When I was told "you could spend a whole day at Lady Green", that it was "vast" and "stunning," I…read morewas a little doubtful: it's a garden centre; could it really be THAT good? Bedding plants, hanging baskets and gnomes can only excite a person so much, but I went along open minded and was absolutely blown away. Lady Green is astonishingly beautiful. Initially, I was struck by the sheer scale of the place: 10 acres of land designed and manufactured to look as natural as possible. Walking around the grounds one can easily forget they are in a garden centre at all, far from B&Q or Homebase style trays of petunias and mass produced plant pots, Lady Green is landscaped with raised beds, pergolas, secret paths and even a large pond; reminiscent of a nature reserve with hundreds of bees guzzling nectar, birds darting in and out and rustling in the established trees and a mix of ducks of enjoying the secluded areas. Outdoors is remarkable and the indoor centre is just as impressive with a huge home-ware and garden furniture section, a kitchenware section and everything else from clothes to greetings cards and gift wrap, children's games to old fashioned sweets. At Christmas time a festive section is opened selling a range of exquisite decorative baubles and delicate ornaments and you can purchase a Christmas tree from the centre as well. Lady Green really is stunning, and there is a wonderful atmosphere there; the staff are so friendly and clearly enjoy their job while the customers, most of whom I would describe as visitors rather than shoppers, are quite content wandering around, sitting in the various tranquil spots or dining in the cafe.

Quite how we managed to be kept preoccupied by a garden centre I don't know, but it seemed to work. However, on returning to Lady Green recently I realised that perhaps there was more to it than just dismissing it as a garden centre. Firstly, the grounds themselves are huge, making for a hugely landscaped area to the extent that you sometimes forget you're actually in a garden centre (unlike in B&Q and Homebase where you can never forget you're just in a large shed). I guess it is this vastness that kept us all so busy during those times. Secondly, whilst I'm not the biggest gardening enthusiast in the world (I'm not that old), there is a genuinely interesting selection of different displays and products on display to fascinate even the least green-fingered of people. There is also a lovely little coffee shop there which serves some nice homemade food, perfect for those days when the weather isn't so pleasant and you have to rush inside for cover.

The plants are and good value for money, I should know my garden is full of them and they look great. In the home department they sell a range of lovely furniture, accessories and have a huge selection of yankee candles which give the shop a pleasing aroma. However, the real magic here happens at Christmas. The shop transforms into a winter wonderland selling all things festive and serving warm mince pies and mulled wine. The displays are fantastic, so much so that you don't want to touch anything! This place is guaranteed to bring out the child in you, there are lights everywhere you turn and immaculately decorated trees lend inspiration by the sleigh load. I highly recommend a trip to Gateacre Garden Centre at any time of year but especially at Christmas.

The staff have certainly put huge effort into turning a part of their Garden Centre into a mini-grotto displaying different themes of Christmas decorations, all very tastefully done ... once again I found myself return to my childhood as I took time to admire my surroundings - I could easily have spent a small fortune, but as we're so close to Christmas I've already done that so I window shopped instead ! The festive music and wonderful aromas made shopping albeit window a very pleasant experience here. My only negative remark is I find this Garden Centre is a little on the pricey side, so I tend to visit only to gather some nice ideas which I purchase elsewhere for less. However if you don't mind paying a little over then I'd highly recommend this Garden Centre for its huge selection of quality plants and its interesting gift & card shop with a range of lovely gift items to choose from. Well Done to the Gateacre Garden Centre for really capturing the magic of Christmas which they've presented so well to their customers and Thank You for making me feel young again if only for a few moments ;o) x

It is quaint with out houses and barns surrounding the car park and there's a rather nice little cafe which was very busy; clearly people visit more for the tea and cakes than the pansies, as with regard to it's "nursery and garden centre" appellation is unrealised. There is a large piece of land with around ten parallel sunken beds filled with pretty average bedding plants, the colour is muted and the area is somewhat barren resembling an infertile allotment rather than a garden centre. A huge greenhouse contains pretty much nothing: a depressingly sparse range of greetings cards beside a shelf of urns; some organic eggs; a few planters and peculiarly a bookcase of second hand fiction: a strange concoction of goods which does not quite match any requirements. While I was not there to buy, I still felt that the range was very limited and the offerings were poor. The site is pretty inaccessible for those without a vehicle and to go out of your way to come here is pretty pointless

I hope you understand your consiquenses 3 staff lost jobs due to 363 people who read your review and how many more people they in turn were told. you have lost us our local nursery and the friendly staff that worked their. well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
