I have made a strong and bold statement rating this place as 5, as good as it gets, but I actually cannot fault the ideology behind this shop. Ethical clothes and shoes; ALL the shoes I the store are vegetarian, some of the clothes are recycled, made from other clothes deemed unfit for sale remodeled into something new and unique, crafted in Manchester and sweat-shop free. Similarly some of the labels in the shop are the owners very own designs printed in the UK. Fred Perry is in stock - I don't know how ethical this brand is - and there are buttons turned into earrings. Rockabilly, skateresque, alternative clothing with and ethical edge; worth a look and a buy. Some of the labels are what I consider expensive but this is the right of niche markets, some are a little less so. read more

This shop sells clothes that are fashionable, well made, and ethical! Who wouldn't want to shop here? It is strangely placed at the back of the Merrion Centre near the belly dancing shop but this makes it seem all the more special and unique. They sell vegetarian shoes - not shoes made out of vegetarians but shoes that do not use any animal products such as leather or glue. Despite this unusual selling point, the shoes are just as trendy as non-vegetarian ones! The 'Ethletic' ethical shoe range imitates the All Star Converse trainer. The clothes range includes Fred Perry shirts and items from a Manchester designer who brings together old clothes to make new ones! This makes them totally original. There are some great t-shirts and sweaters with screen prints on made by British designers too. Don't let the idea of independent local designers put you off as these clothes are no pricier than any other high street clothes store. The added bonus is they look better and there is less chance of seeing someone walking down the street with the same top as you. read more

This unusual little shop is hidden away in a slightly obscure part of the Merrion Centre. Though providing the Merrion centre with much-needed character in terms of their range of shops, it is a shame Third Estate doesn't have a more prominent, visible location as it really makes a valuable addition to independent clothing retail in Leeds. Third Estate has an ethical focus in its product range, including the brand Vegetarian Shoes, some recycled items, and Fred Perry, which is made in England, providing valuable support to the British manufacturing industry and bucking the trend of the vast majority of fashion brands who have relocated manufacture to countries in which labour is cheap, and working conditions often dire. I am a big fan of Third Estate because it provides clothing with principles that is also highly wearable; a combination that unfortunately is still in short supply, especially on the high street. Much of the clothing is in a style that would appeal to teenage and twenty something skater types. With preppy t-shirts, converse styles shoes, as well as some more interesting and original items. The ethical slant doesn't compromise style, enabling those who enjoy their clothes to do it without the guilt induced by a high street chain store shopping spree. Yes! read more

This cute little shop, situated in the much overlooked back area of the merrion centre, is a fabulous place to browse vintage style dresses, fair trade trainers and quirky men's printed t-shirts. I was doing my last minute panic shop for Christmas and managed to find some lovely presents within. It's a touch pricier than I'd hoped but the quality is evident. The staff were utterly friendly and made a real effort to help me find what I wanted too. I was particularly enamoured of the dresses, I believe to be forties in style, hand made and in delightful printed material. They ranged from roughly thirty to seventy pounds and whilst there wasn't a huge range virtually all of them would have been a happy addition to my ever-growing wardrobe! All in all I would highly recommend stopping by for a browse. It's a delightful little shop! read more

Fantastic vegan clothing store with super friendly proprietors -- very helpful and funny. I was impressed with the selection of vegan shoes and ended up with two pairs (plus some tights!). Loads of super cute items for women and men (it's not just a women's shop with men's clothing as an after thought). I wish I could go back there now and get MORE shoes!!! read more

Best vegan/ethical store I have ever been to - it had classy clothes, shoes and wallets, which can be very hard to find as a vegan (many times you only see hippy kinds of things). Prices were reasonable as far as vegan fashion goes. And man who runs the places was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back. read more

I dropped into this cool wee store while on a weekend away in London. It's a really great looking store with a well laid out shoe selection. The clothing is labeled with tags denoting ethical considerations (fair trade, recycled, vegan etc) which makes it easy to search for items which fit your ideas, if not style too :) There's a small offering of locally produced items as well as accessories for those stylish clothing/shoe purchase you're bound to have made. My only issue with the store is that it's a little bare, maybe that's due to my visit falling post-xmas, but I think they could utilise the space better & offer a greater selection. Unfortunately there's nowhere like this place where I live so I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in London. read more

Holy crap this place is amazing! The blond woman working (sorry can't remember her name) was so nice and helpful! We showed up 10 mins before closing after we had ran down there from our Air BnB which was really far away. She helped my husband figure out his UK size (we're American) and gave us tips on amazing vegan restaurants, which led us to have the best meal of our trip. She didn't pressure us to leave even though I'm pretty sure they were closed (sorry to have kept you if you're reading this). Their selection of vegan shoes and clothing was the largest I've ever seen, and they have a very large selection of men and women's Matt & Nat hand bags, wallets, backpacks, briefcases, and weekend bags. I highly recommend this place to vegans and non vegans alike. read more

I love this shop! I went shopping there recently and felt like I'd known the girl there (Angela?) for years! Really friendly and not in a pushy sales way she genuinely wanted me to only buy something that looked great! The ethical stance can't be faulted and it seems like a lot of research is done into the brands they stock! Plus one off designer pieces that aren't too pricey at all considering that I think everything is sweatshop free. Get lost Primark we are over you and want some decent clothes that don't make us feel guilty. Get your outfits quick as I hear they may be moving to London soon but I hope not.........although I will hunt them down whenever I'm in London. The 3rd estate rocks big time! read more

This place is the cream of the crop. The selection is great, even for men's shoes. The staff are warm, knowledgeable and generally very helpful. The store also has a great atmosphere. Look out for the dioramas set into cracks in the floor! I will definitely be back. read more
