Theratopia's customer service is seriously lacking. I left a message on their answering machine to make an appointment, but I never received a return call. After not hearing from them, I called them (again) to make a massage appointment. However, they refused to put the appointment in the book until I could provide them with a Groupon voucher number. I explained to the woman that I had been burned by one too many Groupon business---and that I would purchase it as soon as I had a confirmed appointment (I had it up on my screen). The woman was unrelenting and refused to make the appointment. There are plenty of other massage options in the area. Ones that have better customer service. read more

They have since moved to liftbridge lane in fairport. Beautiful spa, professional and very polite staff and relaxing music. However, as an athlete I asked for a deep tissue massage to work on the million muscle knots in my upper back and shoulders. Instead I got COVERED in an unnecessary amount of oil and more or less tickled for 60 minutes. I'm sure that's what most people like, but for me it was a waste- the entire appt she spent only a bit of time on just one muscle knot. I really don't need my fingers, toes, shins, and bottoms of my feet petted. That is NOT a deep tissue massage. I'm sure this is a lovely place for easily exasperated soccer moms to be basted in too much oil and feel pampered, but if you're an athlete, steer clear, there are much better options out there for massage which will actually help your muscles recover. One final note, it was absolutely freezing in the massage room. Could not have been higher than 65°. I was so cold the entire time it would have been very difficult to enjoy a massage, even if it were what I had asked for. If you like a comfortably toasty room during your massage so your muscles can actually relax, this is not the place for you. read more

After reading the less than great reviews about some people's previous Groupon experiences, I was a little wary of trying this place out. However, I'm really glad I did! It seems as though whatever issues they were having before have been taken seriously and rectified. I had no issues purchasing a Groupon and making a double appointment for my sister and myself. Redeeming the Groupon when we got there was just as easy. My facial was amazing, as was my massage. Both professionals took time to understand what I expected from my services and followed through completely with what I was promised - A relaxing massage and a great facial. I would absolutely go back again. My only con is that the bathroom is down the hall and around the corner. When you're in a bathrobe, this can be kind of awkward because there are other people/businesses around. A private bathroom for customers would really be beneficial. read more

I've been to Theratopia twice now, and although my first experience with a different masseuse was average, my second message with Sue was amazing. She was friendly and relaxing, and did wonders for my neck and back. She specializes in deep tissue, but will change her pressure based on your needs and is very good about asking you if the pressure is comfortable. If you're looking for a medium or firm pressure message, I would definitely recommend asking for Sue. read more

My sister-in-law and I used went to get massages today. We were both extremely impressed. Usually one hour massages are 50 minutes, but not this one! It was the full hour! We used Groupons and were wary that we might "get what we paid for" but no worries here. Christin used the perfect amount of pressure and made sure I was always comfortable. She was knowledgeable and also showed me some stretches afterwards to help with my muscles. A friend purchased Theratopia Groupons for both me and my sister. After I scheduled appointments for both of us, the person who scheduled our appointments called back and left a message saying that we could not use the Groupons unless we each paid an additional $60, because we had each been in a year ago. (We had both also received Groupons as gifts to go there a year ago.) The person who thoughtfully and generously purchased these Groupons for us as Christmas gifts was not aware that we had been there last year. It is not as if we are regular clients who intentionally purchased the Groupons in an effort to swindle Theratopia out of their deserved compensation. They were gifts. I explained this to the second person I spoke with at Theratopia, but she refused to honor the Groupons unless we each paid an additional $60. I will not recommend Theratopia to anyone. read more

I purchased a massage for a friend for her birthday through Amazon Local, she was so excited as I had told her how lovely it was when I had gone in previously. When she arrived she filled out the usual paperwork and indicated that she has arthritis and that her one knee was bothering her that evening. She was made to feel as though she was carrying a communicable disease and was told that she would not be seen, as the masseuse was uncomfortable with it. The masseuse went and got the manager who also said no, you will not be seen. Mind you, she has received massages before at other establishments, having had multiple painful areas, and it's never been an issue. The massage therapy is helpful, not harmful. Massage is therapy for people with a variety of aches, pains and ailments - to turn someone with an achy knee away is just unreal. The way the situation was handled was beyond ridiculous, and my friend left there crying. The proper thing to do would have been to not massage the one knee that was bothering, if anything. Not to treat someone poorly. Then to top it all off - they cashed in the voucher and refused to give it back telling her the purchaser could sort it out with Amazon Local - Amazon clearly refunded me my money but I can tell you - I will never recommend them to a soul again, that is no way to treat people. You all can find a much better establishment than this one, move on. read more

I was a bit nervous after reading all of the negative reviews for this spa, but I had gotten a groupon as a gift, so I wanted to check it out, and I was NOT disappointed! I have never written one of these before, but knew I had to right these negative reviewers!!! I called and was able to book an appointment within 2 weeks based on my desired time of day. They also called to confirm my appointment a few days in advance. I was running very late to my appointment because of an accident on the way, but I called and they were VERY understanding. Upon arrival, while I felt rushed, I was warmly greeted and immediately put at ease. My masseuse Christin introduced herself and asked about my needs and goals for the session I had hot towels to start and was very comfortable on the table with soft blankets. Christin was great to work with, she was able to work out several knots and tense muscles and used consistent deep pressure (and I like to leave with sore back muscles-she was able to do that!). She was responsive to me, but took cues for conversation from me (I've had massages where all the masseuse wants to do is talk-not relaxing!) She also could have easily cut our massage short as I was late, but she was very professional, committed to the full hour (even though that meant staying late for her) and even gave me tips on stretches to aid with muscle soreness I have had. I sometimes shy away from groupons, especially when I declare it up front as I do find that sometimes I am treated differently, but not here-I was completely thrilled with my experience. Christin was great to work with, everyone I spoke to was professional, and I had one of the best massages ever! Thank you Theratopia-I will be back!!! Area for improvement-it was a little bit chilly. I know everyone likes to work in an air conditioned environment, especially doing a physical task, but for me just laying there, I was a bit chilly. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! the single star is purely for the massage staff and general ambiance, but the scheduling and management are abysmal! and for goodness sake, don't use their Groupons! tried them first three years ago - they lost my appointment but were able to squish me in. tried them again this summer - they lost my appointment AGAIN! this time they were not able to squish me in and told me to call back for another appointment. when I called back, the scheduler handed the phone to the manager who said, "well, what happened was that you're ineligible for the Groupon because you were a previous cusotmer." when I asked why this wasn't mentioned when I made the appointment in the first place she said, "well, someone must have just not noticed." when I mentioned (like I notice other customers on Yelp have said) that I had been told that the Groupon would be honored even though I was a client before, the manager said, "well, you must have misunderstood." they then told me that I'd have to pay additional to actually receive the service for which I had already been scheduled, and now needed to reschedule because they'd lost the appointment. when I said that I'd rather simply be refunded at that point, they refused and told me I'd have to take it up with Groupon. SERIOUSLY?!? luckily, Groupon is very professional and refunded the full amount when I contacted them, with Groupon store credit, that I will now be using at a DIFFERENT spa! read more

I had a Living Social deal that had expired for a massage and facial. I paid $89. Living Social's policy is that the paid value never expires. After numerous attempts to call (no one answers the phone), I was finally able to make an appointment. I was told they no longer offer facials. That was fine because I only had the original $89 to spend anyway. After the massage, I was told I OWED them $35. Apparently I got some heat therapy treatment (I guess putting a warm pack on your back is an extra $15+). She kept arguing that the value of my original promotion was over $240 so she wasn't going to make any money on me. I didn't get the facial so why was she even factoring that? In the end, I paid $105 which was the full price they charge for a massage with "heat therapy". (By the way the massage therapist apparently wants out too because she whispered and handed me her business card for her new location). I now see Groupon deals for exactly what I had done for $46. read more

Customer service is lacking in many areas, especially with the receptionist. Be careful when you try to use a groupon. I had a "1 hour facial" and the woman left the room for 15 minutes to get something from her car. Then ended the service 15 minutes early. read more

Ok, so the reason I'm updating my review has nothing to do with the quality of service--I still recommend them. Sue was a fantastic LMT--she will never have problems building and keeping a loyal client base given her skills. This 2nd part of my review relates to the ridiculous markup of the products they sell. They sell Control Correctives skin care and I purchased 2 products because I was so pleased with the facial I received. They came to $98 plus tax. Expensive, yes--but I admit I'm a product junkie. Unfortunately, I should've price checked before I purchased because I was so angry when I found the same products for about 45% less than what I paid. I paid $54 at the spa for a face gel but I found it for $30 on Amazon (not likely an "off the truck" thing--it was a reputable esthetician with high reviews and new, unused, unexpired products. I bought it and the quality is the same as the spa). I also bought an eye cream at the spa that cost $44 but found it for $32 elsewhere. So, while the spa SERVICES are great, the skin care products are extremely overpriced. I wouldn't complain if it was maybe a 10-15% markup but 45% above cost is terrible. Look online 1st before buying any products from them. read more

Do NOT use them. I had a massage there and the therapist left the room for nearly 20 min, 5 min into the massage...then comes back without an explanation as if that is normal. She put hot towels on me which were cold by the time she reappeared. I had a Groupon and when I checked out, the girl at the counter told me to check out their other upcoming specials, that there would be one on Living Social & another one on Groupon. I purchased 2 massage Groupons, one for me and one for my husband. When I tried to schedule the appointments, they refused to honor my Groupon since I wasn't a "New Client". I explained that the staff directed me to purchase the special in spite of the verbiage on the coupon but the owner refused, said I could go on their website and take advantage of a different special because they only use Groupon to bring them new clients and they would NOT MAKE ENOUGH MONEY if they honored my Groupon. She said that Groupon charges a "hefty fee" and she would be PAYING for me to be there. OK, well, then instead of me returning to your sub-par business and bringing a NEW client with me, how about I return BOTH massages and never go there again? The owner said she was positive the girls would never tell someone to purchase a 2nd Groupon (essentially calling me a liar). Then as an additional slam, tells me I can go to Massage Envy or a massage school to take advantage of massages with a lower price point! She never once apologized for their mistake or made any effort to fix it. By the way, Groupon was AWESOME...refunded my money and was going to put in a request for them to stop doing business with a business that treats people like that!! read more

I've been here monthly for about six months. I like the waiting room because I can peace-out for a few minutes before, and after, my massage and sort of transition. I've been getting massages for 25 years, nationally and internationally. Sue, my masseuse, has excellent technique, is very good with pressure based on my feedback, focuses where I ask, and handles trouble spots I mention in the interview-style conversation we open with; she makes me feel like she is taking extra time to be thorough and professional with me. The owner, Michelle, is personable and professional and is herself a masseuse, although I have not been treated by her as, due to injury, I cannot undergo ashiatsu massage, a unique offering of this place. This is a small business in a very nice location (historic box factory on Erie Canal) and as such may have minor glitches, but that is easily overlooked for the benefits of the rest of the service. They also have effective email appointment confirmations and give you a day-before reminder call so you never have to worry about missing a scheduled appointment and maybe being charged the non-cancellation / missed appointment fee. I found them via Groupon, and continued to come back. read more
