I was in a party of 3 that dined at the Yorkshire Rose in Huddersfield. The venue is a good size and has seating inside and outside. The aesthetics of the venue are good and the waiter service was good. This leads me to the food and the cons of their service. This review is based on my dining experience. It was a Saturday evening and I had noticed that half a dozen tables, at the most, had been occupied. The food order was initially for the hand battered Atlantic cod and chips, bbq burger and the cauliflower and red pepper curry. I say initially because the party then discovered that the fish and curry choices were not a available. The order was then changed to include the classic burger and the vegetable chilli. The food arrived and the party tucked in. I ordered the vegetable chilli that had a 2 chilli rating. Next, I will repeat the name of the order again but this time with emphasis on the name as being a "vegetable" chilli. The reason that I emphasise it is because the offering was very light on the vegetables. See for yourself in the picture. I forked the meal in search for them... Also, and possibly a mistake on my part, I'd read a meat-free mince as being a quorn or plant based mince though that also seemed to be missing from this serving thus, I assume, the narrative is meaning that it is literally, not included...free from being in the meal. It was certainly not of a volume that was noticeable. The tortilla chips in the picture are as they were served. The odd whole one but mostly broken. To add to it, the tortilla chips were also soft and warm. They didn't crunch, tasted cheap and old. The sauces was palatable and I can only figure that the chilli heat rating was because it was served with jalapenos... The observation issues were raised, before eating the meal, with a waiter only to be informed (after they had checked with their management/chef), that the offering was standard for the venue leaving this customer very surprised and disappointed. Overall, and trying to find a postive here, the taste was okay (no higher) for the serving (the exception being the tortilla chips that were poor). Next, I will assert that the prices for the meals and drinks are high for what you receive. The said called vegetable chilli cost a whopping £10.95!. Also, the non alcoholic ale was not in the fridge and served from the back which added to the growing perceived standards of the venue. Based on the reaction of the serving waiter of not finding the alcohol free ale in the fridge, I didn't feel it was the first time it had happened. Overall, the aesthetics of the venue itself are good though I can't resist using the saying of "Don't judge a book by it's cover". This is a deceiving venue and i definitely won't be dining there again. Based on this experience, I would encourage the venue to review the management team because it needs improvement! read more

The Yorkshire Rose is a Pub/Restaurant and it's very nice inside and outside. They have disabled parking there, outside benched tables where you can smoke/drink etc We went here with friends and it was quite packed so we sat near the childrens section lol. They have a little play corner for the under 5's but it's near to the kitchen doors which I can see an accident involving a toddler and a rushed waiter happening We ordered our food and drinks and you pay up front for this. Me and a friend had a Cola, her husband had a pint of fosters and my husband had a bulmers. The Fosters tasted weird and so we asked for it to be changed and it was promptly replaced by a better tasting one so perhaps the last one was the end of barrel or a dirty glass or something? We all had starters. Both us girls had Nachos which came with a lovely creamy dip and a spicy salsa. My husband had Potato skins which he enjoyed and the other husband had garlic mushrooms which he enjoyed too. Next was our main meals. Our friends and my husband had burgers (Ranch and some other one) and they all loved it! Apparently it was the best burger they'd ever had. I had the Ale and Hearty Pie which chips and peas, it came with garden peas, but they allowed me to change it to mushy peas instead. The pie was LUSHNESS! I've never had such a lovely pie and I stuffed as much as I could down my throat and I was WAY past the stage of feeling full, I was so upset that I couldn't fit it all in lol. Steaks were fatty, chewy, completely tasteless, comparable to a thick slab of rubber, as you'd cut into it water would come out as if it was cooked from frozen. The mushrooms accompanying the steaks were seeping with water when cut, soggy, flat, and lacklustre - like the customer service ironically! The corn was hard and under cooked. The 'sticky' chicken wings (which we paid extra for) came dry, were bland and flaky - no 'sticky' sauce to be seen. Rack of ribs - came within 3 minutes (yet apparently cooked from fresh?) as you can see from pictures clearly not grilled, tasted like they were either heated in the microwave or boiled. The sauce on the ribs didn't look like/taste like BBQ and was slapped across it (poorly at that) The pizza was doughy, under cooked. The tomato puree was watery, with the toppings sliding off the pizza as you'd pick it up. The pulled pork on the pizza was gristly with some parts just being pure fat. The pizza was completely tasteless. Only positive feedback regarding the pizza is the lashings of cheese that came with it, but then again, if I only wanted cheese, I could buy cheese and melt it for less than the £10 the pizza was worth. Manager came with a condescending and rude attitude remarking "But you ate the steak?" and going round the table: "so what was wrong with your pizza?", "so what was wrong with your ribs?" - every time we explained what was wrong he simply bombarded with other questions. claimed the food was cooked 'from fresh'. I'm not Gordon Ramsey, but you can't produce 2 steaks, several chicken wings, 3 portions of chips, 2 corn on the cobs, mushrooms, a rack of ribs and a pizza, all within a 5 minute period from fresh. The proof of that was definitely in the pudding! NEVER received even one apology! Not from the waitresses when we told them or even the manager. Manager said "just pay for drinks then" in a huff, gave us change and walked away. When you start to realise that it's yourselves who put your profit and reputation on the line when you treat the same customers who are funding your establishment and paying your wages so abysmally, maybe you'll change. read more
