However in less than a week he went from apprehensive about the new place, to loving to go to school in the morning. If you ask him if he had fun at school today he'll answer something like "yes..... read books, danced, played in sandbox!!' (which is a pretty articulate response for a 22 month old). The staff is attentive/fun/well qualified and the facility is amazing (huge sandbox, lots of playgrounds, a track for wheeled vehicles, nature trails, gardens, a rubberized indoor play area for rainy days etc). They also feed the kids good healthy meals (my 22 month old ate a ton of asparagus, one of his favorite foods, the other day). I should also point out that they are a NAEYC and Youngstar 5 star facility, so no worries there.

But Red Caboose is different. It's nonprofit, the staff is represented by a union and get actual benefits, and that means that a lot of the staff sticks around for a long time. Decades. My kid is now thriving. I love Red Caboose so much that now I volunteer - it's governed by a board that's largely made up of parents. Can't recommend it highly enough for toddler and pre-school kiddo care.

The daycare is the only unionized day care in Madison and as a result has many experienced teachers who get paid decently in an industry plagued by staff turnover and low wages and no benefits (one of my clients told me every teacher at her center was on energy assistance benefits and I know that's not true at Red Caboose). The atmosphere is loving and inclusive. One of my daughter's teachers literally risked his life to defend his two year olds when an intruder came into to prior location 13 years ago. There is currently a campaign against the center by a group of largely childless individuals who are angry at one of the after school staff. Don't let this sway your ratings. It's been the only day care accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Madison for many many years.

I have peace of mind knowing my little girl is safe and she is getting an education I could not provide to her while working full time.

Other babies in the same room (he's 9mo old now) had snot running down their faces with no one even wiping it up. We dropped him off today just for a few hours and were told since we did not let them know last friday (my girlfriend gets her work schedules on saturdays) that we were not going to have him there for two half days again this week we would have to pay for it anyways... another 133.00 for two hours of baby sitting! HIGHWAY ROBBERY PEOPLE! I will be reporting these jerks to the better business bureau. DO NOT bring your children here if you care about them at all.
