After having arrived in Port Erin via the IOM Steam Locomotive, exploring the town and hiking to Milner's Tower (and breaking a toe along the way), I limped to a stop at The Station (conveniently located, and named, for the train station across the street) for lunch before riding the steam train back to Douglas.
Dining at the Station feels a lot like having a meal in your friend's dining room, that has been converted into a private pub. Homestyle appointments, warm lighting, and the sleepy foot traffic of Station Road outside the window compound the coziness of this humble tavern in a quaint, seaside town. The staff were friendly, warm and welcoming to this humble off-season tourist. My meal was a hearty meat pie with a warm, flaky crust, steamed vegetables (carrots, peas and broccoli), and golden fries (chips). Solid pub faire, perfect for refreshing me for the second half of my journey.
My memories of Port Erin, and the rest of the Isle of Man, are heavily laden with welcome nostalgia, and I hope that someday I will once again explore the seaside cliffs, breathe in the fresh ocean air, and stop for a pint and a pie or burger in perfect peace and serentiy (and without paying for it with a busted foot). read more
