When you remember how old this cathedral is and think about what it must have been like to build, it is especially impressive. We went for a Sunday morning service in English at noon. They also offer services in French, and a biliingual service. I would have loved to go to the bilingual, however it started at 9 AM and it wasn't in our plans to get up, ready and there early enough for that. There isn't really a lot of parking, however it is located right near the byward market, parliament and other noteworthy places to visit in Ottawa so we walked over. While they don't want to walking around during the actual masses, check the schedule and stop by for a visit before or after any services. It is free to come in and walk around and appreciate the beauty of this place. I highly encourage you to do so!

I apologized, took off my cap. I tracked down the authoritarian that chided me and explained they're prescription. I am stunned that there is this level of discipline imposed on a tourist, while over 200 churches in Canada have been burned down to date, yet ZERO concern emitted by Canadian church authorities, ZERO press conference by Canada's Bishop, ZERO outrage by the almighty Pope. After I came back he told me he threw it out by "accident" which lowkey hurt my feelings but also made me realized how much I was addicted to junk food. My wife and I have been frequenting this cinema on countless occasions past and this is the first time that such a situation arises. It's almost as if the cinema operator turned the volume down on purpose. I repeat: this low volume situation has n-e-v-e-r happened to us throughout the countless films we've seen at this cinematic complex, save and except for the movie: "Sound of freedom".

We got to visit the House of Commons and witness the room where political entropy normally formulates. I have always enjoyed the Gothic style of the building proper. Unfortunately, it has been undergoing renovations for the past few years now, and from what I can tell from my friends who worked on those projects, the renovations won't be ending anytime soon. It's a shame for tourists and visitors to not be able to see the view in its full grandeur, but there is consolation in visiting the various buildings and getting a look at Canada's political history. As far as I'm aware, the Peace Tower, Senate, and House of Commons are free to visitors. Be aware of the wait times to get in, though, but your mileage may vary depending on the Covid climate and peak hours.

The museum is pretty large. There was a lot of beautiful art and exhibits. A few exhibits had some sort of interactive function (like interactive screens and screens to flip through info). Depending on your vacation schedule and free time, you may not be able to see everything in a couple of hours.

The tour took us to the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada courtrooms. All the…read morematerial in areas accessible to the public are foreign and expensive building material while the washrooms and non-publicly accessible areas used Canadian building material. The ceilings of the court are high to express the stature and importance of the Supreme Court of Canada. I have to say, the washrooms were nice too. Security staff were courteous, unlike the Supreme Court of the United States - think that says much about Canada. :) Interestingly, the chairs of the judges of the SCC are all custom made so that all the judges sit all around at the same level. As a lawyer, you only get an hour to make a concise argument for your case so the importance of written factums (written submissions) are very important. Typically cases are heard in 1 day, but there are cases that take 2 days to be heard due to the high number of intervenors. The library, which is not accessible to the public, takes up most of the third floor of the building. For the general public, the library isn't probably somewhere you'd want to see or check out. It's has the legislation of all provinces/territories, secondary sources, and also European/British sources too. You can only borrow books for typically 24 hours.

Anyway, you just walk up to Parliament Hill 15 minutes or so before it starts (start times posted on their webpage), find a good spot to sit on the grass, and wait for the show to start. Bring a picnic blanket or something if you like ... if it's rained recently, the grass might not be too nice. The entire front face of the Parliament Building is the screen for this culture-infused video/light show that is Mosaika. It was somehow politically charged. I'm not too good with symbolism in the arts, but the European hand kept taking stuff from the First Nations hand, and gave very little in return. Plus there was a lot of French-English controversy. and no Asian representation. Spoiler alert: it all ends happily? Somehow all these differences come together through lights and music to form a happy Canada today. Also, there was a turtle involved somehow. I will admit that it got very very very very awkward at the end when people started to stand up and sing "O Canada!" I was just kicked back on the grass chillin, and I didn't know what to do. but hey, all this for a grand total of zero dollars!! It's definitely worth the cost of free, and that's why it gets five stars!

The Sound and Light Show mainly attracts tourists and families, but I often see many different people out at the show. It basically feels like a crazy, amped up Cliff's Notes version of elementary school social studies. You can't help but get drawn into the energy and feel happy you're able to partake in something like this on Parliament Hill's lawn. Obviously, there are parts where you feel like you're partaking in a bit of propaganda, so take the show with a grain of salt. Actually, the last time I went, the show was usurped by a couple of protesters, including one who peed on the building. I guess it offered a balance through extremes? Anyway, I would definitely recommend this free offering to anyone looking to do something a bit stereotypically Ottawa (capital of Canada, not city of Ottawa). It's a good time, energizing and kinda weird/funny.

We really enjoyed our guided tour through the automated facility and our guide was especially knowledgeable. The production facility was closed while we were there. We asked many questions. They are globally known for bullion and collector coins that are .9999 purity standards. Only Canada and Australia produce that purity. The collective collection honors Queen Elizabeth. No photos allowed in the facility. They have a nice gift shop where coins, collector pieces, bullion and other items can be purchased. We purchased a few items and everyone in the gift shop was so nice.

Wow, this sculpture has its own Yelp listing, lol…read more It was created by Canadian artist Noel Harding and is made of stainless steel. It's at the corner of Kent and Slater streets and was erected in 2009. I drive by it all the time. It pretty much looks like a giant teapot to me, lol. I like public art, so I think it's cool. It's also a good landmark for directions like "once you see the giant stainless steel teapot, you're almost there." Lol. Review #60 (2026)
