somewhere specific or if a hostess was coming, so there was a lot of confusion until someone finally let us know there was a wait. Once we were seated, it also took a long time for our waitress to come over. By the time she did, we'd already had plenty of time to look over the menu and knew exactly what we wanted. When I asked a few questions while placing my order, she seemed a bit irritated, which didn't feel very welcoming. As for the food, everything on the menu felt overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. We ordered a variety of items to try different things. The cinnamon sweet potato pancakes were definitely the standout, they were really good. The grits bowl was good, However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. It was just one biscuit for $6, no meat at all, and the gravy tasted a bit off. Overall, the pricing for breakfast felt steep, and I was honestly a little taken aback by it. The mimosas were delicious, but again, not quite worth the price point for me. Nothing I had really stood out enough to make me feel like I have to come back for it, which was disappointing because I wanted to love this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, so I might give it another try to see what the hype is about, but as of now, it was just okay. Solid three stars.

Thankfully, there wasn't much of a wait, but your entire party needs to be present before being seated. I ordered the Ultimate Catdaddy and was happy with my food. I recommend ordering under the section "Elevated Grits N Shyt" because the catfish and ultimate shrimp n grits are the stars of the menu. Everything was delicious with large portions that I took home leftovers. My friend was not as satisfied with her ACTBAD skillet. I took a bite and thought it was a bit salty. She said that there were parts of the skillet that were cold. When she asked if it could be warmed up, she was told that the restaurant did not have a microwave (??) but that they could give her a new dish. My friend decided to keep it, but it should not have been a problem to take her skillet and reheat it on the stovetop. I would not recommend ordering the ACTBAD. As I said above, stick to the catfish and grits.

The food was deeeelicioouussss! I finally found a place in Detroit with food that tastes like my grandmama or auntie cooked it. Nothing was over seasoned or over salted. Everything was just good. I only purchased sides because to me, that is the proof of good food at a place like Annie's. Some people just through the sides together & only focus on the mains; Annie's puts love in the sides too. I had green beans (seasoned the old way with smoked meat in it & has potatoes too), cornbread dressing that wasn't dry or mushy (like Godilocks says "it was just right"), Mac n cheese (I ate mine room temp & it was still good so I know it's da bomb hot), and I had the peach cobbler. The cobbler was good but it had more cinnamon than I like & it wasn't juicy; but if I had some vanilla ice cream (omg) that would have made it perfect too. I'm not even mad about the cobbler because the crust to peach ratio was on point & it's a VERY good crust! I really wanted banana pudding but they were out, so there is another reason for me to go back. Tomorrow I'm going to get a fish dinner for date night with my hubby; & get him a chicken dinner. Anyway, if you don't eat at Annie Mae's Kitchen, you need too. I'll update with photos.

Initially we were not sure if it was open because the parking lot looked empty, but we saw the "OPEN" sign and decided to try it... and are so glad we did I ordered the fried chicken wings (with 2 sides) and got yams and greens. The greens were so freaking good! But they do have meat in them so keep that in mind. The chicken was hot and had just the right amount of seasoning. Yams were really good but a little too sweet for me so I couldn't finish (although I enjoyed them). My kids shared 2 plates of the fried chicken (5 wings per meal) and got Mac and cheese and greens. They loved the greens but didn't love the macaroni and cheese. They are picky and didn't like the seasoning on the mac and cheese. My husband ordered BBQ salmon and got greens and yams. He loved the greens but yams were a bit too sweet for him. He said the salmon was good but he prefers it medium well instead of well done. It took about 30 mins to come out but it was worth the wait! Overall, the food was delicious and we would come back again. The portions were generous!
