LOVE LOVE LIVE this store and the owner! Seriously one of the coolest places I've ever shopped at. You have to go there and see the Boot Wisperer. It's a once in a lifetime experience. You make an appointment and Ulli the owner finds the absolute perfect boot for your feet. You don't even need to tell her what size you are or the weird idiosyncrasies of your feet. I tried on two pairs and bought the second pair. These are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn in my entire life. She only deals with high-quality boots. You HAVE to stop by. I don't even know how to put into words the experience I had there. After scheduling an appt, my group arrived to be greeted by Uli, who already felt like family. I had read reviews and heard rumors of The Boot Whisperer, but thought it too good to be true. She. Is. Perfect. Her first pull for me fit PERFECTLY and was literally exactly what I was looking for, even though I didn't tell her. She then *tirelessly* pulled options for all of us for a total of two and a half hours. We were never pressured to purchase a thing. She made sure everything fit right. Some options didn't work for various reasons, so we gave feedback, and she adjusted. It was amazing. I walked out with 3 new pair that feel like the things missing from my life. I am so grateful for her patience and care, while we tried on dozens of boots until we found what we wanted. read more

We called ahead, described our goal (swanky wedding boots!), and were told to hustle. The Boot Whisperer is German, and she embodies most stereotypes - clipped, efficient, and not in the mood to deal with people who want to waste her time. But very sweet if you really have your heart set on buying boots and taking the time to try them out. Maybe that's "ornery"? We liked it, because she sized up my man's feet and brought him the right boots, then brought him a series of wrong boots, to let him get the feel for how boots can vary. She wouldn't advise him to buy the cheaper ones that wouldn't stretch out. And she said we had to run them outside into the sunlight, as leather does look different in the Texas heat waves. Good boots start around $200, but plan on at least $300 if you want to have some fun. Might be looking at a good anniversary gift when it's my turn to get boots again! Cash and check only. The best experience! We were in town for a bachelorette party and called ahead--she offered to stay open for our group and generously offered the "boot whispering" experience with zero sales pressure. She boot whispered our entire group of 6 girls perfectly!!!! I wanted to purchase a pair of boots as she has SO MANY AMAZING unique boots to pick from. She was very patient as I tried on many pairs and asked many questions and again, zero sales pressure. In fact she told me maybe 7 times to NOT buy a pair unless I was totally in love with them. She was very personable and accommodating to our group. Would love to visit again when I'm in Texas and add to my new boot collection!!!! read more

For six years my wife and I searched for a pair of classic western boots for me, everywhere between Fort Worth and Tucson. None of the stores we went to had anything I'd pay hard cash for. We were vacationing at Onion Creek Kitchens at Juniper Hills Farms, which is near Wimberly, and decided to go to church in Wimberly. To get there we drove directly past the Wild West Store, which looked so unusual and cool we immediately decided to investigate on our way back. Am I ever glad we did. We met Ulle, who was with another customer when we walked in, she was back in a flash and asked "Would you like to be whispered?" .... "Uhhh, sure." I said. She looked at my feet, asked a couple of questions about what I'd like and whisked away, only to return in seconds with a boot in each hand. "Which one would you like to try on?" she said, and my eye was drawn to the classic black Nocona in her right hand. "That one." I replied. She gave it to me, I put it on and it was like I'd slipped on one of the boots I'd had as a teenager. "Would you like the other?" As if she had to ask. My wife was whispered as well, and we left extremely satisfied, with two pairs of boots that elicit comments whenever we wear them. I whole heartedly recommend stopping by the store, though due to family illness that's only by appointment at this point. I am the proud owner of 2 pairs of boots from the Boot Whisperer. I would say the only way you will get a bad fitting pair of boots is if you dont follow her recommendation. I have the most painful feet and never believed that I could be comfortable in anything but Dansko's and Birkenstocks. Ulli hooked me up 2x with the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. When I get back to Austin, i will absolutely rent a car to drive to Wimberly. read more

Ulli was recommended to me by no less than 5 people when I asked around about the best cowboy boots. Finally made it out last weekend and it was such a beautiful experience. She is highly passionate, professional, and knows so much about her trade. She whispered my friend - asked him to stand with bare feet and immediately bought out the most glorious pair of black and white rock-star boots (which he ditched in favor of a more modest and slightly more comfortable brown pair). Ulli is the one and only "boot whisperer". I have narrow feet with a high instep. She just looks as your feet no talking involved. This is my second year coming to her. My first pair of boots are vintage and I feel in love with "cowboy boots". I saved all year and just bought my second pair. The second you put on a pair she has chosen for you, you simply just know they were meant for you. This time I spent a lot of money and I think I might sleep with them. Haha. I love you Ulli. Update, when I finally made it back to the WWS the boots I wanted were gone. But Ulli whispered both me and my friend and we both walked away with awesome boots that fit us both. She told me if I'm looking for something specific to put it out into the universe and come back another time. The Boot Whisperer at the Wild West store is Amazing with a capital A!! I bought a pair of boots there recently and recommend this store very highly. I wondered into this gem of a store by chance--I had never heard of it--and was astounded by the selection of boots and other trinkets. After walking around on my own, the owner approached me and told me about how she matches people with boots by simply looking at people's feet. I was skeptical, but thought it would be fun to try and I am so glad I did. I have been looking for boots for years, and her selection for me fit perfectly (and I have hard to fit feet--very narrow and high arch), was a great price at just under $200, and they were the same pair I eyed up when I first walked into the store. I tried on another pair to be sure, but her pick hit the nail on the head!! Everything in her store is high quality and she knows her inventory like the back of her hand. Plus, she gave me great tips to keep my new boots in great shape for the future. Definitely stop here if you are in the area!! read more
