This is a very ancient place - perhaps thousands of years old. It is a raised earthwork surrounded by standing stones. It dates to pre-Christian times. It can be found if one drives out of Castletownbere as if towards Allihies but if one turns right one will find this place up a little hill. One has to park on the road and walk through a field. The stone circle is easily visible from the road - it is perhaps 100m from the road.
There are no signs giving additional information there. The landscape around is bleak and it is a great place for contemplation.
It must have required an awful lot of effort to build this place. read more
