One thing is that slender altar coordinator does not understand that after afternoon mass a few of us are there to pray. She has interrupted several people while they were praying to urge them to attend the Novena. "It will only take two minutes," she tells us, as if in admonition. This interruption was not polite, but in your face. The family masses are friendly, but weekdays, some people seem overly somber and caught up in reflection to the point of a weird head-trip they can't even offer a Christian hello, smile, or ask. So I invite this prayer for all visitors & regulars that whoever they are, rich or poor, whatever color, whatever employment, that they feel safe, cherished and welcome. Pray your guardian angels keep you safe from vudu. A Prayer for Gratitude and Appreciation Lord, I thank You for the opportunity to work with such amazing people. Please help me to express my gratitude and appreciation for my colleagues. May I encourage and uplift others with my words and actions? 1 Thessalonians 5:18 "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." Lord, thank You for the gift of my colleagues and the work I have. May I always have a heart of gratitude, and may my actions reflect Your love. Amen. Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for the people I work with. Please help me to appreciate them more and to express my gratitude regularly. May my heart be full of thankfulness for the opportunity to serve others through my work. Amen. Source: Prayerlit.com

They use to live in the ghettos of Boston where there were as many funerals there as there are wedding in DC. They opened their house to the neighborhood children who often didn't have enough to eat or needed a safe place. On a side note regarding the post on Chinese New years, all the Christians I know in China and Taiwan celebrate Chinese New Years because it's a time to connect with family and friends and to share and tell them how much you love them. It's not easy being Christian in China and some of them have given up professions, suffered persecution, and are barely scrapping by, but they celebrate Chinese New Years....maybe differently from others....like with prayer and church services along with visiting family, feeding and helping the poor and witnessing to them. Chinese Christians definitely celebrate and share Christ's love during the two week national celebration!

As a campus minister, it challenged me to think about how when we are in positions of leadership we can think we are "above" normal tasks such as ushering and welcoming people at the door. However, are there ways I can live out my faith and service in doing humble tasks as the pastor of this church modeled out? Thanks District church, for helping my faith to grow from that visit!

Not only one of the most gorgeous and underrated churches in town, close to Chinatown DC, but they also serve amazing soul food, which is literally the best soul food I've had in the greater DC area, served for dirt cheap prices with enormous "greater" portions that will feed three people per portion, from Wednesday to Friday only. So a wonderful hidden gem, and you absolutely have to check it out as I do every time I'm in town.

They had chicken ( baked or fried) Wednesday, meatloaf Thursday, fried fish Fridays. You get two sides that could be mashed potatoes, rice, greens, Mac and cheese, or vegetables. You get a cut of cornbread, a slice of white bread, a choice of dessert ( strawberry, vanilla, chocolate layered cake ; cookies; ice cream) that was extra. Then you get a drink like fruit punch. Cash was cheaper since it was a $10 minimum when you charged on your card. You would go through the line and get it for dine in or to go. Well... that all changed 2 years ago and they had to close because they became too popular. A good reason to close, but sadness came upon the land. Fast forward to the year 2019 and now they are open the second Tuesday of each month to serve the homeless and community for free. Yes, that's right. I found out by walking by to get lunch and since the answering machine was full, I could never get through to the office to ask. I walked in when I saw them open! They even still have the menu on the wall. Bless the Lord and these sweet souls, they fed me a nice plate of chicken ( baked or fried), greens, Mac and cheese, rice with gravy, a cube of cornbread, a slice of white bread, a dessert ( cake, cookies or ice cream), and slamming fruit punch spritzed! They cook with love and bless others with it. They also have a clothing closet for those in need. I plan to make a donation because of how they serve their local community. I hope others do too.
