When it came time to order our ketubah, we found very little that we liked. It seems that our tastes do not match the 99.9% of ketubahs commercially available, which tend toward sort of flowery storybook images or standard stained-glass type designs. We wanted something different, something abstract and more timeless. Some friends recommended TheKetubah after being very pleased with their own custom ketubah - a gorgeous ornate design using both Hebrew and Mandarin characters. Stephanie Caplan - the owner and artist - features several VERY unique custom ketubah designs on her web site, as well as some prints that are less expensive. The one we chose is a custom design printed on corkskin (we love wine, so this fit us to a tee) with gold leaf accents. We also got to customize the wording to make the piece that much more special. The final ketubah arrived in less than 6 weeks, was in perfect condition, and looked even more beautiful than we expected. Pricing was reasonable - for a custom ketubah, better set your expectations around the numbered litho level - they can range from $1500 to $3000. The prints are much less, like a few hundred dollars. Stephanie created the most beautiful Ketubah for my husband and me. I am an artist myself and hated about 99% of the Ketubahs that I saw---they were corny, ordinary and even tacky. Stephanie made my Ketubah in 2002/2003. What can I say? It was, and still is, magnificent! My husband and I were living in NYC when I commissioned it. Since then it has traveled to Richmond, VA, where it was displayed in the living room of my historic brick Georgian home, and then to Berkeley, CA, where it resides in the foyer of my modern home. The ketubah that Stephanie designed and produced for us is simply one of the favorite things we own. It garners many compliments from guests -- I think because of the strong colors, beautiful design, and how unique it is. The ketubah is also uplifting to have around -- to admire and to check in with every so often. I bought this for our first (paper) anniversary, and don't know if I'll ever be able to top it. Stephanie personalized it by working in our wedding vows and a favorite Bible verse.
