I went to several events on the rooftop and the setting was stunning. The cleaning staff are also very kind. The only downside is that it is confusing to navigate. The floors all look similar and I definitely got lost a time or two....... But that could also just be my bad sense of direction....... Overall, I recommend you have your next event here!

It is also conveniently located by other food establishments and bars, all whilst having its own little bodega downstairs. I typically come here for class and only have a few reservations about the building. The rooms are cleaned frequently, I can go on the roof fore fresh air, the bathrooms are generally nice, there is a public break room with a vending machine, and there is always one open elevator downstairs to minimize waiting times. However, sometimes the wifi can be slow and in conference rooms, the passwords are re-set daily. It also can be pretty expensive to use some of the amenities (ex. using a projector in a conference room will cost more). Being located so near the Capitol, there are a lot of cool offices in the building already like NBC which means you can see celebrities casually walking through. Elizabeth Warren was in the elevator bank just a few days ago!

The amenity center offers a "Silicon Valley" feel to the workplace for the employees. The shared office space and rooftop views are spectacular. This complex has the Residences at Terrell Place which is the 10 story tower with its 29 luxury condos. Prices start at $600 thousand for a 1BR/Bath 900 sq ft condominium. The tower is part of the old Hecht's building originally built in 1924 and which served as a local retail giant for several generations. A memorial plaque on the outside street corner commemorates efforts of the building's namesake to desegregate the lunch counter at Hecht's. Shorty afterward in 1960, demonstrations and sit-ins forced nearby Peoples Drug Store, Drug Fair, Landsburgh and Woolworth Department stores lunch counters to relent and open to public. These were some of my earliest childhood memories of the Civil Rights movement.

You could rollerblade in the space (although I don't suggest that!). The technology consists of reactive media, which makes the lobby area beautiful and special. I checked in with the front desk and was directed to wait for my meeting. I walked around the space and while it was really busy I was pleasantly surprised at how much space there was. This located is multiple leveled with small and large conference rooms, seperate phone booths for private conversations and regular meeting spaces. I really enjoyed that there was a kitchen that users can access. There's coffee, and in the late afternoon there is a beer and cider tap. My understanding is members pay a monthly fee to utilize the space. The more the member pays the better the perks. The space is very inviting and "hip"- I need to learn more lingo. I'm glad I was able to check this place out and it's a great spot of you are running a business and need a central location.

But the space itself / office policies have some issues: - It is really dark. The lights are never completely on - they seem to have all of the lights on a dimmer set very low. In the interior offices it's like working in a closet with a 10 watt lightbulb hanging above you, or feels like you are in a basement. Kind of depressing. - Hall meetings. They have set up a few companies with numerous single or small offices in a row, as opposed to putting everyone into a larger single office. Which I'm sure those workers like, but what happens is that they then treat the hallway as their meeting space - they leave all of their office doors open, and yell at each other across / down the hall, and constantly take calls / have impromptu meetings in the hall. Great for them - not great for everyone else in the hall who doesn't want to hear it all day. This alone is enough to make us want to find a different office provider as we have constant confrontations with two groups that do this - they basically use the entire hallway as their office.

With that being said, I've been on a hunt for place where I can get some focused work done (in an environment conducive to productivity)... I've outgrown the coffee shop stage, but I've not quite graduated to leasing a dedicated full-time office space and the search was on! I never imagined something as simple simple finding a spot to clear my mind & work would prove to be so challenging. Well, after reaching out to a couple of well-known coworking spaces (who will remain nameless) that never responded, and dropping by a couple of spots that were either too crowded or just didn't have "the vibe", I FINALLY ran across The Hive! WOW!!! I can't believe this place was not on yelp! If you haven't been to The Hive, you are SLEEPING!!!... I was sleeping.... Now...let me start by by letting you know that the Hive is located in good ol' Southeast... And I'm NOT talkin about the Capital Hill side of SE. To some, makin their way to that side of the river may not seem too appealing, but with the Hive being conveniently located less than 1/4 mile off of of the freeway (295), the area was still a go for me! Once I arrived and walked through the front door, I immediately felt different than when walking in the others. I proceeded to enter The Hive 2.0 and it was just what I needed! The setting is neat & trendy and really inviting. They were having an event (small business sba seminar) on this particular evening which really gave me the impression that they go above and beyond to empower their members to succeed. I sat in for a few minutes at the seminar and then I snuck out to get some work done... ~ aaahhhhh... FOCUS! Exactly what I was looking for. It was so easy for me to focus and get work done. And Nikki & Jeff (the staff there) are absolutely AWESOME! Their friendly, down-to-earth personalities alone make you want to join! Whether you just need a touch down place to get a lil' work done, a dedicated desk, or a full-fledged office, the Hive 2.0 has an option for you! Room for growth - I do wish there were a few more "evening" folk there during after hours, because it seems to get a bit quiet after 6 or 7pm... Even though the area is not really bad, I'd most definitely feel more comfortable w/a few others being there, since I'm a late night owl and would probably be walking to my car at night. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at the Hive 2.0 - I'll most definitely be back soon. :).
