You can't get more "local" than this place and can't beat the food here! The roast turkey sandwich is outstanding and they roast their own bird! Today I had the brisket breakfast burrito and the flavors were amazing! Brisket, tater tots, scrambled eggs, avocado and a sauce that is out of this world. To understand this rating it is important to know that this was a big deal for us to even make it to the restaurant. My father has a lot medically going on and unfortunately we are not in a great place with no option of improvement. A pastrami sandwich was a craving which is a big deal and even physically getting out of the house was a big deal. So we were excited. Once getting there we were able to use the handicap spot right in front which was convenient and there was even a handicap lift to accommodate for the stair entrance however it was a bit crowded inside, not much room for him to easily get to a table, and it was a bit cold, so we decided on sitting outside in the sun. The only sun was towards the back of the building so we moved some tables there (there was a high top already in the back, but he physically can't sit up that high, so we figured it would be fine to move the low tables.) As we finished moving the tables a delivery came and they needed to get back there so we went to move them out of the way for the delivery guy. No problem. We moved them there so we can move them out of the way and put them back in its original spot when we're done with lunch. As we were about to move them for the delivery an employee or owner, not sure what his role was at the restaurant, came out and very rudely told my dad who was sitting in a chair to "get out and move". I explained what was going on and told him there was probably a nicer way to say that and he essentially compared my dad to a homeless person and said if we wanted to sit in the sun to go sit at the beach. At that point Dad was over it. We got him back in the car and went somewhere else. I'm giving this review a 1 without trying the food. With over 10 years in the hospitality industry I cannot believe how we were spoken too. It was extremely rude. Hopefully this is a lesson to that gentleman to respect others because you never know what someone else is going through. If you are in the restaurant industry, you should understand that food brings people together. Be excited for people to try your food. Don't be rude to your customers, you never know what their story is and you never know how hard they worked to get to you. read more

Hubby and I shared a deluxe chorizo burrito and a hot chai tea. Let's just say I didn't want to share after I took a bite. This place is such a hidden gem. Been twice when visiting Ventura from LA. No frills order at the counter establishment with a couple picnic tables out front and seating in the small indoors as well. We eat outside because the restaurant is on a very quiet street and it's laidback and nice to relax outside. Their breakfast burritos and tacos (pork, brisket and lobster) are all great. Great spot to grab lunch. Good food and convenient location if you find yourself in strand. The pastrami sandwich and the strand burger were top notch. You can tell they take pride in the meat quality and have some good twists to make their food stand out. Service can be a bit slow with one person running register/cooking/running orders, but I totally understand the challenge of staffing. More and more people are going back to work on the base so hopefully this gives the business steady lunch traffic. Recommend they provide some good lunch specials and speed up service to gain and maintain the lunch crowd from the base. Heard about this place sonic had to give it a go. Took a long time, over 15min, to get 1 Reuben sandwich no sides. I understand the possibility of employee shortage due to Covid so it is what it is. As for the sandwich, it was very disappointing. Flavor was good but hardly any meat whatsoever and it seemed soggy and smashed. Definitely NOT worth the price compared to a place like PB&Jay's. This is the best place in the strand. Here is a picture of the aftermath on the chilaquiles. They were way too good to take a picture beforehand. Chef Tom walked around the corner and asked the restaurant "Who ordered the Chilaquiles??" I responded "I did". He gave me a big smile and said "these are about the be the best chilaquiles you've ever had" and he was right. We live on The Strand and were excited to try this place. We looked on the website menu to choose our sandwiches. Unfortunately the sandwiches we ordered looked nothing like the picture. They were extremely thin and came in a very small box. The kind you get for leftovers at a restaurant. I ordered the chicken salad sandwiches. I laughed when my husband handed me the box. I knew we were in trouble because I always had the experience of Texas toast being thick. Plus the picture on the website showed this big yummy sandwiches. Well the sandwich was more like a tea sandwich. It was small and barely had any chicken salad on it. It was a smear. My husband tried the 3 tips. The sandwich was more of a slider. Not worth it. This was pretty disappointing not only were the sandwiches tasteless they were dry and the bread seemed rather stale. They are way overpriced for what you get and your options are very limited. I had the Hillbilly and it was terrible and had very little chicken and even less avocado spread or whatever it was.
