There's tons of residential parking on the Friday after July 4th around noon. At midday the playground is in the full sun, but some of the grass areas are partially shaded. There's also a large shaded picnic table area with maybe 10-25 tables. There are water fountains and port-a-potties.

Nice big shade trees. Great place for a picnic. Bring the dogs, they've got a great area where dogs are allowed off leash. We were there today and played frisbee. Plenty of room, not crowded. A first aid class was being offered today at the barn, so it seems like there is always something going on. They also have a community garden where you can lease a plot on an annual basis. Get up early and wait in line once a year to try and get a slot. If you are lucky enough to get a spot they have a great support network of master gardeners that can help you with ideas, solutions, etc. in your effort to achieve the perfect garden. Or archive whatever it is that you are hoping to achieve. Nicely run, organized, friendly and a great resource.

The park had a turnaround dirt parking area, which was unique for a park in town. The terrain of the park seemed to be located in a pit and mostly comprised of the natural landscape, such as bushes and dirt. I am not sure if any water pools up there but looks like it could during a good rain. It is definitely one of the more unique parks in town. If you happen to be in the area, it is worth checking out. But there are many other parks that you may want to consider as this one seems pretty underdeveloped.

River Rim is a small public park operated by the Bend Park and Recreation District. Of all the many…read moreparks in the BPRD portfolio, River Rim might be among the weirdest. It has absolutely no facilities other than a small parking lot and is accessed via a narrow right of way from the street. I'm guessing it was a compromise solution when the neighborhood got developed, perhaps because it is the last takeout on the river before you get to a gnarly stretch of rapids/falls downstream. It's not a great take-out point, though, at least in terms of getting your kayak up to your vehicle. River Rim also contains the southernmost segment of the Deschutes River Trail on this side of the river (the trail takes up again on the west side and heads towards Sunriver). It's a disconnected segment though, as there's no continuous connection north to where the DRT fully blossoms into a major in-town walking trail through Bend, and there's no bridge across the river to the west side here (there is renewed efforts to get a footbridge built somewhere around Good Dog on the west side). All in all, it's great that BPRD has this bit of land on the river but it's hardly a destination park. Perhaps one day it will be part of a continuous Sunriver - Tumalo Deschutes River Trail.
