Not bad. I first came to Tiger's tale about 9 years ago, shortly after moving to NJ. I decided to try it again after all this time. The place was really packed, even on a Thursday night. I recall waiting a long time to get in on a weekend many years back. The menu had a decent selection of good comfort food, and bar classics. I split a plate of fried calamari with a friend. My cajun chicken alfredo pasta entree came with a soup. I went with the manhattan clam chowder, which I thought was a winner. The entree itself wasn't too bad either. The deduction of stars comes from the very spotty service, as well as the prices. I thought it was slightly on the pricey side. $14.99 for a plate of fried calamari that would normally go for about 10-11 bucks somewhere else. I will certainly be back, but hopefully I wont be paying that time. read more

Avoid the college bars in Princeton and head just barely north to the this gem of a local institution that is unpretentious and ambitious at the same time. The daily specials list would be enough a menu for most, but they offer a full-menu with everything from classic pub fare, seafood, large entrée salads, main meals, sandwiches of all varieties, and indulgent desserts. Love seeing the grill items made in front of you on grill in the middle of bar area. The draft beer selection is one of the best in the area, and the wine by the glass options are value friendly with something for everyone. Often can be crowded moving around the bar area once the place fills up. Many bar stools that are rarely empty, plus a full dining room with some high-top tables and a handful of booths in the bar area. Wide cross-section of community all feel comfortable here. Over the years have tried the burgers, seared scallop and shrimp salad, many soups, occasional specialty martini, and indulgent apple pie. read more

Had excellent lobster roll. Lot of lobster in light toasted roll. Another. Person had grilled trout which they were very pleased with. Another guest had beer battered flounder. I am giving a 4 rating not only for the food but the interior bumps it up a few notches for me. Really like the big rectangular bar which is great if you can get your sports game on the TV in front of you but the bartenders were very friendly and gotta love them cooking on a grill in the middle of the bar space. Where else do they do this? They gotta be careful when busy to serve drinks, serve food, and get back to the grill so don't overcook the food. They said they got it down so that is pretty cool. Really like the fresh popped popcorn to eat with beer as you wait for food or just chill and watch sports on the TV's. They have a nice selection of beers on tap, tried the dogfish and fat tire both IPA's and both very good. For food, started with the buffalo wings. They were a good size, which is always a plus, nice crisp from the fryer, and good sauce. Can't complain, would get that again if go back. Also had the "Original" Tigers Tale Chicken sandwich which is a chicken breast dredged in cajun spices, grilled, and served with jack cheese and sauteed onions on garlic bread and the grouper sandwich which is basically a grouper reuben sandwich on rye. Best burger in town! There's not a lot of dining options in Montgomery Township but these folks grill a darn good burger. Quality beef, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Nice charbroiled flavor. And if you ask for rare or medium rare, that's how you get it. To the cheap clown whining about the coupon, you ALWAYS get the equal or lesser meal comp'd when you have a buy one, get one free coupon. Overcrowded. If there were a fire, we'd all die. I walk in, and immediately have at least two gallons of beer spilled on me. On any given day there's some kind of sports game on the televisions which crowds hundreds of middle-age drunk men like a watering hole in North Africa during desertification. Even on a Wednesday I am not immediately seated. The waitresses are obviously under aged and know not how to serve you. They give you a stupid buzzer thing that practically makes me feel like I'm having a seizure when it goes off. After being sat, I can't have a delightful meal despite the good content of the meals. I am constantly being greeted by people I met seven years ago and I did NOT want to meet again. Overall, I like the food. Hate the place. read more

Me and the SO have stopped by here several times for lunch, since it is not far from his jobsite. There are things I like about this place but also have some "reservations" about a few things. The best thing I like about here is the bar side. A large bar with several TVs, all on sports channels. The music that was playing each of the time we were here was oldies, fun but not overwhelming or obnoxious. The atmosphere is what I like, friendly and comfortable. The thing I was not impressed with was the food (meh). The SO has raved about just about everything he orders from here (he normally orders some kind of fish). I had the pulled pork sliders and while the pork was tender, it was pretty bland. I could not identify what the sauce was because I could not taste it. Now the bleu cheese cole slaw was good (and I requested it on the side). I probably need to try something else. read more

The tale is your classic neighborhood bar. Not pretending to be anything other than that. If you're looking for fine dining/gourmet, go elsewhere. Great burgers and sandwiches and good bar food. Their nachos can't be beat! Cajun chicken salad and the spinach bacon salad are surprisingly good and consistent as well. The brownie sundae is amazing. Probably my favorite place so far in the Princeton area. It's kind of divey but they have a huge menu with great food! I've pretty much always had something from their specials list. The lobster roll was amazing! We went in for Tuesday crab night and it was great and a very good price! We also came in for prime rib Wednesday, it was huge and tasty! There is something for everyone on their menu, it's so extensive! I took away one star because we've only had one friendly server so far out of all the times we have been here. The food is pretty good, nothing to get excited about. It is what bars should be like. Most fall short of this. The standard food (burgers, ribs, wings) are well done. The prime rib was disappointing and the steaks are just ok in general. But for a surf and turf for under $20 with sides its a great value. Fish and chips are spot on. They do make the effort to make the menu varied and for this I give them quite a bit of credit. Lobster sliders, mignon tip sandwich w/ bearnaise, a grouper reuben type thing thats great, tilapia is solid. The dinner salad (even with the tiny shrimp) is just right. There is a lot more on the menu that I am interested in trying. I guess this is its main strength. Its a bar/restaurant, but unlike others actually made an effort to create an interesting and varied menu. Furthermore, they were successful at this endeavor. Unlike many restaurants (at any price point) they dont serve just the standard fare. Admittedly some dishes fall very short (the asian sesame yellowfin - but the wasabi mashed was great). But I am curious to try the rest of the food and I like the staff and atmosphere (in the restaurant anyway). This started out as a 3 star review but 4 is really more appropriate. Wings, wings, and more wings! I love the wings here. Not sure if its the size of the wings, although that does make it better, but these things are just really good. I prefer getting wings without the sauce so that I get an idea of how they're made and I get to keep that crispiness from the frying. I definitely enjoy the fact that they're not overcooked but they're cooked just enough so that the cartilage comes off cleanly. I don't like wasting anything on the wings, so when everything falls off the bone, I'm impressed and thoroughly satisfied. The wings are fried so that the actual skin can peel right off, not like some places where the skin and meat are overfried and you can't tell what's what. These are the traditional wings so they have no breading and they really make the night, especially with the different choices of beers this place has to offer. I was going to give 5 stars but some of the other food isn't that great. Their chili is drowned in cheese, when it said it came with cheese, that's not what I was expecting. Their cheese fries are the same. The person who made them either wasn't paying attention or didn't care how much was put on them. There was more cheese than fries, and it wasn't really good cheese. I've been here quite a few times. It's one of our old stand bys when we can't think of any place to go. There is a small dining area, and some tables around the bar. Table service is much better than the bar service. I dont' think I've ever ordered something that disappointed me. The Tiger's Tale Chicken Sandwich is awesome and the Fish Tacos are fantastic (though i'd order them without cilantro next time) It's good food, cold beers and reasonable prices... Went here last night with my parents for my Dad's birthday. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, so we went to the bar. Even though I'm 25 I look like I'm at least a decade younger, so I know the bartenders weren't too pleased to see me sitting at the bar, however short it was of a duration, and despite the fact I only got a diet coke. They gave us free popcorn, and we munched on that. My Dad got a wine, and Mom got an Appletini. The beeper thingie they gave us to alert our table opening up was great-no confusion there. I headed over to the table and then our waitress was there immediately. She was GREAT! Knew the menu inside-out, and was comprehensive and fast. I ordered the Uncle's Tuna Tips Special (comes with onions, cherry tomatoes, and small pieces of toast on a skillet) and the spinach side side. My Dad got the Prime Rib special with broccoli, and Mom got the Lobster sliders. All our food was really good, and filling. I boxed some of mine up and my Dad some of his. Cute and comfortable inside, with a large, inviting bar. I thought it was cool that they grill food in the open in the bar area-very different and nice to see. We've been coming here for probably 15 years now whenever we're in the Princeton area or for a special occasion. It's a small place that can get crowded by the traffic light its at (in recent years that intersection backs up like you won't believe) but still easily reachable and good, accommodating staff. read more

I went here for the first time recently to join some people for trivia night. Overall, I enjoyed it and I will definitely be willing to go back. But I haven't figured out if I like the place or if it's merely just okay. First, there were 8 of us for trivia, and it took us over an hour to get seated on a Wednesday night. Which tells you how popular this place apparently is. We actually had to start trivia when we were standing, wedged into the corner between a large table and people sitting at the bar. They really pack you in here! (Trivia started at 8 and the first person in our group arrived at 6:45 to put our names down for a table.) I ordered the grouper sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp and corn chowder and a Guinness. The soup was good, but I didn't feel like there was anything super special about it. My boyfriend raved over it, though, so it may have just not been my thing. The grouper sandwich was large and perfectly cooked, while the fries were the perfect level of crispy. My only complaint is that the sauce and slaw on the grouper was a little sparse and the slaw was not as tasty as it could have been. If they put a little more sauce (or even just a thing of sauce on the side) and kicked up the slaw just one more notch, it would have been perfect. Also, the Guinness seemed to come in a small glass, not sure what was up with that. But it was definitely not a pint. The only other thing I have to say is that it is a little pricy. The entrees were all priced $20+. But it seems like you get good value for the money. I just wouldn't be able to go often. Came here for lunch on a Monday. Inside the place looks like a dark dingy little dove bar/restaurant in a small little town. The inside is moderately right with old wooden chairs and the like. The food though was quite worth it. I come here for the lobster sliders. Having lived in New England it's hard to get lobster rolls south of those island. The lobster sliders here are exquisite. The lobster salad is plentiful, it's not as chunky and New England style but still incredibly delicious and plenty of it. The sliders come in 3 little rolls, the bread is like a soft hamburger roll, served with old bay seasoning chips. I would keep coming back for the lobster rolls because I have yet to find anything comparable for a good price. read more

Great deal! We went when there was a half priced appetizer special and was happy with the food we good. The grilled clams were great and not overcooked- simple, yet delicious The calamari was crispy and served with a mound of tomato sauce The buffalo wings were a bit over fried with minimal amounts of sauce, but overall, they were not greasy or breadded and tasted somewhat healthy. Great local town bar/restaurant. Their burgers are good as well as the wings. I have had the Tigers Tale chicken sandwich a couple of time and its also a good. Portions are above average so order accordingly or you will have a lot of food left over. They have a pretty good beer selection and the mixed drinks are no bad also. They do get busy so be prepared to wait 20-30 mins on Friday/Saturday evenings for a table after 6pm. They are kid friendly, our boys like to go here since they give popcorn from the bar to the kids a the tables to munch on - best to sit in the restaurant side (away from the bar) during happy hour or late evenings just to avoid the mixing of "adult" conversations with the younger ears. read more

Really amazing nachos and bar food. However, I am disappointed with the cleanliness. This is a pandemic. Every restaurant uses paper or online menus. This restaurant used regular menus and didn't clean them. Once we used them, they took them back to give to the next people. Also, when I went in to the bathroom, there were workers with their masks down inside the place. When they saw me, they lifted the masks back up. Although the food is great, it did not feel clean. Stopped in here for a drink the other night. I did not have any food so I cannot comment if their food has changed since I last reviewed them back in 2015. The service remains quick and efficient. My wife and I tried this place out for the first time... we will not be returning. Ordered chili that was pretty bland and room temperature to start. Also ordered the Jersey fries which weren't bad but came with the most artificial cheese sauce I've ever had. Thankfully that was on the side. We both ordered burgers which were absolutely terrible. First off, it came with a huge pickle that they placed under the potato chips because who doesn't like soggy chips??? It also had a coleslaw... that was blissfully uneventful. The burgers themselves? Well the grill must be in need of a cleaning because even though they were pink on the inside they were charred to death on the outside. They also decided not to season the meat at all. We both only took two bites before we began planning our escape. Yet I held out hope that the waitress upon seeing our nearly untouched plates would perhaps ask about our meal... nope. Asked if we wanted a box or if she could just clear them. Then had the audacity to ask if we wanted coffee or desert! I guess she was just on autopilot or something. After we left the char taste lingered on like a bad smell until we got home to our precious water pick! Haven't had a bad meal/bad service combination like this in a while! read more

I completely love this restaurant, even for all its quirks. Although usually crowded, the Tiger's Tale tavern is a great place to get a (somewhat large!) meal that everyone can enjoy, if you have an hour+ to spare! Their service can be slow at times, and the atmosphere sort of loud. But, at least they have added better lighting to the place, as it used to be really dimmly lit and the whole place smokey (thankfully they solved that problem as well). I recommend the calimari, cheese sticks, cheddar burger, and brownie a la mode for a perfect dinner! :) read more

Standard tavern, local sports pub kind of place. The bar is pretty big, always packed, and there are plenty of TVs. The food is decent - nothing spectacular, but they have a lot of choices so everyone will be happy. I did ask if they had fried pickles, which they didn't, but they offered to make them for me. I thought that was pretty cool. My husband likes this place - he can get his bar time in and have a drink and watch the game and I sit at the bar and people watch. Sounds great to me. read more

Pretty cool local bar with awesome daily specials. We came on Tuesday for the king crab special, it was very good and reasonably priced. We also returned the following day on Wednesday for prime rib night. It was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I've been to Tigers Tale many times over the last few years and normally have nothing to say but great things. I regularly recommend it to anyone who is in the area. However they refuse to take a reservation for less than four people. My husband and I had lunch last week on their patio. I didn't want deep fried fare that was offered in tacos, but when waitress offered grilled salmon it sounded good. Since it's not a Mexican restaurant I didn't expect perfection, but what I got was so very far from it. The salmon arrived in 2 cold soft taco shells that hadn't even been warmed. A copious amount of salmon was plopped in each shell, with a small slice of avocado on each. A little side of "pineapple" salsa, featuring canned pineapple, was really sad. I ate one taco because I was hungry, and regretted it. It was nauseating. Since item wasn't on menu, I expected a fair price in the $15 range. It was shocking to see it priced at $28 on our bill. Obviously, the tacos were stuffed wi the large amount of unappetizing salmon to legitimize the outrageous cost, showing totally poor skill and judgment in the kitchen. My husband's Turkey burger was dry and the way-too-big roll unappetizing. The fries arrived lukewarm. Our server was very nice and trying to cover several busy tables. When she asked,"How was it?" while walking by our table, we doubted that she heard our, "Not so good." It was our first and last trip to Tiger's Tale, which we really wanted to like. Had to ask 3 times just to get a diet soda kept bringing out an ice tea. best was when they combined the tea and soda together in the glass. Ordered sweet sausage and eggplant parm eggplant was mushy with no taste. sausage wasn't sweet it tasted boiled and had hardly any taste at all. The onion soup is awesome and next time if I come I'll be just ordering soup. I'm thinking glass of water. In case they want to mix drinks watered down tea isn't as bad as soda tea combo. read more
