His staff seemed a little gruff on the phone, but when I got to the office I learned that they're really absolute darlings. Now, I didn't even know what an endodontist was before my visit, but I could still tell this man really knew what he was doing. He happily explained every step of the lengthy root canal process as he was doing it, and I had zero pain and discomfort throughout. And this is coming from someone who is so afraid of going to the dentist that she is likely to scream, "Ow!" as soon as they put the bib on her! It is obvious that Dr. Benkel takes his job very seriously. He comes across as an enthusiastic perfectionist who also cares very much about his patients' comfort. His perfectionism may keep you at his office a little longer than expected, but you know it will also prevent you from having to keep going back or finding someone else to fix sloppy work! This was my first root canal, but I've heard so many stories from people who've had multiple ones done by doctors who put them through pain and misery while botching a job, just to get them out of there and get on with the next patient. Never would happen in this case. The staff called to check up on me afterwards, and spoke with my insurance company while I was there to make sure everything was squared away and that I knew exactly what I would be paying out of pocket before Dr. Benkel even got started. My wife and I have been seeing them for about 2 years. We have had our yearly check ups, descaling and filings done there. The whole staff puts you at ease.
