Double Play w/ fried egg: Jalapeño stuffed steamed beef patty, cheddar, pastrami, onions, brioche bun | $11

3.5 STARS The Money Shot. No, I'm not talking about shooting man juices between the eyes like Clint Eastwood. I'm talking about DAT climatic food porn shot when sh*t oozes. Like when you cut into a soft boiled egg and the yolk oozes out like lava. It's all about DAT golden drip. Makes you wanna lick your lips doesn't it? Born in Connecticut and touted as a healthier burger, is the Steamed Cheeseburger. The crowning of copious amounts of ooooeeey goooey, melted cheese cascading down the side of the patty makes it food porn, money shot worthy. After seeing on the food porn pics on The Steamin' Burger's yelp page, I knew I had to have a taste of it. I was ecstatic to find The Steamin' Burger's truck at the SoMa StrEat Food Park over the 4th of July weekend. On the menu were 5 Steamed Cheeseburgers: *The Steamin' Burger: 1/3 lb jalapeno stuffed angus patty, sharp cheddar, onion, mustard, brioche bun ($8) *The Double Play: The Steamin' Burger + Pastrami ($10) *The Homerun King: The Steamin' Burger + Bacon + Avocado ($10) *The Switch Hitter: The Steamin' Burger w/ a turkey patty instead of a beef patty ($9) *The World Series Champ: The Steamin' Burger + Pastrami + Bacon + Avocado + Fried Egg ($13) Also on the menu are Fries ($4), Cheese Fries ($5), Chili Cheese Fries ($6), and Pastrami Cheese Fries ($6). CC's accepted. Make sure to check-in on yelp for 20%. I forgot to. =/ The owner (?) was really nice when I placing my order for The Double Play and it took a quick 5 minutes to receive my order. As I was walking back to our table inside the barn, all eyes were on my money shot. When I placed it on the table, Tater Tot could smell burger love in the air: http://bit.ly/1HOfu0K. He thought if he looked all cute that he could get some: http://bit.ly/1KTiwBK. Sorry buddy, you're on the raw diet. No cooked burger foh you! I gave Mr. NSS first dibs. Then it was my turn to sink my teeth into the money shot... The verdict? It looked better than it tasted. Sure, steaming the patty removed all the fat but it also removed all the flavor and shrunk the patty so the bread-to-patty ratio was off. The steamed [well done] patty was tender but wasn't juicy (tasted more like a meatloaf). It was bland even with the cheese and the pastrami. The cooked jalapenos didn't really add much heat. As I took a second bite, the bottom bun fell apart from all the water in the patty so we had to eat the burger upside down. Really heavy on the mustard so it was overwhelming. We also added a fried egg which was perfectly oozy. Make sure to get a lot of napkins because this is one messy burger. The Steamin' Burger was more of a novelty item for me. It was good to try once but not something I would order again (3.5 stars rounded up because of the friendly and fast service). IMO a burger is not a burger without that charred goodness with a bloody center. RAWR!

Thanking the owner bigbad Rog for doing an awesome catering event!

This is one of the best kept secrets of the Bay Area!! To those looking for Halal burgers these are grass fed that taste so juicy! The bun is amazing as well. Real cheese that is unbelievable. Tastes so fresh that you will be asking yourself to eat more. Great fries, great service! Can't get any better!!

The true definition of a 3-star is not technically a bad thing, it's "A-OK". It's like I don't regret eating there and I might eat there again, but it's not OMG rave worthy. They serve up an unconventional (for this part of the country) style of steamed burger and some dressed up fries. Truth be told I'd probably prefer Super Duper, but it's nice to have a change of pace from time to time. The Steamin' Burger: Well done, but moist. Loads of melty cheddar cheese and enough jalapeños to give it a kick without being overbearing. Liked the raw onion slices to give some zing. Slathered with mustard but no ketchup by default. Without a strongly charred patty, it tasted a little meatloaf-esqe. I don't think I was digging the whole thick well-done thing after all. Pastrami Cheese Fries: Spicy fries with a light batter. Topped with melted cheddar cheese that congeals pretty quickly. You basically have to pull bits of cheese from the massive clump to go with each fry bite. There are small pieces of chopped pastrami that seem to fall off each fry before you can get it to your mouth.

I ordered black beans veggie burger at this place and it was probably the best veggie burger I have till date in SF. The bun was very soft with a crispy patty, avacado, mustard sauce and cheese. The burger was also good enough in size. Wish they offered fries with the burger but you can order them separately for I think 4$. The only issue I had was the amount of time I spent to get the burger which was more than 15 min but I think it was worth the wait. I will definitely try this place again but maybe not on a recurring basis.

I are here a few days ago, they were at Spark Social on Tuesday! Funny thing is, is that when I tried to check in it said I was too far away from where they were. I was standing right in front of the food truck! Kinda funny but oh well, it seems Yelp is still used to them being at another location. Anywho, I came after the lunch rush, closer to 115pm. There was one person in front of me and a few people waiting for their meals. I ordered the home run king with a side of cheese fries. Both were delicious. Burger was juicy and the cheese melted really well with the French fries. What I really enjoyed about this food truck was the efficiency. Again, I came during the tail end of lunch, but my meal came out in about five minutes. The man I ordered from even said it was take about five to seven minutes anyways. I'm used to other food trucks at Sparks taking up to 15 minutes with making my meal with no one really waiting. I would come back here. It was great. Quality American food!

The Steamin’ Burger ($8) jalapeño Stuffed Steamed Angus Ground Beef Patty, sharp cheddar cheese on brioche bun

At first I thought the Steamin' Burger was something along the lines of steamed pork dumplings in slider form. (Weird thought, I know, but fits SF perfectly with its gourmet burger and fusion trends) Because it does not taste unusually healthy and/or unusual as most health food does, it wasn't until I read the food truck's description did I realize that it really is a steamed burger. The cooking technique boasts no added oil, and most grease is actually drained out. Though notably less greasy, it's still rather filling and food-coma-inducing with all the carby and fatty goodness from the brioche, thick beef patty, and the cheese. (But I guess this is all relatively more guilt-free in a steamed burger) Steamin' Burger ingeniously combines all the good things in the burger world. Who could say no to *jalapeno stuffed*. Spice-phobes, fear note because it's not too spicy but adds a signature kick when directly blended in to the patty. I was quite satisfied with the original STEAMIN' BURGER, featuring a specialty jalapeno stuffed patty and the usual burger condiments. It came together so well, with classic flavors from quality ingredients in precisely balanced proportions. In my opinion the basic burger already tasted gourmet with the jalapeno stuffedness and photogenic brioche bun; if you want to splurge, you can one-up to add bacon, avo, fried egg, and pastrami. Prices seem expensive for a food truck, $8 basic burger upwards to the fanciest at $13 is reasonable when you remember it's a food truck in SF. The PASTRAMI CHEESE FRIES is a popular item and a must-try. Yes, it consists of fries getting slightly soggy from bearing the weight of a pile of toppings as expected for all gimicky fries, but it's *curly fries* with cheese and *pastrami*!! It's a spin on carne asada fries with the same indulgence, only less greasy with pastrami. While the pastrami is not gourmet like Wise Son's legendary reuben, the smoky pastrami blends nicely with the spicy fries, and the dryness of the cured meat is offset by the melty cheese. $7 for fries seems pricey, but the decent portion size and generous amount of pastrami makes this a good lunch in itself (though this sounds perfect for late night). Steamin' Burger exceeded my expectations. Not only did steamed burgers turn out to taste better than real burgers; the clever incorporation of classics i.e. jalapeno and pastrami make for an original burgers/fries menu. (Would this be a fusion of American food with American food then?!)

The food was good but the wait was very long. The fries were fresh and I have no complaints about the service except for the long way. Would I come again? If I had the time, yes.

    Cheese Fries with Steamed Cheddar

I remember watching on Man V. Food when Adam Richman visited this burger joint in Connecticut called Ted's Steamed Burgers. The burgers are cooked in a steam oven in drip pans and their cheese gets cooked in the same manner. The burgers looked so moist and juicy on TV that it made me want to fly over to Connecticut to try them! So when I discovered The Steamin' Burger which makes their burgers using the same method as Ted's, it was a complete no-brainer for me to try them. Plus it saves me from buying a plane ticket to Connecticut for now at least. When I came by to visit them at Off The Grid Millbrae, I wanted to try their basic Steamin' Burger since I wanted to be able to taste the beef. They have other options too like one burger topped with pastrami and egg and even a turkey burger option as well. And to go with the burger, I ordered some Cheese Fries as well. The Steamin' Burger -- http://bit.ly/1DEd6W8 Jalapeno Stuffed Beef Patty with Steamed Cheddar, Pickles, Mustard, and Onions. When you get your burger and you see that melted gooey cheddar cheese, it's just calling to you to dive right in. OMFGYUM!! So goooood! The interesting part is how this is actually a healthier burger because when it's steamed, all the fat and oils have dripped off and the steam keeps it moist and juicy. The jalapenos in the burger patty give it a little kick, but it's not going to burn your mouth which is good because you'll want to be able to taste the burger anyways. This is a really great burger and probably ranks up with my favorites of all time! Cheese Fries with Steamed Cheddar -- http://bit.ly/1xKV2ce They give a very good amount of fries. But unfortunately, even with the gooey steamed cheddar, the Cheese Fries didn't really work for me. I'll probably try their Chili Fries one of these days because it does sound good. But for now, I'll stick with just having their burgers. I came back a few weeks later and I was challenged by the owner to try their fries again, so I got to try their Pastrami Fries Pastrami Fries -- http://bit.ly/1HK3leE They didn't disappoint this time! The fries are crispier and seasoned and the Pastrami and Steamed Cheddar were and added bonus! Paired with a Steamin' Burger and you have yourself and epic combo! If you haven't had a Steamed Burger before and can't afford a plane ticket all the way to Ted's in Connecticut , Steamin' Burger is definitely the next best thing, if not better. If they're in your area, don't hesitate to try them! I can't wait to get another Steamin' Burger soon!

Amazing burgers. Had the Home run king and the Corn dog. We were there for corn dog day and I was intrigued by the line on this burger truck. Not a lot of confusing options, they keep it simple and tasty. I got the Home Run King with an egg and without the bacon. Amazing. The avocado with the egg and juicy perfectly cooked beef patty made we want to eat another one of these then and there. Will have it again for sure. As we were still hungry we had a corn dog, also because it was Corn Dog day, and it was phenomenal as well.

Very good tasty and great service!!!! Fresh ingredients I highly recommend it I had the homerun king minus the onions The burger tasted perfect. I have to admit I was skeptical at first but I was assured that it would be cooked thoroughly and it was.steaming burger is now definitely on my burger rotation every other Thursday

Okay let's be honest now... The idea of eating "steamed" burgers kind of freaked me out a little bit. Who even does that? And I never quite jumped on the whole "Food Trucks are Cool" bandwagon. I thought they were always a bit overrated and overpriced. So that's why after I tried The Steamin' Burger, I just HAD to write a review. Before this I had no prior experience with any kind of steamed burgers. But after urgings from friends and family I decided just to try it. And this food truck was a great place to start! I was pleasantly surprised! It was definitely the JUICIEST burger I have EVER eaten. I could tell that the meat was very fresh and good. Put simply: this is the way food should be. And the fries were yummy as well. I would go back. The prices were reasonable and the service was fairly quick (considering how SLOW some food trucks are). I think that if anyone hasn't tried a Steamed Burger before (like me) they should try it here.

This was juicy, but it was missing tomatoes and more lettuce and onions. Just felt heavy and greasy, because it was double meat and double cheese. It needed some freshness from extra vegetables to make it cleaner tasting. I tasted the pickles in between the patties, but it still didn't cut the greasiness. The buns were a bit too soft and they didn't seem toasted, so while holding it, it became smooshed. Potato salad was ok, though I'd probably prefer fries with ketchup. It's half-cut roaster potatoes with a bland dressing, because the potatoes are big pieces. If they were cut smaller, you'll taste the dressing more than just potatoes. 3.5/5 SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS PIZZA ~ fennel sausages, Jimmy Nardello pepper cream, pearl peppers, mozzarella, & red sauce. This was ok. Crust was crispy, but the pizza bread was more dense than we would have liked. The Jimmy Nardello pepper cream sauce on top was heavy and it was too saucy for us. Mozzarella had a good cheese pull and was good. But like the burger, it felt heavy. Needed more acidity to balance and lighten the load. 3.5/5 I guess on Wednesday nights, people don't mind waiting an hour for the burgers. If it had sliced tomatoes and more lettuce, it would have been much better. But for $15, they should have the essentials to make a good burger. As for the pizza, maybe we chose the wrong one for us. We left disappointed. In my opinion, it's overhyped for 1hr+ wait.

I recommend the Big Louie (two patties), as the ratio of meat to bun to toppings is ideal. Loved the mayo and sauce on the burger as well. Friendly staff (: Would defo come back for the burgers!

I've never known about Louie's Original, and was surprised by the amazing down to earth welcoming vibe - it definitely feels like it could be a neighborhood staple. The service was friendly and fast, and our buzzer went of not too long after we placed out order. The Big Louie is definitely big - the buns were nice and fluffy, with heavy juicy burgers and the white cheddar went perfectly with the secret sauce. But surprisingly the stand out was the onion rings - the waffle fries were great too, but I'm not sure what they did to the onion rings they're umami, almost dashi or furikake-esque, and with a perfect crispy batter that doesn't get soggy or fall all off the onion, and the onion inside was perfect, like a soft simmered onion thats sweet and still has just enough firmness without being sharp. I'm glad I found Louie's original, and I'll definitely be back for those onion rings and maybe a little louie next time :)

Then there are smash burgers which has been the craze for a few years already. Then there are burgers known for their sauce like the animal style sauce at In-N-Out . Burgers in SF can get cheesy . Everybody has any reason to say it's a better burger whether it's for the purple onions, pickles , or buns. There is a place which serves the Cali Burger. On a West Portal stroll there is a burger place which sells the Cali Burger. The Cali Burger means fresher ingredients usually locally sourced in California. Calibur is the place to get an organic grass fed burger. I got the double cheese burger with Calibur sauce. It was tasty and it had great flavor along with a soft bun. The fresh grass fed cheese burger pairs well to eat with cheese fries in SF. The fries were crispy and saucy and got a bit messy. Calibur also sells chili cheese dogs along with different flavors of shake including Neapolitan. Overall a good place to fresh grass fed cheese burger on a bun. You can get organic beef that's grass "fed"with Calibur sauce "spread" and a soft fresh bun "bread"although they don't have onion rings or purple onions you can get raw with yellow onions or the onions that are "red" The organic ingredients locally grown under the California "sun" get a grass fed cheeseburger medium or well "done" take a shot with Calibur and I ain't talking about a weapon like a "gun" but get something loaded with beef and cheese on a "bun"

Not sure if the cashier was not paying attention or if it was too big of an order, but a few of our burgers were messed up and missing things that we requested like grilled onions instead of raw and pickles. The burger was manageable. Although the sauces came on the side, the fries were cooked well. As we were eating, a line started to form. But instead of acknowledging them, a guy came out from the back with his hoodie on and focused on packing to-go orders. When he was done, we greeted them at the cashier. He did not look happy at all. It was a good try and it was my fiancee's fave spot once upon a time, but i don't understand what's so good about this place.

We decided to go to lunch at Gott's Roadside. It is my "go-to" spot when I am near the Chase Center! I love their big menus, the "big wordings", colorful deco, and there are lots of seatings in the inside/outside. I always order my usual, the Cali chicken without red onions and Jack cheese. I find it more healthier than the gourmet burgers that they have on the menu. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. They take their time to explain their menu and special. Their all gender bathrooms are always clean and the communal handwashing station are outside of the bathrooms. If you're ever in the Mission Bay Area and thinking of a gourmet burgers and fries or want a quick bite before going to a Warriors game/concert at the Chase Center, don't forget to stop by Gott's Roadside! Pro tip: Order online on their website or on major those food delivery apps for pick up to skip the crazy long lines during game days.
