Rhode Island has 5 giant trolls in various parks, and Ninigret has 2 of them: Greta Granite & Erik Rock. We stayed to the main paths as there are a lot of ticks around. And we saw a couple of fat turkeys who are probably feasting on the ticks. There are tennis courts, picnic area, a playground, observatory & senior center on the grounds. And plenty of parking.

Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, these massive sculptures are made from recycled materials and aim to promote conservation. The trolls can be found in various locations. I got to see only 2 of them that I can cross off my mapping for troll's list. * Charlestown's Ninigret Park is home to the Erik Rock and Greta Granite. It's accessible via trails and wooded paths. * Erik Rock lounges beside Little Ninigret Pond. * Greta Granite is located further along a wooded path marked by clues. It's a lot of fun to get on the mapping of the trolls and hunt them out all over the world when you're visiting the areas. It's amazing to experience these pieces of art created and designed by Thomas Dambo.

The Jamestown community has really put together an amazing space for children. No dogs are allowed in the park so plan accordingly. We had a puppy with us and stayed on the shady side walk near the community center while the dads kept an eye on the kids. There are a few picnic tables in the shade here. Lots of swings. Monkey bars. Zip line. And much more! The kids had a ball. Bonus points, an ice cream shop is across the street. Two thumbs up.

I'd say the main downside is that they don't have bathrooms and instead just have port-a-potty's. You can probably go into the library if the library is open, but when we were there the library was closed. The park has a great setup for younger kids on side and older kids on the other. I also love that there is a little bakery/cafe across the street that you can grab an iced coffee at and a snack before or after the kids play. Street parking was tight, but we were able to park at the library. Overall a lovely gem of a playground.

Bring bug spray during peak season. Even though the walk is short, there is quite a bit of vegetation and amazing art on display. My favorite was the HUGE bull as you first walk in. This thing is massive and a fun way to enter the park. More info: The South Kingstown Land Trust Sculpture Trail is a short .4 mile walk that mingles nature with art. Enter the trail at the midpoint and notice the large map indicating the location of each sculpture. Walkers may turn right or left to explore the 3 acres of easy trails and diverse sculptures. Look for dream catchers and crystals, poetry boxes and a giant red cow. The Sculpture Trail is a great place for a slow walk through the woods or a visit with children who will love to find each sculpture. Be sure to stop at the final sculptures and turn around, as the property and trails come very close to private property.

My only quibble is that I wish there were informational tags attached to the sculptures so that you knew what the piece was called and the artist (apparently, there's supposed to be an informational placard at the trail entrance, but this was missing at the time of our visit; the SKLT trail map brochure, however, does list the pieces' name/artist, but we didn't have one on us). Upon entrance to the trail, you are greeted by a massive bull made from, of course, a barbeque grill ("Sir Loin Barbeque Bull" by Sean Harrington) - and from there, you're off to follow the meandering trails to discovery. There's also a Fairy Village for visitors to build their own fairy houses, so would also be a fun place for the kids.

Everything is in great condition and extremely well maintained and the facilities are well used in the warm weather. Nice areas to have a picnic, walk a dog or take a stroll by the water. The boat launch tends to get crowded int he summer but there is a separate little areas just for canoes and kayaks so they don't have to wait for the larger craft. A very thoughtful touch indeed. A great park for just about anything you can think of. Whether you want to kick, swing, bounce, peddle, cast or paddle you will find this park to just about the perfect place.

Old Mountain Field also serves the Town's "urban" park with many participants walking to and from the park. The park contains lit baseball and softball fields, two lit tennis courts, two un-lit tennis courts, in-line skating facility, skateboard part, lit basketball courts, trails, concession stand, restroom building, and small pond. We have been to see kids play baseball and softball many times and it is a very lively and well used park. There's plenty of parking.

It does not matter if you park in the farther lots, you can still walk around the edge of the park and enjoy the nice ocean views and rocky scenery. There are areas for picnics, there is a small museum and there's the lighthouse as well. We have come many times and we have seen many people taking pictures with the beautiful background for weddings, quinceañeras, engagements, graduation, and more. Free parking, free to get in.

The lighthouse museum was open as was their little one room aquarium. We picniced in the lawn and as with all State parks it's "carry-in, carry out" so be sure you bring your own trash bags. Same for your pup. Furry friends are welcime as long as you carry their droppings out. Four parking areas are available at no cost. A number of trails dot the area. Most of the area is uneven grass and dirt paths although there are handicapped spots closest to the lighthouse and a paved path leading in that direction. The lighthouse museum is not wheel chair accessible. Composting toilet buildings are located in a field between parking and lighthouse. These are water free and have hand sanitizer available. If you are a forager this location may interest you. Be sure you have a license to enjoy fishing off the rocks.

The beach is filled with sharp shells and rocks -- dogs might hurt their paws. Cool views of Narragansett Bay and the Jamestown Bridge. We typically see a lot of birdwatchers and families. Walk from the parking lot down the large path until you see water. Then at the beach, take a right and climb over some big rocks and you'll find more beach to walk on as you head towards the Jamestown Bridge. Very easy walk/hike. No bathrooms or trash cans -- so I deducted a star.

But in the 19th century some wise arse decided to name it West Kingston. Not a bad name but considering the village of West Kingston is in the town of South Kingstown and there is a North Kingstown lurking nearby, things have been confused ever since. The West Kingston Park is quite nice, assuming you can find it, which is iffy for non local people because they usually end up looking for South Kingston or West Kingstown, neither of which exist. The park is very pleasant and has tennis and basketball courts and lots of picnic areas and places to walk. It's an easy bike ride to the Kingstown beaches and isn't to far from the campus of The University of Rhode Island. An old saying goes that everything in Rhode Island has three names and that frequently proves to be the case. It's a nice little park that is seldom crowded, even in the summer. Perhaps the reason is that nobody can figure out exactly where the park is.

A peaceful park…read more Green Hill is a two and a half acre park that is always looks so clean and peaceful no matter what time of the year you visit. Never seems to be very crowded even during the warm months and in the winter it is usually deserted. The park is extremely well maintained and has basketball ball courts, tennis courts, beach volleyball court, soccer field and even a few short walking and hiking paths. It is a great place to stop if you are biking through the area on the way to the beaches because it always has clean bathrooms and even a drinking fountain that actually works. The hiking and walking paths are nothing to get excited about, but makes for a pleasant if short diversion. It is very buggy during the wet months with numerous mosquitoes, biting flies and other six legged vermin. The picnic area is very nice and the folks that frequent the park are quiet, friendly and nice. The area has several great beaches nearby so the park tends to get overlooked but it is a peaceful and green place to stop and get some water, use the bathrooms, take a short walk or simply relax.
