Closer to a 4.5 So I heard about this place through friends and was eager to check it out. A friend wanted to get together for coffee so I decided we could go here. I have to warn you that this place is tiny and it's hard to nab a seat, especially for 2 or more. Better to grab a seat then go order. So they have a board of items you can order but the more extensive menu is at the front. I found this process kind of confusing but not a big deal I guess. I ordered the classic breakfast sandwich. It was unreal. It was just mouth-watereringly delicious!! If I had room I would have tried the crispy chicken which also looked good. My friend got the goat cheese stuffed bun, and we both accompanied our food with lattes. These lattes were pretty strong. I had mine made with Almond milk, as they don't offer Soy...which is a major bummer and kind of weird, no? Surprisingly it was still good. The customer service is pretty good. You have to order at the front and go back and get your drink but they bring the food to you. The ambiance is chic/hipster. I would definitely come back, in fact I want to try more food!!! Given the extremely high standard set by AnnaLena--we were expecting alot from Their There but unfortunately, the experience fell flat. We tried the Smoked Meat, Ginger Soy Beef, Egg Salad, and an Americano. The Smoked Meat sandwich and Americano were 'good/ok'--it tasted like what I'd expect, nothing really stood out, especially given the price point. The ginger soy beef was really salty and the bread turned soggy--so was difficult to finish. The Egg Salad was moreso a potato salad, it lacked seasoning and was heavier than what a "egg salad" would suggest. The most disappointing part of the experience was the cashier, who didn't seem to know the menu nor paid much attention. She was even on her phone while processing my payment. We bought two Americanos, fried chicken sandwich, egg sandwich and potato salad. Loved the fried chicken sandwich, not surprisingly tasted the exact same as the fried chicken at Anna Lena. Egg sandwich was also tasty, loved the addition of the alfalfa sprouts. I found the potato salad to be just ok, comes w fried potatoes on top which are good but I thought the actual potato salad to be too saucy (I swear there is such a thing!) and the potatoes/egg bites to be too small. I smelled the tomato soup from the person beside me and will be ordering that next time I come! Seating is limited so if you want to eat in you may very well have to wait or stand. read more

Food looks amazing, tastes terrible. Had a latte, it was sour. Had a chicken sandwich was supposed yo have jalepano aoli on it. No aoli, nothing but fried flavorless breading and weird sour vegetables that weren't listed? Ya I don't like sour, can't you tell? Had a goat crossaint, it was the only thing that was alright. The fried chicken burger did not disappoint. I'm not sure how they make the batter but it's nice and crispy and not oily. The citrus mayo sauce balances the flavors very well. If you still have room, grab a pastry like cronut or a handcrafted coffee drink. One of my go to places in Kitsilano. read more

They've been on my list since they opened and so glad I took the time to stop by this weekend. Despite the seats not being very comfortable and the space is a bit tight, I enjoyed my meal here. There's a wide selection of pastries to choose from and it changes daily (?) perhaps not that often but check their instagram for updates. I noticed Saturday's and Sunday's lineups were the same. You typically order and grab your seat after. Your sandwiches are brought to you when they're done while pastries are given to you after you paid. I'm happy that they weren't as busy as it can be. I managed to find a seat and didn't have to fight or hover above anyone. Things I've tried: - Fried chicken sandwich (4.5/5): This chicken was crispy and not overly battered but more oily that the crispy chicken I had at Annalena. The description says it had jalapeno aioli, I didn't find it spicy or had any kick at all but that's fine 'cause the taste of the sandwich was good the way it is. - Pork Cubano (4/5): This was a very greasy, heavy sandwich. This is was what I expected so no surprise there. I wished there were some jalapeno's or spicy something to cut back the grease a little. They do have hot sauce and I found myself dipping my sandwich in it between bites. Love the cheese pull I get when eating this sando. - Latte (4/5): Coffee isn't my usual beverage of choice. I'd normally get something sweet but their drink menu is basically coffee or juice. But if you look at their menu (which is what I'm doing now), it seems like there's a wider variety of drink selection. So may be if you pull it up and ask for something like matcha latte or CREAM they'd be able to make it for you. Will try next time. The latte was good though. It was very smooth and enjoyable. - Matcha Tarte (2/5): The tarte shell was undercooked and wasn't very enjoyable. The dark green colour of the tart gave me the impression of a bold matcha flavour which didn't deliver as the matcha flavour was very little. I also wasn't too fond of the gelatinous texture. - Pumpkin cronut (3.5/5): I absolutely love cronuts and Their there did a good job in making it. I didn't think the pumpkin filling was necessary and could do without. I'll definitely return. Hope their apple caramel croissant sticks around till I come back. Your neighbourhood coffee spot! If you live in Kits, around the 4th ave area, this should be your go to coffee catch up place! It's pretty interior and laid back ambience is a perfect place for a coffee and a chat. The staff are friendly albeit unmemorable, but the coffee is good and they do a lovely matcha latte! They do a great breakfast/brunch sandwich - perfect for a hangover, and their treats on display are also delicious. It's more laid back than their competitor on the strip 49th Parallel. read more

So, I randomly came across this new(?) coffee place while strolling across 4th and Kits, and I absolutely loved it. They have great staff, coffee, wifi, seating, food and pastries, basically everything! One of their staff persons told me they magically convert the place into a burger spot (and stop selling their bakery/coffee) after 5:30 (which is awesome). They even have a designated area at the back opposite to the coffee stand in which they do not allow laptops/work stuff and have gaming stations installed (how cool! Like a food and play zone). ALSO, I tried their chocolate pastry which was so h-e-a-v-e-n-l-y, it had Chocolate bread, with mousse inside and on top, and chocolate crackers. Worth the calories. read more

I was hoping to get maple brown sugar cronut and matcha one, but they didn't have them. They have a couple of flavours for every few weeks, so hopefully I get them sometime soon. The chocolate covered donut with marshmallow in the middle was so good, although I prefer strawberry over raspberry. The banana split was super good too, but too creamy, with good amount of Nutella and hazelnut crunches. Came here with my bf on a Sunday afternoon. Thank god we managed to find seats because it is such a popular place. My bf ordered two drinks: cold brew and matcha lemonade. I didn't get to try his cold brew but he said it was alright. They added way too much ice when he requested for less ice so his drink was quite diluted and lacked flavor. His matcha lemonade, however, was good even though the lemonade overpowered the matcha flavor. It was quite tart but slightly sweet as well. I, on the other hand, had a ginger lemon tonic tea which was settle but I do wish it was more gingery. Matcha Cheescake Bun (no icing) - This was alright, not my favorite. I thought it would be sweet but it was surprisingly savory. You could taste the cheesecake between the layers but the matcha was quite mild. If it had more matcha flavor, then it would be a different story. (3/5) Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant - This was absolutely delicious! The pastry was tender and flaky while the filling was rich, chocolaty and nutty. They really fill their croissants to the max because the filling was oozing out :P I also really liked that they added dollops of chocolate hazelnut spread on top with sprinkled toasted hazelnuts to provide more chocolate hazelnut flavor and goodness. (5/5) Overall, we will definitely come back here. The service was fine. I've been here before and had decent food but the most recent experience had me really disappointed. I got the s'mores donut because it looked really appetizing. The cashier even blowtorched it right in front of me. Unfortunately, the meringue was dried out and chewy, the donut was stale and doughy, and the chocolate filling was gritty and tasted like cocoa powder and whipped cream. Loved the 80s, kitschy decor and music they play. Tried their brunch menu and the items were really good, especially the roast potatoes which were perfectly done, skin was nice and crisp while insides were warm and soft. If they had made poutine with that it would've been awesome. Place was full at lunch time but at least there was no lineup outside like the competition across the street. read more

I LOVE THEIR FRIED CHICKEN BURGERS! It's the best chicken burgers I've tasted. I thought Frying pan had the best chicken burgers until I came here! Their burgers are very crispy on the outside, and juicy inside. Many other fried burgers are crispy on the outside, but the meat is very dry inside. The service was okay. It was laid back, but I came here for the food. I saw a lot of people trying to study here. This place didn't strike me as a studying place because it was really noisy. We just got a fried chicken sandwich and Cubano as well as a box of pastries to go... wow! I knew the food would be great coming from the AnnaLena crew, but was still blown away with how incredible everything tasted. It's tough to pick a favourite from what we had- but definitely have to try the Cronut and Bagel Bomb! Definitely a quaint cafe with some great selections! We came at 4pm (and the cafe closes at 4:30pm) so sadly the cafe ran out of their baked goods. One of the only thing that was left was a croissant with blue cheese and ham. Surprisingly this was actually pretty delicious! The pastry was so soft and flaky and with just the right amount of blue cheese (not too overpowering!) I also got their C.R.E.A.M drink which was an espresso with dulce milk and cream, it also came with sprinkles on top but I would opt out on the sprinkles next time. It was a very creamy drink (hence the name) but also had a great latte taste. I would definitely come back here to try their lunch menu and their matcha donut! read more

I've never tried a cronut before so I was super excited to try one after reading all the tantalizing reviews about them at Their There. Alas when I arrived I didn't see them in the display :( I asked a staff member and she told me that they only make them on weekends or special occasions but she said she hadn't seen them on sale "for awhile". Oh the devastation!! Luckily they still had the almond croissants that are also highly touted by other yelpers so I "settled" for that and a pain au chocolat to share with hubby and oh man I wasn't disappointed. Just a perfect combination of flaky, buttery, crunchy, crispy goodness. I'll be dreaming of that croissant... The pain au chocolat was also deliciously buttery but the almond croissant was incredible!! We were compelled to take a couple other treats to go; the vanilla donut was beautifully stuffed with custard and the coffee walnut financier was also fantastic. Can't wait to go back and hopefully the cronut will return! But if not, I'll just have to settle for another almond croissant...or two... read more

This place. It all started with the Hundy Brunch. I briefly met the owner a while back (don't worry- you should not remember me) and decided to look into this place. My boyfriend and I ordered the Hundy Brunch one hung over Sunday morning and it has been a ritual ever since (not the hangover, just the food). I usually get The Classic- the perfect breakfast sandwich. This thing is cheesy and eggy and topped with crispy bacon and that to die for sauce, but instead of feeling like you're eating a greasy egg mcmuffin or some god awful delicious hangover food, you bite into the alfalfa sprouts and oh so fluffy bun and realize- this aint fast food. This is quality. Then one Monday afternoon in a hunger confusion (what do I eat!?) I thought- hey let's see what Their There has for lunch! 12 lunches and 12 chillis later- I have a new favorite. My man package has been crushing the fried chicken sandwich so today I thought- lets switch it up. Ladies and gents this is the best piece of fried chook I have honestly every eaten (chews). While toppings are sparse (I didn't want the pickles) this still stands as the best chicken burger out there. MELT. IN. MOUTH. My ONLY complaints are a) they are not downtown and I have to pay an Uber eats courier a butt load of mula to get THEIR food... suppose it wouldn't hurt to get off my butt and go THERE. I walk buy this place at least three times a week on the way home from the gym. It's just that I never came before because I would feel guilty for having coffee and a pastry after my work out. This time there was no gym in session and I was doing some emotional eating, therefore, I thought that I would get this new place a try....finally. Considering that this place is owned by AnnaLena I am surprised the prices for both the coffee and pastries are very market value. It's a very cute café. There's ample seating inside, however, I made it a grab and go situation this time around. I intend to come back and make it a nice sitdown moment for myself. I was alone at the time and I didn't have a lot of battery power left on my Phone to work on my fanzine. The open kitchen concept made it entertaining for me. This time I just had a regular single shot latte with whole milk, nothing fancy and nothing modified as I normally do with my coffee. I kept it simple for the both of us. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE My friend and I came here for the first time. The girl working had dark hair and glasses and did not seem friendly at all upon our arrival. After my friend ordered, I waited right in front of the computer/card machine for my order to be taken. Instead of acknowledging me, the worker just started to chat with the customers behind me in line that just got there. I was left standing there waiting to order with my card in hand while the worker was almost standing directly in front of me and was straight up ignoring me. I waited for quite some time as she continued to talk to the customers behind me with a much friendlier demeanour. I just watched in disbelief and the worker even glanced over at me waiting for my order to be taken and did nothing about it. This was HORRENDOUS customer service if it can even be called service at all. I was very excited to try the food here, but after that experience I will not be back nor would I recommend this place to anyone. read more

Love this place. I've been here several times and am usually never disappointed. The pastries are delicious, the coffee is amazing and the breakfast sandwiches to die for. What I learned today is that you should always go earlier in the day because there is basically no pastries left by 2pm, that was disappointing. Also, I was so eager to show my group the yummy pastries, which there was lack of, but not only that, the pastry case had flies and bugs in it. That was a turnoff for sure.
