I came here to sell a violin on consignment and found myself chatting with Cordi about all things music, she was a pleasure to interact with. Technically, this is a serious store. The instruments are great value, from starter models up to high end pro violins. No junk in this shop! Also a great place to shop for bows. Cordi wants people to have what they need. And if your gear just needs a tweak instead, she'll do that for you. I have an electric guitar from this shop and it is one of my main gigging instruments. The store is not known for guitars in general, but those in stock are all of good to excellent quality. There is no better or more honest proprietor that Cordi. Her students LOVE her. Cordi! Is the best violin teacher ever! She taught me violin at a very young age and helped me get accepted into the San Louis Obispo Orchestra. I no longer play the violin however what Cordi taught me has allowed me to help my daughter with her piano practice and will stick with me forever. What a wonderful place this is. A few days ago, I visited the String Connections to purchase a violin for my daughter, and Cordi, the owner, was so nice and helpful. She helped us with the selection of a used violin which turned out to be a very nice one according to our violin teacher. No pushy tactics or pressure whatsoever. Cordi was very friendly and professional. I was amazed to see a selection of so many instruments there. Before that I went to the largest music store in Torrance, and they only had several violins to chose from. I'm glad I found this place. Thanks for the great experience! read more

Ms. Cordi is wonderful violin teacher! My son has been taking violin lessons from her for almost two years and he has progressed very quickly with her. She is always patient and encouraging. She is also extremely flexible with her time and schedule. Her passion for music is evident in all she does. Her shop is wonderful with everything you will need for a string instrument. What we like: - consistent friendly services - knowledgeable owner (Cordi always have an answer for my questions and concerns regarding our instrument - I always learn something new just stopping by) - won't recommend services unless you really need it (many a time, we have wondered if we need string change, or bow rehair, Cordi would take a good look at the instruments, clean it, then tell us the problems FOR FREE, even if selling us a set of new strings or getting a bow rehair might made her more money!) - **great** instruments for the price (all the instruments she has, especially the student instruments are very playable. You will NOT get a "violin shaped object" here. We have been very happy with our instrument, strings and bow.) The only limitation with a small business is the shorter store hours: currently the store is only open Wednesday through Friday 1pm-6pm, and Saturday 1pm - I think 5pm. If you have an emergency in the other day, you can try to call on a Monday/Tuesday and see if Cordi happens to be in (she schedules some lessons on the "off" days). Otherwise, a truly great place to shop for string instruments and accessories! read more

I found The String Connection's very nice website through a Google search for "violas in Palos Verdes." Telephoning, I reached the owner, Cordi, to ask if she knew how/where I could have my viola evaluated. She explained that she would be happy to look at it and give me an idea of it's condition and value, and that if I wished a formal appraisal she could do that for a fee. She was pleasant and professional and I arranged to come to the store that very afternoon. It was a joy to walk through her door into a beautiful room filled with wonderful instruments, violins, guitars, ukuleles, beautifully displayed, and to be greeted warmly by Cordi. She took time to get to know me, to share a little about herself, and to look over my viola, including playing it wonderfully. She provided me a thorough evaluation and patiently answered my questions. Ultimately, and with complete confidence, I agreed to a consignment arrangement with her and left the The String Connection a satisfied and happy fellow. I might add that while I was there I observed her interaction with a few people who stopped by the store for information or just to look around. She was friendly, patient, attentive, and professional with all, even offering a sticker to a little girl who just wanted to touch the strings of ukuleles. read more

I love this place. It is very small but all about instruments, music, and matching you to the instrument of your desires. If the owner doesn't have it, it seems that she can get it. She has clearly been doing this for years and is passionate about finding you what you want. Tho I went in to check on violin lessons, I found myself drooling over the guitars. While there, a 10 yr old? boy and his dad came in. Clearly, there was a connection between this child and his violin teacher. They spoke as old friends with music as their common language. Teacher, dad, child...they were all beaming at each other. Pretty cool to see a boy who was actually looking forward to a violin lesson! I didn't end up taking the lessons but I would love to buy my next guitar from this shop. Truly, it is a little treasure. Worth the drive!!! read more

I highly recommend this music store if you are selecting a violin or guitar! Cordi, the owner is extremely knowledgeable in helping us select a violin for our daughter. The selection is Amazing! She played over 10 violins for us (below and within our price range) and spent over an hour with us detailing the nuances and pros and cons of each instrument. She truly wants each customer to get the right instrument for their needs and doesn't make one feel pressured in any way. A Juliard grad and very gifted musician, she is very gracious. The selection was much better than we expected even with our modest price point. Don't let the zip code and posh location scare you away. Very affordable, quality instruments.
