We had rented 1511 at Beach Cove in the past and returned to the same condo. While the condo had had a few minor issues in the past this time it was really bad. The condo was not clean to the point when I went to check it make sure that we had not left anything in the room before we left I found old Cheezits under one of the beds. Not somewhere I would have thought to look when we checked in. My husband also said he found old pretzel bits in the living room. There was a tooth pick by one of the beds and a hair on the bath room floor as well. The condo has a serious mold issue. I have to take allergy meds every day and my chest and throat hurt most of the week. My husband had several severe sneezing attacks and a constant stopped up nose when we were in the room. I took pictures of the mold spots and stains on the wall and ceiling in the bedroom and showed it to the agent at Carolina Resorts and they said they would contact the owner. The room also had an unpleasant odor according to my husband and I could smell it from time to time so it had to be bad as I generally can't smell. 1511 is very dated and needs serious cleaning and updating. The last time we were there in Oct. 2012 I had made a comment about the wall paper sagging. This time I noticed that they had stapled it across the top in the bedroom - really tacky. While I recommend Carolina Resorts Realty and think they are a good agency to work with I am warning people not to rent 1511 until something has been done to improve it.

The only reason I took a star off was because the unit itself is old and a little rundown. The furniture is very shabby and needs replaced to the point that I went to Walmart and bought some cheap throw blankets to cover the furniture with because it was a little gross. But the condition of the furnishings in the unit is my only complaint. If you plan to rent unit 607 at Prince Resort, they sell cheap throw blankets at Walmart for $2.50 a piece, FYI! But the bathrooms and kitchen were spotless and the unit seemed clean overall.

In a little over one year the company provided us with four different agents. Some had never seen or visited our property.  At one point, they actually used pictures of a totally unrelated property on our listing and had no clue when we expressed concerns of which photos were from a different building. The very first Customer they assigned to our property was using a fraudulent credit card. They gave her the access code before ever confirming the payment. After she was there the second day and provided multiple fraudulent credit cards they evicted her. However, they never got a deposit so we missed out on a week of rentals during the peak of the summer. They took no accountability whatsoever. About a month later, we recognized that they had dropped our listing prices by 50% in the height of Rental season. When confronted no one could tell me who did it. They reversed the Rental price on the listing but again took no accountability and I just had to eat the losses. They later dropped it 50% again and acted surprised when we expressed concern that they were competent. Later, they had a contractor inspect our windows and he purposely manufactured damage to every frame in the house in order to solicit work. When I responded, they told me the property was already like that. Luckily, we had just visited the property the day before and had video and photographic evidence showing otherwise. They did fix all the damage, but never took accountability whatsoever. The owner named ANDY never responded to us, even though his service department directed us to him. We experienced a ton of damage / theft to our unit that they never made us aware of and never took accountability for.We only offer our unit during four months of the summer. In those four months we lost approximately $26,000 in revenue compared to our prior property management group and our average for the previous four years. I can't think of a single aspect of our experience that I would rate positively.

We live in Virginia and don't get down often, however, family and friends are on the Condo calendar most weeks out of the year. There were issues with our building with the construction company. Benchmark has done their best to elevate the issues and I believe are still in litigation. The property is always well manicured and pools very clean. Security is represented well. The only complaints I have are with the construction company's lack of speedy resolve of problems. The staff has always been cordial and timely in getting back to us in VA when we had concerns or needed to arrange to have maintainance people have access to our unit. Always polite and ready to assist.

The king bed was 2 twin beds stuck together. None of the sheets fit the beds. The beds were rock hard with only 1 flat pillow per bed. There were no curtains in the bedrooms, so they were very bright. Basically it was impossible to sleep in that condo, so it made our vacation horrible. In addition, tartan didn't provide dish soap, trash bags, or toilet paper. These are not things we usually have to take to a condo. There was barely any silverware and the stove only worked haphazardly. I guess they really didn't want us to cook, because there were no measuring spoons or cups either. I don't recommend renting anything from Tartan. You are better off with a priceline express deal!

Make sure you are very diligent with their repairs. Make them send you pictures or do not authorize repairs of any kind without first being notified. We also have to fight to get the rental commissions due us. One check took 6 months to receive. When you live away from your property you have the right to believe that a company you are paying 30% commission to would be honest and care about your property, but this company does not. On the morning of our…read morefirst day we awoke to the dining room ceiling soaking wet and dripping onto the floor, the table and chairs. We cleaned up the mess. Susie sent someone to "repair" the leak which was coming from the air conditioning unit. The repairman put some extra insulation in the ceiling to "help the leak" but said he would have come back the next day. After a family member stayed at the house all day waiting for the repair to be done, we still had a leaking ceiling. No dinner in the dining room...the next day's repair consisted of replacing the a/c filter. Two days out of our 7 day vacation someone had to sit at the house waiting on repairmen. Tonight we figured out the dishwasher doesn't work. Ok we can wash the dishes by hand...oh no we can't...there is no stopper and the sink is leaking underneath. Another call to Susie and a carpenter was sent to repair the sink and dishwasher. Susie seemed to have little concern for our situation, was not very helpful and verged on being rude.

Upon our arrival we had to wash mattress pads and dishes. The dishwasher was replaced the day before we left. This would be a great unit with some furniture upgrades and paint on exterior doors. Another concern that I have is the length of time it takes to have the security deposit returned following check out. With the concerns we had with our unit, I am not sure why I have to wait a full month to receive my $250 security deposit. That is entirely too long for them to hold a customer's money as I am sure the condo was assessed for damages upon check out. I was told the reason for the month-long wait was to ensure "people had not made long distance phone calls or charged up movies." I made the suggestion that in 2023, people do use cell phones and their own streaming services, so the policy seems outdated. THE BIGGEST ISSUE with Grand Strand Rental - Ten minutes after posting on another site a three-star review with the concerns mentioned above, I received perhaps the most unprofessional phone call from someone in management at Grand Strand Vacations. I was told that these issues were not reported, which is completely inaccurate! I have never been spoken to in such a rude manner. It was a COMPLETE LACK of professionalism. Do yourself a favor and look at their reviews on other sites as well. I would never use this rental company again!
