Hands-down the best soul food I have ever had! Every dish was seasoned perfectly. My friend and I…read moreordered the Aunt Pearl's Plate. You get a lot of food for the right price. I had a glass of wine, the others had a whiskey and a martini. It did take a normally than longer time for the drinks to arrive. The food was delivered in a timely manner and delivered at the right temperature. There is plenty of seating for those that prefer tables as well for those that prefer booths. The restrooms were very clean and large. The service was stellar. Our server was kind, knowledgeable and very timely. Highly recommended.

We did go on a Sunday because we are just in town for a basketball tournament. Plan ahead and make reservations. We did not make reservations and they told us an hour wait time but we were seated in less than 45 minutes. There is no parking, but plenty of parking lots available close by. Now the best part the food....we loved it all! My husband and son ordered sweet tea and they loved it! I ordered the smothered pork chops with red beans and rice, and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was so delicious and rich. The serving size for me was perfect because it was actually quite filling. Smothered pork chops were very tasty and seasoning was spot on and cooked just right. The red beans and rice was good and had a little spice to it. My husband had the three piece chicken with collard greens and potato salad. He said the chicken was fried perfectly and juicy. Collard greens are good, he don't need to add any seasoning. Potato salad was tasty! The best part about my husband's meal to me was the biscuit with the grape jelly butter!! I've had a biscuit with butter and grape jelly, but it's very never thought or heard of a grape jelly butter.... THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING CONCOCTION IVE EVER HAD!! So whoever thought that should be served with the biscuits....you are amazing!!! Best thing ever!!! My son had the chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese. He said he liked the chicken but he doesn't like anything spice and to him it was but I would say it's not. So he took the skin off and ate the chicken like that and loved that it was juicy and not dry. They gave him the same grape jelly butter for the waffles and syrup and he absolutely loved it!!! Again the whole grape jelly butter is the best idea ever!! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Detroit, MI. It is a must!!! And the staff is super professional and friendly!!

The interior does look nice, they updated it a lot but still kept some of the wood features from before, which I liked. That said, the service and overall customer experience definitely needs improvement. We stood in the lobby for quite a while with no clear direction. It wasn't obvious whether we were supposed to wait somewhere specific or if a hostess was coming, so there was a lot of confusion until someone finally let us know there was a wait. Once we were seated, it also took a long time for our waitress to come over. By the time she did, we'd already had plenty of time to look over the menu and knew exactly what we wanted. When I asked a few questions while placing my order, she seemed a bit irritated, which didn't feel very welcoming. As for the food, everything on the menu felt overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. We ordered a variety of items to try different things. The cinnamon sweet potato pancakes were definitely the standout, they were really good. The grits bowl was good, However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. It was just one biscuit for $6, no meat at all, and the gravy tasted a bit off. Overall, the pricing for breakfast felt steep, and I was honestly a little taken aback by it. The mimosas were delicious, but again, not quite worth the price point for me. Nothing I had really stood out enough to make me feel like I have to come back for it, which was disappointing because I wanted to love this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, so I might give it another try to see what the hype is about, but as of now, it was just okay. Solid three stars.

So I gobbled my food down & forgot to take a picture‍! I'm going back just so I can get the story…read moreabout Annie Mae's Kitchen & see if she was there when I came. The food was deeeelicioouussss! I finally found a place in Detroit with food that tastes like my grandmama or auntie cooked it. Nothing was over seasoned or over salted. Everything was just good. I only purchased sides because to me, that is the proof of good food at a place like Annie's. Some people just through the sides together & only focus on the mains; Annie's puts love in the sides too. I had green beans (seasoned the old way with smoked meat in it & has potatoes too), cornbread dressing that wasn't dry or mushy (like Godilocks says "it was just right"), Mac n cheese (I ate mine room temp & it was still good so I know it's da bomb hot), and I had the peach cobbler. The cobbler was good but it had more cinnamon than I like & it wasn't juicy; but if I had some vanilla ice cream (omg) that would have made it perfect too. I'm not even mad about the cobbler because the crust to peach ratio was on point & it's a VERY good crust! I really wanted banana pudding but they were out, so there is another reason for me to go back. Tomorrow I'm going to get a fish dinner for date night with my hubby; & get him a chicken dinner. Anyway, if you don't eat at Annie Mae's Kitchen, you need too. I'll update with photos.

Annie Mae's Kitchen - I've had better, lamb chops are super thin and fatty! Not worth $22.00 at all. Mac and cheese taste like shells and cheese‍
