Cute lil Japanese bakery off the beaten path. This place is the COMPLETE AND TOTAL OPPOSITE of a…read moreGerman bakery, so turn back now if you're expecting crusty Brötchen! They have a lot of different types of Japanese pastries, aka pillowy soft bread with fillings, such as matcha, red bean, custard, etc. Everything is sealed in clear plastic and you just pick what you want and pay at the front.
The items are hit or miss, but it really depends on what you like. I tried:
- Earl gray muffin (nice with a subtle earl gray flavor, but tiny size)
- Chocolate bun (soft chewy dough with a chocolate middle)
- French toast stick (crunchy & sweet glazed toast)
- Japanese curry roll (curry inside crunchy fried dough, kind of tastes like a Japanese meat pie)
- Japanese iced coffee (plain black iced coffee, nothing special)
Everything is 1-3 Euros, which seems fair, though the items are pretty small. There's plenty of seating and tons of bright windows, so it's a cute place to chat with friends or linger. When I dropped in, there were only Japanese people there. I don't think it can compare to the cafes in Japanese districts in other cities (for example LA's amazing Little Tokyo) BUT for Germany I think it's a unique place, and a great alternative when you want a different kind of bakery experience.
