I heard this was a must spot to grab tacos in San Diego so on we went! We got 6 different tacos to try and our favorites were the spicy shrimp tacos and the grilled fish tacos. The corn tortillas were so fresh and thin! Don't skimp on ordering the chunky guac & chips to pair with all the salsas they have to offer! We also ordered the corn on the cob and it's probably the best corn on the cob I've ever had! Everything is made fresh so the wait to get your food did take a bit! read more

The food at Taco Stand is always extremely fresh and flavorful. This was my first trip to the Encinitas location. The camaron and baja tacos were delicious. The service was friendly and adequate. I will say the only complaint is the seating. It's really a free for all and quite a mess trying to find a spot to sit. read more

Running around Encinitas can make you a bit peckish, and what better than grabbing a quick taco or two. This restaurant is right on the main drag, and a bustling location for the youth, as the 20 somethings were all about, with the 30-40 and 50+ stepping through and grabbing a quick bite as well. I ordered one Polla Asada (chicken) and one Nopal (cactus) taco. They were both quick bites, though filling enough to hit the spot. The tacos were loaded with the choice of contents chosen, sauces up, and had an avocado topping then off. The Nopal was something I had only tried once before at a different taco shop as a good friend stated how that was a favorite of theirs, so I gave it a shotb well done people, for someone who is not a veggie lover, I would order it again. I will update once I have their other items. read more

One of the best taco places I have ever tried. On a Sunday evening there is still a long line, had to wait around 30 minutes but it was well worth the wait. I have never seen a taco wrapped and presented this way, and it made it so easy to eat. Every taco was delicious and packed with flavor and meat. YES!!! This is everything I miss about tacos in SoCal! Grab chips & guac to eat while you wait (if you've gone to the right location, you'll be hungry from waiting in that looong line). Awesome salsa bar that is a complete wreck from all the traffic, but these employees are SO busy! Finally, your number will be called & you can enjoy your very authentic, SoCal tacos with a bit of Tijuana vibe. Our family favorite is the shrimp taco and you must get an order of hot, fresh out of the fryer churros. I love this location & we have visited other, less busy locations & it's not quite the same. There's just something about the hustle & bustle of this place that adds to the charm. read more

Wow! My 1st time to this location!!! Hands down the BOMB....on price, quality, freshness, service and taste. This place has great energy. Came in here late friday night before they closed and it was still pretty busy. The tortillas being hand made are great, they're just a little to thin so your taco tears. The al pastor was perfectly seasoned, crispy and flavorful. The salsa options are great. The asada was a bit bland but the guacamole and salsa helped. The employees are all really nice and quick with preparing your food. read more

Stoped by from a friend who lived in San Diego. Amazing first impression of the tacos down here. Line was long but loved relatively fast with seats opening up quickly from people coming and going We got the carne asada, al pastor, Baja and Camaron. My favorite was the carne asada and camaron. What a huge disappointment. After numerous positive recommendations, I finally made the trip down to SD County to try Taco Stand on a Sunday. We knew we would have to wait in line, and we were willing to because of the high expectations that were set for us for the food. Sure enough, it was a 20-30 min wait in line. The menu is simple enough to order from, which I appreciate. The prices aren't awful. Next to the drink fountain, there's a plethora of sauces to try out. However, the problem begins with the lack of seating. There is simply not enough room to sit, and folks are hovering around tables like vultures to find a seat. Outdoor seating lacks shade, and indoor seating is very loud. The music is fun and appreciated, but the entire experience is a sensory overload. All of this was exacerbated by the fact that the wait for food was an exorbitant one. We ordered at 12:37pm. We got our orders at 1:15pm. In fact, in our group of 3, there was a huge time disparity between the first order coming out and the other two even though we ordered in quick succession of each other. Now, if all of this frenzy was followed by good food as promised, I may not have written this review. However, the pollo asado burrito was not only mediocre but disappointing. It was barely filled, watery, and lacking flavor. My favorite part was the avocado, I have to admit. However, there was no rice or cheese. It was just watery beans, salsa, and chicken. I stopped by after doing a Jiu Jitsu Competition and I'm glad it was worth it. I treated myself with some carne asada fries and a Jamaica agua fresca and I must say it did not disappoint. Though the area has seating and it's busy on the weekends making the wait order take a while but it pays off with nice your order is ready. Glad the customers and the servers are chill so it's never a hassle. Definitely will be back whenever I'm in town. read more

The tacos were really good, but I am furious since we knew the order would take 30 minutes since we ordered online and we were like OK that's a long time for a taco but we're willing to wait since apparently the tortillas are fresh and that sounds pretty good we had been there before so we knew that they always took a little long and had a line to perfect the greasy goodness, but then they went and took FIFTY MINUTES to make our taco. We were outrage and starving. We posted this review Hangry. At the end of the day we just had to say gurl.... bye. Iconic chain restaurant in San Diego so wait line is just insane. I decided to try anyways to satisfy my curiosity. Sadly to report this shop is very mediocre. The al pastor is below average, the baja is decent. The best thing here is a super spicy chili/salsa that they have. There are other much better taco shops in the area. read more

The Taco Stand stands out. It just smells like a Mexico taco stand. Being of Mexican descent, I have traveled back to family in Mexico and been to my grandma's kitchen for the best. The fresh ingredients is the foundation along with fresh corn tacos. This is key to tasty tacos. I equate it to white rice staple for Japanese sushi. The guacamole is a scene stealer. They blend it Tijuana style. The nutty flavor blends magically in the carne. Judge by getting the carne asada taco con todo. Breathe it in first, then bite and let marinate in your mouth before swallowing. And yes, Encinitas can make good tacos. Enjoy! read more

We drove 6 hours for lunch at The Taco Stand. We were the first in line and ordered the carne asada fries, burrito, mushroom tacos. Shrimp taco and carne asada tacos. The fries were different than the last time (2 yrs ago), fries were smaller but still crispy, carne asada was flavorful, guacamole pretty good...the cheese seemed like it was from a can it's still better than what we have at home but not as good as they use to be. read more

Great go to in encinitas. Tip: order ahead for pickup! Food is always delicious. Reasonable prices. Service is quick but when busy, can take a bit-- be aware, the line can get very long and out the door. Seating inside and outside. Tacos are our go to. Cali burrito is also delicious. Some days all the planets seem to align and this was one of them. We passed the Taco Stand observing the unicorn ( no line) This made the choice easy and using previous reviews knew a delicious fish taco was in my future. This place will ruin other fish tacos since you will measure them by this standard. I also loved the chunky gauc. Personal preference since the wife likes guac smoother. We also tried the carne asada, seriously, so tender with a smoky char. The street corn is a meal in itself with delicious depth of flavor. Everything in the salsa bar was fresh and delicious. Went on a Sunday stroll and decided to get some tacos before the dinner rush. We really just arrived at the perfect time because right when we sat down there was a line. There is always a line at Taco Stand because the tacos are out of this WORLD! The tortillas are FRESH and the meat is marinated and JUICy. I recommend just getting the tacos, but my wife did enjoy the carne asada fries as well. I think the salsa bar is kinda the unsung hero at Taco Stand. So many great choices you can't go wrong. The roasted chipotle salsa is so good you could drink it, but the pick de gallo is refreshing! Service is consistently top notch and friendly. This place is perfect for any occasion. Saw a young couple on an awkward first date, a bunch of beach bums refueling after hitting the waves, tourists from a far off country, and of course LOCALS! read more

I don't believe there is, on there website they have numbers for the different locations, I believe this restaurant chain was a mom and pop place that was able to be franchised and expanded and owned by different people.

I was served my order to-go in less than 10 minutes and ended up unexpectedly using the other 10 minutes after taking my first bite--after that it was hard to stop. The burrito was the perfect size (not too large and not too small). My original breakfast burrito was wrapped in a fresh hand-made tortilla filled with fluffy eggs, the perfect amount of bacon, cheese, soft fresh potatoes, topped with the avocado salsa verde which went perfectly with everything. I even ended up sipping the salsa (it was that good) between bites of the burrito. I was also blown away by the clean and fully stocked salsa bar. So many options (including non-spicy ones for those with gastric limitations too!) and they even offered radishes, carrots, and pickled onions individually wrapped with care. Everything tasted fresh and home-made. After 7 years being away from San Diego, Los Tacos delivered exactly what I had been missing. Why not upgrade some of the aging furniture, design, infrastructure? oh well, just a name change. Why not take the chance to make changes since ownership was staying the same? Some of those items were stale and new r&d items could be added, but maybe too much change would drive customers away. To update my old Rico review I started coming here 20+ years ago and since that review is 15 years old I have changed my mind on the Justin burrito. Why was I eating 4 different types of carbs? Why even have lettuce? Also why no sour cream since were throwing everything in the kitchen sink in there (sans meat). The justin burrito is like seeing a fat vegetarian, sorry not sorry. I think I was just eating becuase I was bored and hungry and had a fast metabolism, always eating beyond satisfied. I'd much rather eat perfect bites to a satisfying amount rather than overindulge on chasing balance. I still haven't met Justin, but my fear is after all these decades of eating these massive burritos maybe he's no longer around. The decor is mostly the same, the menu is mostly the same, the staff, etc. etc. Prices have gone up and to me more than the times. 20% on the Justin and 30+% on breakfast burritos. How is the Calidilla (quesadilla wrapped CAB) $17? i'm fairly certain the quesadilla portion isn't equal to an equivalent price increase versus the standard $7 cheese quesadilla becuase I weighed a CAB and quesadilla and the Calidilla and 1+1 does not equal 2 and the price difference isn't proportional Something that I did notice is that my usual favorite California burrito has waned. I don't think anything specifically has changed, but probably my level of love for it. I found the fries to be a little less crispy, the meat a little greasier, tortilla a litte dryer, hot sauce a little milder. The nostalgia is hard to recreate and even harder to explain to others, but alot of things were amazing just becuase I was in my early 20's. I still feel like it's not a taco shop or an ertos. I call them Mexican fast food leaning more towards a restaurant now. $13 breakfast burritos is wild.

Cons: The burritos were much smaller, not as filled as other burritos from other Mexican restaurants. The carne asada was over cooked and dry There was only 2 pieces of fish in the fish burrito that were so over fried that it was hard and inedible. We had high hopes for this place, but our first impression fell flat. Not sure if it would be worth it to try and go again.

The rest of the line moved ok after they were done, but I probably waited about 40 minutes just to order. I ordered 3 of each kind, a dozen. Then I went to get water. They were out of ice. I sat in the window seating and waited. It took a bit, but it was a nice day so I didn't mind too much. A girl came out calling names but it was very difficult to hear her. I finally heard my name and she dropped off my oysters. I asked for more cocktail sauce and she left to get it. She brought it back but immediately left and never told me which oysters were which. I had to flag down another employee and he told me which oysters were which. In the past, I haven't liked some of the choices, but this time they had a whole different selection and I liked all of them! They were so good and fresh. I don't know why I waited so long to return. The fish tacos had a nice flavor, but there was barely any fish in them and one of my tacos had a bone that hurt my tooth. The potato taco was flavorless and definitely the worst of the tacos. My husband said his California burrito was 4/5 and my kids seemed to like their kids meals (though I ordered the quesadilla only for each of them and was given the more expensive plate with rice and beans, which they don't like, so I was charged for food I didn't order and didn't want...).
