Sam popped up, and I was instantly sold - the photos on her profile showed her line work was sharp and clean, just what I wanted. She organised a quick consultation first, which I'm really glad about - it was great to connect with her. On the day the shop was busy, and the tables are quite close together, so come prepared for that. Sam chatted with us first, before working carefully to place the tattoos exactly where we both wanted them. She has an incredibly light touch - which is an enormous help when you're getting a painful spot done (hello foot, how're those nerve endings doing??) She works quickly and cleanly, and I have absolutely no complaints! Truly a gem, I hope we get to keep her in Vancouver for a while!!

After some research, I knew I had to have my tattoo done by Fay. A few weeks before my trip, I called, paid my deposit, and sent over my design with the tweaks I wanted. Everything was set, and my excitement started to build. Fast forward to the day of my appointment--I arrived right on time, and Fay was already waiting, ready to go. She printed out my design, and let me tell you: she *nailed it*. First try, no edits needed. She even printed a few different sizes so we could settle on the perfect one. And before I knew it, she was tattooing. Yes, it hurt (because, of course it does), but the pain faded as quickly as it came. Chatting with Fay was a blast, and to top it off, she even touched up one of my older tats. And the pricing? Absolutely fantastic for the quality. But I wasn't done. Apparently, one tattoo wasn't enough--I decided to get a tragus piercing with Adam. Now, it had been 10 years since I'd had anything pierced, so naturally, I didn't quite remember what to expect. But Adam was a total pro. He distracted me effortlessly with great conversation, and before I knew it, the piercing was done. His vibe? Impeccable. I would always look forward to seeing her and having a little chat. I appreciated her knowledge and expertise when it came to having my tattoo removed. Tattoo: There is a vibe here that I find a bit off-putting. Sometimes the people at the front desk have been courteous, but often aloof to the point of unfriendly. I feel quite unwelcome in the space, and the artist who did a matching tattoo for my friend and me really didn't seem to want to be doing it (we had asked and made sure he was ok with it, and he agreed). He not only brightened it up but also did a little once over on other areas to better blend the new work with the old, so now I have a lovely collection of autumn leaves and a greater definition of my birds against the grey wash in the background. Jarret has a really lovely demeanour, is calm and friendly to chat with (I didn't even need my phone!) and is a quick, knowledgeable, and skilled tattooist. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Full disclosure: I never went here to get a tattoo for myself, just to (unwillingly) keep my…read morecousin company as he got his (I'm from Calgary and not from the area, and he was my ride for the day so I didn't really have a choice). As such, I spent most of my time in the waiting room in the front lobby killing time. What I can tell you: The place is clean and orderly. The front staff were very friendly, and after observing them for an hour or so (as there wasn't much to do while waiting), they were very professional and helpful, to clients at the venue and over the phone. The waiting room consists of some padded chairs and a coffee table with binders with the various tattoos you can get. There's a water cooler and a washroom as well. I couldn't tell if they had free wifi, but there was one of those 'linksys' unsecured access points with full bars that worked from the lobby, which was handy for me since I was able to write a few Yelp reviews on my laptop while I was sitting around waiting (but with all unsecured wifi spots, especially those that you don't know who owns them, I would never to any kind of financial transactions or anything that requires inputting a password of any sort). I don't think I'd ever get a tattoo for myself (simply doesn't interest me), but if I were in BC and had to get one, I'd probably go here. 13/30
