If you have a really specific holiday in mind that can't be found in the pages of a travel…read morebrochure, then this is the place to come. Our honeymoon plans weren't exactly running smoothly when one competitor quoted us an astronomical fee for our perfect trip. However, a quick trip to Broads one Saturday morning and the brilliant assistance of Charlotte changed that in an instant. We had a brief chat as she took notes of our requirements. A few days later she had spoken to her contacts and had arranged our affordable trip of a lifetime right down to the last detail. We had great locations and amazing hotels. She had even informed each hotel that we were honeymooners which ensured a few treats and upgrades along the way. Furthermore, it was really easy to pay for as we were able to meet the costs in instalments. A few extra visits to Broads meant we met the other staff members too. Everyone was equally friendly, knowledgeable and professional. This is one of the best experiences I've had of a local business in a long, long time. We will be using their services again without question. The honeymoon may be over, but our love affair with Broads has only just begun!

Travel agent? In the Internet age? How can it work? The fact…read moreis, especially given the comfortable Four Oaks location, not everyone of a certain age, in the market for, say, a cruise or a trans-continental rail journey, is au fait with a clicking mouse. And yet, that's only half the story. There's plenty of people in town for whom booking a holiday would not carry the necessary peace of mind without a visit to Broads - it seems like only yesterday that I'd leave the shop, brochures in hand, with a chuffed mother. That's family and community tradition for you, such is the group's long-standing and trustworthiness. Then there are times when investigating hotels, checking flights, and crunching dates just seems like too much work when a break from the grind is what it sought. As friends will attest, a recent trip-of-a-lifetime was becoming too unwieldy to organise as they juggled full-time work commitments. So they logged off and took a trip to their local travel agent. The staff did the leg work and guess what... two happy bunnies with something to look forward to.

Sutton Park is a beautiful place, that much is clear. But what of the stuff in there? Well kids,…read morefor answers you may need to look a little further than the visitors centre. This little round building sits just up the way from Town Gate and has long been not quite as good as it could be. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting laser beams, glitter explosions, 3D glasses or any of that caper; but the visitors centre does seem to belong to a different, slightly older world where diagrams of wildlife were enough to animate children. Now I fear that such places are a little antiquated and things like stuffed animals like those in here are more scary than enlightening. One great thing about the visitors centre is how well it blends with the landscape. The small, round, dark wood building with a little dome on it is very discreet on the landscape. The worst thing anyone could do is replace it with a massive pine cabin or glass complex. For a start someone would boot a football through the glass before you could say 'taxidermied fox'. I can't really bring myself to slag this place off because it's such a part of my childhood and such an integral part of the park. All I'll say is go and give it some love, it both needs and deserves it.

(These activities are organised by the Sutton Park Rangers who are part of the Birmingham Parks Ranger Service. In addition, the Rangers offer a range of curriculum based activities for schools.) There are also nice and tastefully made nature related goodies to be bought (a few neat stocking fillers maybe, for various ages?). Park maps are provided free, but if you feel generous, spend a £1 on a Park guide book as well. It's nice and warm in there too, for a five minute respite from the big freeze along with handy toilet facilities (as an alternative to blundering through the undergrowth for relief, which could probably get you arrested anyway). As you can see, the Visitor Centre is located within the Park from the Town Gate entrance (at the end of the Park Road) and is easily reached from the centre of Sutton Coldfield town with good bus and rail connections to Birmingham, Walsall and Wolverhampton. There is a car park situated at the Visitor Centre for people with disabilities only.
